I currently have 16 library books checked out. This is a problem.
Why is this a problem? As a former library employee, this warms my heart.
Oh just because I don't have enough time to read them all haha. Stupid full time job. But two of them are books I requested the library purchase so that's always fun!

My maiden name is Germain - and everyone always asked me if I was German.
TGIF! I found the fleece blanket I'd been looking for and I put it on my side of the bed last night since I'd been sleeping cold for about a week. OMG, best night's sleep I've had in WEEKS. I didn't realize how chilly I was! I have a feeling it's my weight loss and the GLP-1 doing that, but it felt so good! The cat was happy too, haha.
I'm getting my eyes examined today for a new glasses prescription since my strabismus surgery a little over a month ago. I was told by the specialist to get NO prism and that my muscle tracking would only improve, so hopefully she's right! I know I need progressives as I had them in my previous rx. The glasses I've been wearing since the surgery don't have them and it's driving me nuts. I also see about 20/40, which isn't awful, but it's just bad enough that it's irritating trying to read fine print or the captions on the TV, or road signs. So happy this is finally happening! DH is also finally filling his eye rx with the optician so yay for everyone being able to see!
My maiden name is German with an "ei" too. Yes to people always pronouncing it like a long E when it is really a long I. My biggest problem though was it seriously messed me up as a kid when it came to the "i before e" rule. Like, my own name didn't follow the rule, how was I supposed to get it right for other words.
I miss my maiden name sometimes. It is very uncommon even in Germany, so if you ever meet someone with that name they are somehow related to me.
Totally understand with more unique last names. It is pretty to cool to have a name where you know someone else with the same last name is a relation of some sort. I have done some genealogy research here and there, and found that the maiden name of one of my 5x great grandmas was anglicized after the family immigrated to New Amsterdam (NYC). They came from the Netherlands, and they anglicized their name to Longstreet. Apparently, people with that last name/ancestors with that last name can trace their ancestry to this one family (according to a short biography I found). And yes, that means I am distantly related to the Civil War general James Longstreet; he and one of my ancestors shared a grandfather, or something like that. Sad that he chose the wrong side to fight for. (Coincidentally, my one of my 3x great grandpas who fought in the Civil War (and we (my mom's family) still own the land he received as payment for his service) for the North/USA was married to the ancestor related to Longstreet.)
There’s a park and historic farm now owned and operated by our county park system that’s Longstreet Farm!
Does anyone have a automatic ball thrower for their dog and/or can recommend one? Our terrier poodle mix is a fetch machine and can literally keep going until one or both of us collapses. I think she'd love it but they are kind of $$ for a dog toy when, as my husband points out, she already has designated "fetching hours" first thing in the morning and in the evening after dinner.
ETA: I also want a doggie DNA kit for her because our retriever doesn't retrive this aggressively and something else has to be in there, so more $$.
I have this ball thrower for my border collie. She likes it. I like that you can adjust the arc of the throws. We use it indoors.
I got my kidney stone broken up yesterday and other than being a bit tender on the side they shocked, I feel fine. I'm not at all excited to start passing the smaller stones, though. Hoping that happens sooner rather than later!
We have to go pick ds up from the friend that kept him yesterday since we didn't think we'd be done with my procedure in time to pick him up.
I did change my last name when I got married, but I bumped maiden to middle and dropped the middle.
Then I gave DS my maiden last name as his middle, so he and I 'match'. I kind of like that. DD is named after her two grandmothers, so I don't regret that per se, but I kind of wish I'd given her my maiden name as a middle name too.
I did this, too. My old middle name was Anne like 50% of the girls born in the 80s, so I had no attachment to it, ha. I considered giving both kids my maiden as their middle, but gave names honoring people from my side of the family instead.
I took exH's name when we got married at 23 and when we got divorced I kept it. It's a nightmare to spell and pronounce. It had been my last name for my whole "real adult" life plus it matched my kids so it seemed easier to keep it at that point. Then I got remarried and decided to hyphenate and tack on my new H's last name. His last name is the same as my middle name, just spelled differently. I have given myself a completely ridiculous name at this point that no one could possibly say or understand without me spelling it out completely. DH told me not to bother and thought I was crazy. But having the hyphenated name feels special to me. I'm the one who blends our blended family since the girls have one half of the last name, and DH and my stepson have the other half of the last name and I have both.
speaking of maiden names, I saw a really cool tattoo idea yesterday.
Have your maiden name tattooed in your father's handwriting.
Obviously not everyone has a great relationship with their father and not all father's are/were great but I thought it was a unique idea.
Wow, really? Why not have it tattooed in your own handwriting?
The symbolism of having your fathers signature inked on your body is so messed up to me.
Do you not have a good relationship with your father? Mine has passed, so maybe that colors my opinion, but I already got a memorial tattoo which is a reworking of one of his tattoos, and now that I've gone back to my Maiden name (his name) post divorce, I've been seriously considering getting my last name in his handwriting done as well. Maybe I'm missing something? What is the symbolism that I am not picking up on?
Does anyone have a good mocktail recipe for a crowd?
We're hosting an event next weekend and I'm flying out of town the next morning so I'm going to drive a car load of us home at the end of the night and skip alcohol. I'd like something super fun to sip on, plus there are a few other guests who don't drink.

Like I said, it might not be for everyone but I have a great relationship with my father and he gave me my name. I think it is a beautiful way to honor him.

My maiden name is super Italian and at the time is was a plus that DH's name was pretty basic. Now, while I like having a family name, I kind of miss my maiden name.
I've been getting pushed a lot on SM of folks wondering why a woman would keep/should be "allowed" to keep her exH's name or why a woman would choose her father's name over her new husbands. When do our names just get to be ours?
It never occurred to me to take my DH’s surname. His name is very Persian and I am not, so it would have felt weird to me to have a name that’s not of my own ethnicity. Thankfully neither of our cultures are married name-assumers, so it was never an issue.
My Dad is still around, but if he were not it would absolutely bring a smile to my face to look down and see a tattoo of his handwriting.

Wow indeed! I thought this was a beautiful idea. I was very, very close with my dad. It would be a way for me to honor him, and feel like he’s close to me.
ETA: for the spreadsheet, I just added my last name as a 2nd middle name b/c I didn’t want to get rid of it, it’s my fucking name!

Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

OMG, our dog is the same but we need the exercise so we just throw for her. She's a Jack Russell mix. Absolutely obsessed with fetching, just like a lab. You can tell her to bring it to you closer and she will. She's not really big on dog friends (she has just a few) but girlfriend loves to fetch all day long. My DH just retired so she gets a daily walk too. We laugh that her ball fetching is now better since she's getting her fitness.
And don't bother with the doggie DNA unless you want to waste $130. We did Embark and I think it's wrong. Our vet agrees. She's almost all Jack Russell we think and her DNA was like 12 things...My DH is like we just spent $130 to find out our mutt is a mutt

Yes hang tight. I'll post it, I love it! My daughter and I drink it every year and I think it tastes better than a cocktail
