We voted absentee in our state of legal residence (not where we’re currently stationed), and got notice that our ballots have been received!
Lots of early voting going on in our very blue neighborhood where we currently live, and as of a few days ago our precinct had one of the highest rates of early voting in our state!
I’ll vote on Election Day. The last (and only) time that I voted early was in 2016. I’m too superstitious to ever do it again.
I will strongly encourage you to vote early so it is done. For my first election in Canada, I wanted to vote the day of and then my entire family came down with covid so we couldn’t leave the house. Thankfully it was a low stakes local election where most candidates were running uncontested, but in a year like this we need every vote secured.
ETA: assuming it is an option in your state, I realize it isn’t available everywhere

Also old school here and like to vote in person. I like to walk to my polling place and then get a drink at the coffee shop nearby after, it's my Election Day routine!
I opted for a mail-in ballot ever since it was offered to me post-COVID. I have the ballot and my plan is to walk it over to the ballot box in our downtown to get my steps in. My schedule has been insanity and I haven't had a chance to fill it out yet and have time to walk it over. But I'm on a deadline as we are heading out of town next Friday so I have to get it done ASAP.
Fun fact: I live in Oregon and have never voted in person! Our state is vote by mail. I love it. I filled out my ballot at home with my husband and kids, and dropped it off at the library the next day. So easy. Then I can go online and verify that it’s been received.

I'm surprised at election guides being behind a paywall. What about league of women voters?
It can be a PITA to vote from overseas (my state is awesome about this), but I was encouraged by friends reporting drop boxes outside of embassies and consulates.
I can believe decause disenfranchisement but kinda not in 2024 that there are states without early voting. Many times I wouldn't have been able to vote in person day of. 12+ hour shifts and snow travel and long commutes don't make it easy. Another job I could travel a quick 10 minutes or be assigned 90+ miles away with not enough notice to request absentee.
Love that so many of you are taking kids. I never went with parents. And, while my school was a polling place, they just roped off the sole lecture hall.

I picked yes, but really I need an option for "posted my ballot last week and am obsessively checking the status to make sure it arrives in time," which feels more accurate.
Voted today in person (took one hour). For those that don't know about red states (texas), I had 32 votes to cast and 15 were uncontested races (only one R candidate running so I abstained). Those were judges. Ugh.
I early voted yesterday in Maryland in the first batch of people in the first moments it was an option. Then I left immediately after to go to Ohio to make a medical care team meeting for my dad. He is terminally ill and we’re done with chemo, so I was not/am not entirely sure I will return to Maryland before the election. I really wanted to get voting done.
@@@ My daughters (13 and 11) wanted to come with me. We were maybe 15th in line at 7:00 am and got out by 7:15 (with maybe by then another 35 people behind us). We selected an old school ballot. I had them take turns filling in the various bubbles so I actually didn’t even do any myself. (I did preview everything in advance so knew what I was doing.) One filled the bubble for who I hope is our first female president; the other bubbled in our choice for the reproductive freedom amendment (yes please). It was certainly a PITA for my husband (who already voted by mail) to handle our simultaneous Dunkin run (the app glitched and I had absolutely no extra time to deal with it), and the following messed up school drops, etc., after, but it was totally worth it I think for my daughters to have core memories of voting as women for women, with their mom.
Done last night! They were out of stickers, but I took that as a good sign so many people were voting
@took both my girls and explained the process, talked about "teams" and why I just voted for 1 team, how our awful legislature did away with straight ticket voting to make it harder. We had some really good conversations about how the teams are different & what each team wants (schools, guns, environment). I sill have trauma from voting with them in 2016 & being so excited thinking we'd have our first female POTUS (
I really like waiting until the day of and feeling all the emotions in line but I'm taking my mom to early voting tomorrow so I will just vote then.
I normally do this also and take the kids along for the experience. I voted by mail this time. I’m in a red area and I just don’t even want any part of it.

Girl, same. It felt so remarkable. And here we are. Xoxo.
I'm planning to vote in person on election day since DD will be volunteering as a page and I want an excuse to see her there. DH has his absentee ballot sitting at home, I need to bug him to find out if he'll be home in time to mail it in or drop it off.
I realized last week that we hadn’t received our absentee ballots yet which was strange. We vote in our state of residence due to military assignment. I then realized it was bc we never requested them, Woops. We sent the requests out Monday and I received my ballot yesterday via email. I assume H did as well. I will print and fill it out and return it today or tomorrow.
