I’m excited to watch breaking later this week. And I always enjoy watching the field events like pole vault and hammer throw. I was watching men’s and women’s hammer earlier and I have no idea how they can spin around so fast like that. I feel like I’d end up hitting myself in the face with it.
Also the Paralympic Games starts Aug 29 and I’m excited to watch that also.
OMG the women's road race was incredible! The US gold medalist didn't even try out for this event & it sounds like a teammate gave up her own spot to let her compete & she beat the others by more than a minute!
I'm pissed. I don't know if I agree with the officials (lol). But even if I did, that gave her 0 advantage.
My 13 year old swimmer says she absolutely should have been DQed. It is a super hard flip turn and most swimmers don't do it (at non-Olympic/similar levels) because so many swimmers get DQed from doing it.
If you are a volleyball fan, make sure to watch the women’s indoor Brazil vs Poland match. The second set was the most exciting volleyball set I have ever seen!!
I saw it and told all my vball friends to watch it, LOL. So much good volleyball happening!
Lots more track and field, plus individual diving. And breaking if you wanna watch that lol.
I’m looking forward to the rest of track and field (400 m hurdles for men and women are going to be INSANE), sport climbing, the marathons, and the tournament results for sports like soccer, volleyball, etc.
Trying to get my oldest psyched for volleyball tryouts by watching beach and court volleyball, not sure it's working, lol.
My youngest might like the sync swimming and rhythmic gymnastics. She keeps asking to watch golf and I keep saying "baby, that's boring."
While I am obviously biased towards volleyball, I will just say that my understanding is that there's a lot of scholarship money out there for woman golfers!

Apparently she only took up cycling as a hobby starting in 2017. There is hope for all of us to be Olympians too! Last year I figured out how to swim with my face in the water, see you guys in LA 2028 baby.

This is true!
Also, let ‘em watch everything they want. I am absolutely thrilled that my boys are loving men’s and women’s sports equally. I’m not a huge fan of BMX for example but why not let them figure out what they like and that is outside of their current bubble

Please make one of the trending “sad to announce that I wasn’t chosen for the Olympic team” with your subsequent fail video

Same. It’s heartbreaking to watch, especially as her little sister is leaving with several medals and this was her only event. But swimming rules are so, so specific. There’s very little wiggle room and it’s not like other sports where you can sometimes get away with it and sometimes you get caught. If the meet is properly staffed, you’re going to get caught.
Totally heartbreaking for her, though. That’s a risky move, and it didn’t pay off this time.
NBC is TRASH for, literally, never putting up a visual with the actual times. Not once. Yeah yeah, thousandths. WHAT WAS THE TIME FFS.
Just display the relevant facts.
This was pissing me off so much yesterday. Whyyyyyyy aren't they just automatically displaying the times?!
I can’t speak to peacock as I’ve given up trying to buy a pass. There’s only so much invalid token errors I can take. But I do know that at least in gymnastics, the Australian commentary said everyone’s monitors in the stadium had gone black. They had no way of knowing what we were seeing. I’m assuming the decisions made in what to display or replay are not made by them, but because of that I’m open to the possibility they didn’t have the data to display.
It’s mind blowing to think of how much effort it takes to show so many events from so many angles in real time and then add in replays and things like slow no replay which also display stationary captures like in a spinny twisty move.
When judges needed to determine who won yesterday's Olympic 100-meter race, they drew on fancy new technology — a camera from Omega that shoots 40,000 frames per second, Axios' Ina Fried reports.
Why it matters: Omega, the official Olympics timekeeper for decades, is constantly looking for new ways to help measure athletes' performance. How it works: For the Paris games, Omega added new tech in a range of sports, including the faster photo finish camera used for track and other races. The new camera takes four times as many pictures per second.
Watching the Women’s balance beam final is making me sick to my stomach. Everyone is falling. It’s hard to see women who have hit routine after routine to fall like this. They’re so amazing and are doing such difficult tricks, and they look so heartbroken.
Are the medals specific to each event? I always assumed there would be an inscription on the medal itself, or maybe on the ribbon, indicating what event it was earned in. Apparently there can be ties for medals, which has me doubting they would have a bunch of very specific spares on hand...

I just feel like if you need that much resolution to separate places, it should be a tie. It really seems like it came down to outdated rules (chest crossing the finish line was the easiest way to discern differences before photo finish technology) + body differences (Jamaican running runner had more of a concave chest).

I saw somewhere that the bottom of the medals are inscribed with the sport/event.
There was also a photo that went viral of a French swimmer in his Speedo with an enormous bulge. French men are about to have a moment internationally.
Can we chat floor now? So happy for Chiles but heartbroken for the Romanian.
That was rough.
I’m aggravated they didn’t show the medal ceremony. When Simone and Jordan bowed to show their respect to Rebecca, the stunned look on Rebecca’s face, her joy when they placed the medal on her neck…it was just one of the the moments and they don’t show it in primetime? NBC dropped the ball.
