I got "LastNamed" again at work (someone calling me my last name instead of my first via email) and so I responded to their email and was like "oh, btw, my first name is FirstName". They then answered my email and called me by LastName again. I give up. LOL
I'm WFH today. Dogs are going nuts because neighbors are having their roof replaced. I have a roofer coming out to assess for hail damage today; I'm hoping our insurance will cover a new roof, but we'll see.

This is TMI so apologies. I had to schedule my breast MRI the day I got my period. So on Wed I had a ton of spotting so I called and scheduled. But then like today it has all just stopped. So what the heck?

lavenderblue, do you have a last name that could be a first name, such as Madison, Logan, or Morgan? If not, that is really odd!
We have a new team member starting next week to cover a maternity leave (maternity leaves in Poland are long - long enough you can't just make it through or ask to pause or delay projects). While I'm excited that we were able to hire someone so quickly, it is so much time and work to submit all the tickets and onboard and train someone. I hope the new team member is able to catch on to things quickly, as we are entering a busy time.
I signed up for a class that’s supposed to meet twice a month Sept-Nov with two more sections scheduled for the winter and spring.
Right before it started they switched one of the days. Now they’ve canceled the (rescheduled) class today at the last minute.
They said we would make up the class but didn’t seem pressed to make it up during this fall section. That doesn’t sit right with me. The idea is to take three sections to get a certificate but you don’t have to and you sign up for and pay for each separately.
I emailed her back and said I’d be happy to add a Wednesday in October (there are 5) and I’d like to complete all of the classes promised for the fall during that time.
She said it would nice if that worked for everyone but that was it. Having the class rescheduled for today didn’t work for me but I accepted it and now it was canceled after I moved everything around to attend.
The class meets rarely and there is a tight schedule so missing one means we absolutely can’t complete the goal of the class for that section.
I feel like we should either get a prorated refund or a replacement class needs to be scheduled before the section ends not shoe horned into one of the other sections that are optional later on.
Should I mention that now or wait and see if they offer to schedule another class soon? There have been quite a few “bumps” already in the class and I feel like if they drag things on, we will be running into Halloween, Thanksgiving and the winter holidays and never actually schedule a make up.

midwestmama , kind of. There is a somewhat common girls name that sounds the same as my last name but is spelled differently. So for example, it would be like calling the singer Jason Isbell, Isabelle instead of Jason, where Jason should be the default because that is clearly a first name, but the person chooses Isbell anyway even though it isn't "Isabelle" spelled correctly. It wouldn't bother me so much if this wasn't a person that I deal with somewhat regularly, I'll give people I don't know well a pass.

We’re just waiting for the hurricane to decide our schedule for the rest of the week. Between possible flooding, downed trees trapping us in the neighborhood, I’m assuming we’re not gonna be doing a whole lot for the rest of the week.
The kids’ soccer coach seems to have not ever been in a hurricane before bc he’s still planning for a game in Sarasota, which is closer to the ocean than we are and they’re expecting pretty significant rainfall and storm surge. But keep planning dude, lol.
I’m just happy I was able to fill up my gas tank this morning, I think we’re far enough away that panic hasnt struck yet, I know closer to Tampa there are empty gas stations galore.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

I've been trying to be more put together lately and decided to splurge on a T3 flat iron. I had a 20% coupon code, so I finally convinced myself it was worth it, even at $150. Today I went to buy it and it was on final sale and 50% off!! I am irrationally happy about this.
lavenderblue, my maiden name was a common woman's first name, and the first three letters of my married name are also a common woman's first name. I am so used to people calling me by my last name that it barely registers anymore LOL. If it was someone I worked with regularly, though, it would bug me. It's bizarre that they responded to the correction with the wrong name!
I also had someone call me Becky for almost a year. Nothing about either my first or last name is even remotely close to Becky. I honestly thought they were referring to someone else, and then by the time I figured out they were talking about me, it had gone on for a really really long time. So I just rolled with it and responded to Becky. #awkward
At the other end of my street is an intersection that is the bus stop for everyone on our street. There is a house at the intersection, on the correct side of the road so that the kids don't have to cross the street when the bus comes.
Over a decade ago, when my oldest was in kindergarten, that house gave permission for the kids to wait for the bus in their driveway. This was largely because their own grandchildren were at the bus stop at the time.
Many years later, the grandkids have moved away, but everyone still stands in their driveway for elementary school, middle school, and high school busses. All told, there are people in their driveway from 6:45 to 8:30 am, and again 2:45- 4 pm. People bring their dogs. The elementary kids run and play tag all around their driveway. Parents will hang out and talk *in their driveway* for half an hour or more after the elementary bus leaves. A group of middle school kids has started hanging out in and around their driveway for an hour between their drop off and the elementary bus.
Am I a big grinch, or would this annoy you if you lived there? It would bug the crap out of me. But it would be kind of hard to stop it at this point without it being a "thing". The official stop is just the crossroad, it's not like the bus company is giving this home's address as the bus stop.
Every time I drive past and see people hanging out in their driveway, I thank the lord that it's not my house.

