My H is having a ball with the pommel horse guy - he’s a “specialist” but he’s so good that the USA Team gave him a spot for Paris & they won bronze !!
He also goes to Penn State !
Affectionately known as "pommel horse guy," viral Olympic sensation Stephen Nedoroscik will compete once more for the U.S.' last chance at a men's gymnastics medal at the 2024
My friend and former paramour who was an olympic alternate who also went to penn state. I think they won national champ while he was on the team. I've sat through quite a bit of video of his and his brothers events. He was at least 10 years out from some of those lol.
Anyone watching US vs Japan soccer? I haven't been following the team closely this year but fingers crossed.
Yes. Too slow- we needed to play with a bit more urgency- like we did the last 5 minutes of regulation time!
The commentators are talking about how there are generally only two days between games (until the final, whomever gets there). That must be exhausting!
But they were also saying about lack of urgency/spark.
Why didn't Shelley-Ann Fraser-Prycer run in the semi-final? I didn't see where this was explained. They said the open lane was for her and that she did not start.

I heard she had a hamstring issue/injury in warm ups. I also heard there were issues with some track athletes getting into the stadium for warm ups beforehand too and some are suggesting that is why.

I am not watching the Olympics, but the commentary over the French pole vaulter who knocked over the bar with his enormous penis is giving me LIFE. 🤣🤣🤣
I like jokes and am loving the snippets I've seen of Colin's reporting. I feel bad for his injuries but they make the whole situation funnier. I hope he recovers fully.

Can someone explain to me about vault. Commentators keep referring to "she chose..." and I don't know what that means. I had assumed it was the same for everyone. Is there a choice? Is there strategy i it? I'd love for commentators to say more than "she chose x"

Not really sure but probably referred to the athlete picking a less technically hard vault that is more risky to a less technically hard vault that can be stuck and performed perfectly.

It's not the same. Different skills are assigned different difficulty points. So some people pick higher difficulty even if they know they might get a lower execution score, or vice versa. It isn't all on a 10 scale anymore.
Speaking of gymnastics, Laurie Hernandez is a delight as a commentator.

There is a choice and a strategy. The scores are degree of difficulty + execution - deductions.
Totally making up numbers here, let's say someone needs a 14 for a medal.
They can get it by:
Harder vault: 6 (degree of difficulty) + 8 (execution)
Or
Easier vault: 5 (degree of difficulty) + 9 (execution).
If they are consistently in the above 9 range on the easier vault they may do that because it's safer. If they are shooting for a higher medal they may need to do the harder vault to get a potentially higher score. That's why Simone's degree of difficulty gives her such a buffer, before she starts she has a higher score and more wiggle room for mistakes.

This I already understood. High risk, high reward type stuff.
The way they were talking it sounded like there are different vault thingies (I'm very technical) they could choose between. The more than likely explanation is that when they said "she chose x vault" they meant the maneuver and not the literal apparatus. The commentary just sounded very equipment specific, but I'm probably the last to understand.
The way peacock is adding commercials to some of the replays is making them unwatchable. I tried to rewatch the women's MTB and the commercials interrupt the commentary mid sentence and there are sections with commercials every couple minutes. It's so annoying.

Oh yeah, they meant the maneuvers they do into/off the apparatus. They call it like the "double pike yurchenko" or the "the amanar" or the "insane Flippy Twisties"

@@@@@@@
Maybe a little off-topic, but Biles announced retirement and pregnancy?
It's funny, there was a little moment where I noticed the very slightest lower belly - not in a bad way! She's so tiny that I just kind of said hmmmm to my H.
So happy for her! What an amazing career, and an amazing woman!
ETA Sorry. This wasn't appropriate and I didn't realize it was shitty gossip, but I should have. I apologize.

I was like 10 minutes into trying to watch my first reply when I upgraded to premium. We were trying to fast forward and find something, and every time we stopped, it gave us 120 seconds on commercials. I have the $20/year version of peacock, and was able to upgrade for one month for $6. And I set I reminder on my phone to downgrade in a month. Lol
