TW: I'm still raging a bit. Last night, while standing in the queue for the Whisky Show, I had to turn around and tell off a bunch of 50+ year old men. They were tell and laughing at rape jokes (limericks). They knew I was there in front of them (as they kept bumping into me) and it didn't stop them until I told them how disgusting it was and to shut up. The fact that a group of men felt comfortable loudly saying such things makes me so angry. Men need to tell other men to stop saying such things - it shouldn't be a woman needing to do so. It made me rage for a while. And then I drank some whisky.

Ugh sorry you had to listen to that!! Why aren’t men learning to be better yet? What’s it going to take?!
I went out last night for a bday celebration. It was for our former dog walker Em who is now separated so we’ve been trying to get together. She had like 8 other women with her and I had been chatting with this one woman Tina and we went to the bathroom with Em. I was standing outside the bathroom waiting for them and heard Tina exclaim to Em “wait, that’s LB’s mom?!” Turns out she’s DD’s school nurse and with her injury, DD has been a very frequent visitor and the nurse Tina who has been emailing me all week is her. 😂 We did meet in person once when I dropped off her epipen but we didn’t recognize each other dressed up lol. I was like omg let me buy you a drink for dealing with her all week!
I had such a long week! And now I’ve been up since 3am. I told my dog park buddy that I was bailing this morning because I wanted sleep. I’m conceding defeat and I’m just going at sunrise. Lol.
This weekend, we need to box up the rest of the basement and demo the rest of the floor. I’m looking forward to getting everything situated. We had a flood mid July, and it’s still in shambles. We got a ridiculous quote for repairs, so DH decided we’d just do much of the work, and hire out the stuff he/we don’t like. Fine with me!
I’m sitting outside my knitting class eating a doughnut. I hope the class is good! I haven’t had the best luck lately.
I really think people open yarn stores so they can force people to interact with them. The owners are almost always so odd and then some of the classes end up being mostly people who already know each other/the owner paying to hang out and not super interested in learning anything.
The weather is amazingly beautiful and I’m ready for DS’s baseball game this afternoon, dinner a patio dinner with girlfriends before seeing John Legend. And tomorrow is Hamilton with my SIL’s, nieces and DD!
Until all of that, I’m going down a Paris Hilton rabbit hole and already this morning I’ve watched her documentary and two episodes of her “new” reality show. I’ve also reserved House of Hilton via ILL.
I bought 2 Apple gift cards. Both cards when opened had at least two of the numbers/letters to activate rubbed away. Apple makes it way too difficult to get the codes and activate them.
After chatting, a phone call, an email, I am now still trying to figure out how to activate the codes.
At a HS football game last night, a student was crying in the bathroom because she started her period unexpectedly. I didn't have anything on me, but I went to the concession stand and between all the moms, someone had an extra pad that I was able to take to her.
It made me angry that there weren't pad/tampon machines in the stadium. I'd like to explore asking the HS to install something (and offer to donate a machine, money, etc for that purpose if they say no.) Our state mandates that period essentials be made free to student, but not how (and therefore I wonder if people just didn't think of the stadium?) Grant funding exists for this too according to our state, but not sure how easy the funds are to access.
So, who do you think I would ask? Athletic Director? Principal/VP? School nurse? Where would you start? Any advice?
shortstax Installing and maintaining a dispensary for menstrual pads sounds like a facility management responsibility. It wouldn’t specifically land on the athletic director’s budget or approved work for his/her staff. My starting point would be questions for who maintains the bathroom - physical space (floors, doors, plumbing, toilet paper, hand dryer), ask who makes and approves their budget (it may be different than the academic building space), and approves work orders.
It might be worth your time to ask questions more globally about the dispensaries available to students, where, future plans, costs, use/effectiveness, etc. The athletic field may already be part of a plan or part of the scarcity that needs to be addressed.
I am FINALLY getting a new couch delivered today! MH and I are so indecisive/picky and the space is so particular that it took forever to find something that would work AND that we liked. However, I'll be panic mode until it is actually IN my house, since when the old couch was hauled away they had to use a saw to cut it in pieces to get it out. Holy moly!

tacokick, I thought of you this morning! Lucy and I are right now taking a break at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. We saw the Mary Cassatt at Work exhibition. There was a painting id never seen before of a woman working a tapestry, as well as women knitting, crocheting and embroidering. I guess the textile arts make me think of you 💕💕

I know I just posted about taking the high road, but I'm being petty today. DS is wearing a Gamecock shirt (my alma mater) to go to his dad (a Clemson fan).

Be careful. This could be a scam. I purchased 2 Visa giftcards from the store that looked perfectly packaged but had CVV numbers scratched off of them. Scammers get to the cards before they are packaged. The cards had already been activated and scammers were waiting for funds to be loaded onto them. Then the scammers randomly check the numbers they collected and use ones they find with funds on them. Luckily I looked at my cards right away and noticed after I loaded money onto them. I had to have the cards replaced with new ones from the company.

Just drove an hour and a half for DS’s hockey game. Traffic on the other side was awful so I am hoping it will break up before we’re heading home. MH’s reflux is out of control and he’s throwing up and queasy. He ended up staying home today because he got sick twice last night /this morning and didn’t want to risk it. I told DS we can go out for dinner when we get closer to home.

I don’t think so. It’s the way they’re packaged. Both were damaged in the same spot.
I got it all straight and they’re loaded in our accounts now.
We watched the Hannah Einbinder (from Hacks) comedy special on HBO last night, and while I adore her on Hacks, her standup routine was BAD. Like, during the whole hour I think we only laughed 3-4 times. Maybe it's because I'm old, but everything just felt super awkward and cringe rather than funny, and even the live audience wasn't laughing as much as you usually hear during comedy specials.
I think we're going to try out a new bike trail today in a little bit. It should only be about 17-18 miles round trip, but I haven't ridden my outside bike since July 2023, and I haven't ridden my spin bike since this past July, so fingers crossed for all my assorted chronic health issues.
I really like NYT Spelling Bee but I strongly prefer puzzles with fewer answers to genius.
I don't have time to come up with 60 words, Spelling Bee! Give me one where there are only 18 possible words and let me shine.
I have strong puzzle feelings.
My goal is usually 20 words, but ever since I hit genius for the first time, I’ve been chasing that high.
Just wait until you get a Queen Bee. The first time I did it organically, by myself. I think it took 2 years to achieve again and I've never managed to get there without using the hints grid.
