I survived volunteering at the varsity football game concession stand on Thursday night. I was a restocker, so constantly running to bring drinks (bottled, not fountain) to set near the register and refill the hot food in the warmers behind the registers. I definitely got my steps in!
My mom is finally starting to let go of some things from her grandparents' house (which she inherited when her dad died (he owned the house after his parents died)), so she let me pick out a few old books. She said I could also have an old Pyrex coffee percolator, but I will get it later, when I have the appropriate packaging to bring it home safely.
Other than that, we are just trying to spend family time, as DH is gone next weekend for his cousin's wedding, and then I am leaving Sunday evening to go on a work trip (back on the 13th). DH and I should cross paths in the airport on Sunday, as long as he makes his connecting flight and it is on time.
Great weekend so far. Swimming and a bbq at a friend’s yesterday, today we got the kid’s closet torn apart and put back together while she was at a fair all day with a friend’s family, no actual plans tomorrow.

H did not get covid when the kids and I had it three weeks ago. He has slept all day and now is running a fever. He’s testing negative tonight, but I suspect it will swap to positive tomorrow. My question which is unclear via Google. Can the kids and I get it again? I have a second round interview on Wednesday and I’m concerned.
Well, my deep cleaning efforts backfired on me somewhat. I rearranged so the robot could mop all of the hardwood. I knew my little bedroom TV tipped while moving but I thought it bumped into something soft. Nope. Huge crack and dead zone when I turned it on last night. Now I have to brave Best Buy on a holiday to get a replacement today.
I also just had a strange encounter with a neighbor. He was coming home from a coffee run while I was walking my dogs. He commented that I was walking late but he knew I was up early because he heard me talking when he walked his dogs by my house earlier. I had been asleep until minutes before this exchange. My windows were closed. My tvs were off. I have no idea what he could have heard.

I’ve heard of people getting Covid a month after, so it’s possible but I would say unlikely.
I have to give a talk to our new Student Residential Advisors in about an hour. This will be my first in-person large group presentation in a long time. I'm freaking out a little bit but I'm sure it will go fine. Breathe.
Is it normal for a dog to hide large quantities of food? This is the second time I've discovered a cache of kibble in our den. The first time was between the couch cushions. Yesterday, it was a huge amount underneath our tv cabinet. I have no idea how she managed to get it on under there, since it's against the wall (maybe a 3" gap) and flush with the floor.
She does love taking a mouth full of food and spitting it out elsewhere in the house and but I've never seen her try to hide it like this.

Not to freak you out - but the only times I’ve seen this happen are when mice got the food and stashed it. Are you sure you don’t have rodents? Otherwise, no clue! My dogs eat so fast there’s none to hide.

I managed to lose 8 pounds on our 2 week vacation. We were walking a ton and I could only eat at specified meal times. Portion sizes were also smaller. I also couldn't down my usual 20 oz bottles of Diet Dr. Pepper and was forced to drink little cans of Coke Zero if I wanted any kind of soda substitute.
Since I've come home, I'm trying to stick with the same eating routine, eat at meal times only, smaller portions, no snacking, no running to Wawa for bottles of Diet DP. So far it's been almost a week and I've done well with that. I'm also trying to walk more since we live in a walkable town but the mental will to go walk instead of just drive has been much harder.
I've decided to attend my 20 year grad school reunion this November and am going to use that as motivation to keep up these better habits.

It reminded me of when we opened a floor up and found a stash of acorns in it.
We had a mouse issue a few years back and, honestly, this could have been related. Maybe I can stop giving my dog the stink eye (yes, I know she has no idea why I'm giving her the stink eye, but I'm sure she still deserves it for something else).
Track and field people - what does DS need to have? I’m thinking decent shows and comfy shorts, then comfy pants. Anything else? I mean, water is included too. Lol
My son was required to have pants and a long sleeved shirt for practices and meets to keep his muscles warm. We got him zip away pants to make it easier to remove them over his spikes. Track is a “spring” sport here (Colorado) which means you could have anything from snow to 70 degree meets.

I was out walking in my neighborhood with my sister who has dog. An old(er) man stopped us and said he hasn’t seen us for a while and when did we get a new dog. I have no idea who this man was. I think he just got confused - which is what I think happened with you. Of course, we played along like we’ve known him for years 😆
I have a bunch of random stuff listed on marketplace and it's so annoying. I have been on an organizing kick lately so it's all stuff I do not care about and would donate/thow away, but it's also stuff like glass and bookshelves that would be hard to donate without breaking so I am trying to rehome first (and obviously the landfill is a last resort). But I don't really want all these messages, and I'm listing everything for like $5 so it's not like there is much reward.
I did decide I'll put whatever I earn into a "give to people on the street" fund so that's good at least. I handed a $20 bill to a couple looking for a meal and a bed for the night last weekend, and that seemed like a good use of these random small payments so I figure I may as well continue. Unfortunately being asked for help on the street is not uncommon so I like to be able to actually respond to requests. I rarely have cash otherwise!
No other plans today. I am waiting for scones to bake and then I'll probably go outside and read in my hammock. I may go to a garden store later and buy a couple of fall plants to go in some empty spots in my front yard, but I may also just be lazy and not leave the house. Definitely will do a longer dog walk later though!