This sounds like such a huge liability to me. What if someone's kid gets hurt in the driveway while playing games waiting for the bus?
Post by midwestmama on Sept 25, 2024 10:27:44 GMT -5
jinkies, I would probably be a grinch about it too, because those are long stretches of time to have people in your driveway. But I would also be concerned about any liability if there was an accident on my property.

So there’s this guy living in the townhouse next to mine that I walk by quite a bit when I’m walking the dogs in the morning. He seems to walk to work most days. He’s never given more than a cursory nod, clearly he’s a keeps to himself type. He also has “Choose Life” state issued license plates on his car.
But several times when he does drive his car out of the garage, the door doesn’t close when he leaves. And every time this happens, this one piece suit (??) is hanging right here. It’s a murder suit isn’t it?

I cringe reading this, because we sort of do this. Our house is at the bus stop intersection, but we are on the wrong side of the street so we wait on the opposite side.
The family who lives on the correct side gave the kids permission to play tag/etc. in their side yard last spring. They had swings in a tree that they said the kids could use. They are empty nesters, and said they liked having the kids around. But over the summer they took the swings down, and IDK if it was to duck the kids using them this fall? or just chance? We also bring our dog every day (the older chill one). I promise we always pick up after her!
At least it is only the elementary bus, and generally only in the AM. Most of the kids at our stop go to after care instead of bus home, and the middle and high school kids walk out to the main road for their buses.
I have a packed afternoon before I rush home to get DS to soccer practice, then get dinner on the table, do laundry, and get us prepped/packed to leave early tomorrow morning for SIL's wedding. DH was supposed to catch an earlier flight home to actually help out with all of this, but the approaching hurricane killed that plan. I swear I am sleeping the first half of the drive tomorrow.
Our Hispanic Heritage Month lunch is about to start at work, so there's today's good news. YUM.

For lunch today I brought the ham and cheese sandwich that sat in DS' lunchbag all day yesterday that he 'didn't have time' to eat. There was an ice pack in there with it and the sandwich was what I'd describe as 'somewhat cool' when I unpacked it at the end of the day and popped it back into the fridge.
If you don't hear from me again you can assume that my eating this was a grave mistake.
Susie , to be completely transparent, we absolutely contributed to this when my kids were younger. They are now middle school/high school and so are only at the stop very briefly. But when they were in elementary, they were playing tag and we were talking to other parents after the bus too.
That was mostly overlapping with their own grandkids being there though. I'm seeing it through different eyes now, and realizing that it would start to bug me after this many years. But I have no idea what they could really do to stop it at this point.

I thought today was Thursday for most of the morning. I don't know why, since H is in the office every Wednesday, so the fact he's not home should have been enough to alert me that it is in fact Wednesday. I'm actually relieved that it is only Wednesday. I have a lot to do (both work and personal) and we leave for vacation on Sunday so I'll take all the extra time I can to get shit done. Typically the week before vacation drags, so I'm thankful for a busy week to make it pass quickly.

OMG, this is the Chandler/Toby situation IRL.
when I first started my job 3 years ago, my admin called me the wrong name for so long that I told my friends I was now Toby from now on, lol.

We’re going on a much anticipated vacation next week (Disney) and DS2’s preschool just sent a message that they have had several COVID cases at the school. I wasn’t able to get a booster for him so am considering keeping him home the next 2 days. WWYD?
starburst604, It looks so funny like that, but to me it looks more like a maintenance uniform. H wears one regularly and he keeps it in our garage as well because it gets all sorts of mechanical fluids on it that smell terrible, lol.

If you have the ability to keep him home, I absolutely would.

I signed Mardi, an 18 month old puppy, up for a 6 week agility class. We went Saturday and it wasn't good. It was very disorganized and so incredibly basic that Mardi was bored and kept trying to get into trouble, I know the trouble part is on me, but it was hard to keep her focused on a short leash when she had nothing to do. I took her to a beginner class a few months ago and they had her doing all kinds of obstacles, this one only had her walking on a flat board that laid on the ground, circling a traffic cone, and going through a 2' tunnel. At the end of class the instructor told me it would get better, but not for several weeks. I'm trying to decide if we quit and give up the money we paid ($120), or do I finish it and hope it gets better. FWIW it's at 7:30 am on Saturdays, so quitting is appealing in that way lol.
That would bug the shit out of me, jinkies . But I have no idea how you’d spread the word that it’s not cool anymore lol
The only way to stop it is to put up a massive fence with a gate across the driveway. Or sell the house and make it someone else's problem.
If it was my house and it bothered me, I would start running an errand at the time the bus stop was most busy. I'd hope that me pulling my car out and making everyone move and stay off the driveway until I was through would annoy the parents enough to get them to move where they all stand.
starburst604, my H hangs his fishing waders in the garage or basement like that to dry. I can’t tell you how many times they have scared the bajeesus out of me.
