Maybe a little off-topic, but Biles announced retirement and pregnancy?
It's funny, there was a little moment where I noticed the very slightest lower belly - not in a bad way! She's so tiny that I just kind of said hmmmm to my H.
So happy for her! What an amazing career, and an amazing woman!
I don’t think this is true. I saw it on fb but no legit news site. I also went to Simone Biles instagram and she hadn’t posted anything.
ETA: link of article with Biles stating she has not ruled out 2028 Olympics
I think there will probably be some American athletes who may have otherwise retired but decide to try for the next one because it will be on U.S. soil and how amazing to be able to compete in the Olympics in your own country. I know Katie Ledecky said after seeing how the French swimmers were cheered on at home, she wants that as well. And hasn't Michael Phelps said something that may indicate he is also contemplating trying a comeback for the LA Olympics?
The way peacock is adding commercials to some of the replays is making them unwatchable. I tried to rewatch the women's MTB and the commercials interrupt the commentary mid sentence and there are sections with commercials every couple minutes. It's so annoying.
yes! It wasn't this bad earlier in the week though. We've watched lots of replays. Volleyball today was awful

There are a lot of fake news sites that post on FB. I never use those as valid sources. Until Biles announces she is pregnant and retiring herself, I’m assuming it’s fake news.
Can someone explain to me about vault. Commentators keep referring to "she chose..." and I don't know what that means. I had assumed it was the same for everyone. Is there a choice? Is there strategy i it? I'd love for commentators to say more than "she chose x"
It's not the same. Different skills are assigned different difficulty points. So some people pick higher difficulty even if they know they might get a lower execution score, or vice versa. It isn't all on a 10 scale anymore.
Speaking of gymnastics, Laurie Hernandez is a delight as a commentator.
weirdly I would understand double yurenchko (cannot spit it off course). It insane flippy twisty. It’s probably just a result of me watching Australian TV where they said submerging like chose John’s vault and it was confusing.
I do understand the different names and that there’sa difficulty score and execution score. I’m not that bad at the flippy spinny!
I'm so pleased for the Ukrainian athletes - a few medals have come their way in Athletics.
The took gold in women’s saber, I expected them to medal at least there. 😁
y’all will be happy to know the last fencing event just ended. I’m done talking about it this cycle 🤣
But I do want to end on this note, for those of you that do an Olympic sport (obviously not at that level). Do you see little things and have “they are just like us” moments? Like the shoes, the equipment, the way they tuck something in? I had my first of those when I saw someone tuck their body cord into their back pocket, followed shortly thereafter by the logo on a mask (which was an American company known for beginner’s level gear). And it’s been a running joke amount my friends ever since. 🤣
Now that swimming and gymnastics are about over, what are the big things to watch this final week? Is there more diving?
Lots more track and field, plus individual diving. And breaking if you wanna watch that lol.
I’m looking forward to the rest of track and field (400 m hurdles for men and women are going to be INSANE), sport climbing, the marathons, and the tournament results for sports like soccer, volleyball, etc.

rubytue, yes. I played high level hockey in the US and UK as a goalie (up until 2020 after 40 years of playing). I see a lot of what the goalies do in the Olympics that I've done and that's kinda cool.

Trying to get my oldest psyched for volleyball tryouts by watching beach and court volleyball, not sure it's working, lol.
My youngest might like the sync swimming and rhythmic gymnastics. She keeps asking to watch golf and I keep saying "baby, that's boring."

Thats one of my favorite things about watching triathlon!
If you are a volleyball fan, make sure to watch the women’s indoor Brazil vs Poland match. The second set was the most exciting volleyball set I have ever seen!!