This is a neighbor I speak to multiple times a week. I wouldnt have paid any mind if it wasn't someone I know reasonably well.
I was supposed to take my kid to the Renaissance Faire today (last day it's in town.) He woke up with a scratchy throat. + Covid. Not surprising since 2 others in my house had it a week ago, but I was hoping he avoided it. I'm the last one - and anticipate getting it after everyone is 100% better. Covid sucks.
is he doing XC? Shoes are obviously the most important - he should go to a running store to get properly fitted for running shoes. DS1 does XC, indoor track and outdoor track so we replace every 3 months or so. He also uses spikes for meets but ask the coach what they think for that. Good all weather running gear - here they practice every day regardless of weather. So he trains in everything from pouring rain to below zero and ice, to heatwaves. The most important thing I own for him is a shoe/glove dryer
XC is a spring sport, so just track and field now. So, track running.
Thanks, I’ll add under garments and fouler weather gear.
Our middle school has track as a fall sport because they use the high school tracks for meets, and HS track is in the spring. In 6th grade, DS didn’t have anything special. He wore regular running shoes. If they recommended cleats I didn’t hear about it but that year was kind of unorganized. The school provided a tank top uniform, which he’d often put over whatever shirt he was wearing. He was playing a different sport last year. This year he needs track cleats. He tried some on at a sporting good store and I bought some similar size/ type from Mercari for $50 less. With kids sports equipment like that you can find a lot of new / barely used stuff there. I’ve dealt with buying almost every type of sports cleat there is but track cleats confused me. I asked him if he needed or couldn’t have spikes in them… then I realized the spikes for most track cleats are removable and come with a little tool.
A water bottle is important and high protein snacks are good too. It’s still hot in fall where we live so no warm up gear. Track meets are long and it took us a bit to figure out the schedule, like to only stay for DS’ events. Find out from the coaches what the expectation is. Does every athlete need to stay the whole time, be there X amount of time before their event, etc? Ours are on Saturdays and parents are responsible for transportation so it can be a challenge with siblings in other sports. Some schools might have meets on a weekday after school and bus kids to other schools without many parent spectators.

This was my first thought too. When we had mice, the main issue was and clue was that we had a dog that would graze and leave food in her bowl all day, and then we'd find random pieces in random places. It was definitely mice.
I’m 3 for 3 landing on my ass this weekend. Again with the rolly chairs. This was a stool in the garage that has a hard, slick plastic seat. And the wheels on the concrete… the chair moved faster than me and there was not enough friction to keep me on it. I’m laughing so I don’t cry! It was the least traumatic of the 3 gravity checks. But apparently I’m a mess.
I looked up the new adhd meds I just started, and dizziness is a side effect. I don’t recall feeling dizzy. But I’m going to blame that. For now. I have a med checkup already scheduled.
I'm getting so worried about Freckles. She is more lethargic than usual, doesn't want to go on walks at all anymore and just threw up her breakfast. I made a vet appointment for tomorrow but for some reason I'm feeling like this is the end. :-(

He woke up completely fine. No fever, not feeling bad, and zero symptoms. He’s still going to test again tonight to be safe for work tomorrow. Just bizarre. We are wondering if it was dehydration from being outside for a concert on Friday

Luckily, school provides snacks prior to practice!
I know we have practice this Thursday. Past that, I don’t even know yet how many days a week or which day’s practice even are. I think 3 days? And we just got the baseball schedule. Practice Wednesdays and games Sundays. Hope it doesn’t interfere.

East coasters go back to school, so I wanted to thank everyone again for looking at the wish list thread, reaching out to your local teachers to help (time supplies whatever), and supporting educators and I hope everyone has a great school year!

After a rocky and emotional first two weeks of school, we made the decision to enroll our younger son in the same online private school we enrolled our older son in. I’m pretty excited. Our older son is thriving after just one week - so much more confidence and he is making strides with executive functioning. It’s a secular, project-based school that is so neat and I wish there was something like this when I was young. Students attend from all over the world and are placed in cohorts that allow for engagement with one another.
