It's bizarrely warm today - the high is 77! Four years ago we had snow on the ground for Halloween.
I was just seeing pictures of that in my FB memories! DD was making snow angels on Halloween. What a year 2020 was....
I know! I'm so excited for a warm Halloween. So much more fun! We have no plans. Kids will get pizza at afterschool so we will pick them up ready to go out. A group of neighbors is going together at some point, but we are never able to keep up so I think we are just going around ourselves. It is easier that way. I'm trying to keep it low key this year and just enjoy it instead of stressing.
Having one child really gives you a very false sense of parenting superiority.
My daughter has decided she doesn't like any food other than peach teething biscuits. My son would be a bit particular, but ate regularly. This girl? Nope.
lol! We were always one and done but having an overall easy child has pretty much solidified it. I know we didn’t do anything special and we just got lucky and it’s her personality but I def wouldn’t press our luck with another! She started talking really early and now talks in full sentences and has conversations and one of my mom’s friends was like what did you do/ how did you teach her. I was like haha literally nothing, I’m the opposite of trying to push stuff on her. We just let her be. She also eats lots of vegetables and pretty much whatever we eat, sleeps through the night, travels well, etc . It really is just luck of the draw!

Ha! I almost forgot, I was on the radio this morning. My little 5 minutes of fame on The Highway They were talking about Christmas trees so I called in to tell them about my Holiday Tree. I wasn't sure if they were going to play me on air, but literally as I parked my car at the office I heard my voice on the radio. So that was my excitement for the day.

Ha! My kids are complete opposites. DD1 was/is a great sleeper and eater, while DD2 has hated sleep since she was born (she's 6 now, sob!) and is SO picky (relatively). On the other hand, DD1 was super clingy, shy, sensitive kid while DD2 has been way more chill and easygoing. It is funny how they are so different. It makes you realize how little control you have as a parent!
Today is the last day of open enrollment at my job. I have carried all our benefits for years, but MH's company was just bought by another and they have new options. I have been pushing him to bring home the info for weeks and he kept putting it off, and now my benefits site keeps kicking me out/freezing. If I miss this deadline because of his procrastination he will be rehomed.
Wallflower, our cat has been catching mice lately, too! The problem is he keeps them alive to play with. So then they are running around my house which freaks me out. Yesterday though we came home and he left one as a gift for us right inside the door and I have never been so happy to see a dead mouse, lol.
our school does not allow costumes on halloween, but in art class leading up to today they all make elaborate masks. Then they do a mask parade in the afternoon, so I will go to that. Then tonight we ToT with friends in a great neighborhood and since we do not have school tomorrow, I told S that we can go to a second neighborhood and REALLY go for it tonight. He has never had the experience of coming home and sorting through all the candy, etc. I am excited about it for him, lol.

People always comment that talking to DD is like talking with an adult rather than a 9 year old. She has really engaging conversations with adults sometimes! I wonder if being an only and talking solely to adults at home has something to do with that.

We always seem to end up at my ILs house for Halloween. They have a good neighborhood for TOTing and it's also my H's birthday so they want to see him. Sometimes I wish we could just go with friends. My girls are going to be the white and black dragons from How to Train Your Dragon. I tried to convince my son to be Hiccup, the viking, but he is "too old for this". He's 11 lol.

I think it definitely has something to do with it. People have always said the same about DD. She was an only for almost 7 years before DS came along. Her sense of humor and clever timing is on point.
We're going out with a huge group tonight thought I know very few of them. DD's good friend's neighbor hosts a huge gathering and somehow we snagged an invite for the 2nd year in a row. We're going to the friend's house after school to get ready and I volunteered to bring cider and donuts as the after school snack so I need to run to the cider mill on my lunch break.
My 12 year old has plans to meet with his friends and go out. His costume is a pain in the ass (a pea shooter from plants vs zombies) do I assume the head part will just come off at some point. He’s going to be so sweaty lol.
I thought for sure the 17 year old would be at a party since there is no homework assigned/no tests tomorrow (for Diwali) but I forget early action applications are due by midnight so turns out his entire class is basically staying home and feverishly finishing college applications instead of having Halloween fun
Why did I just find out just now that the dodgers are LA based when reading an article about riots after the World Series win? I thought they were the Brooklyn Dodgers. I googled when they moved thinking it must have been recently only to find it happened in 1958 - 27 years before I was born, so why do I associate them with Brooklyn?!

This was definitely how my first was! Definitely not my second! LOL
DS2 is going to a party with friends and then going ToTing. DS1 has to go to the freshman football game and then I’m not sure what he’s doing. He has to pack for his football game tomorrow, it’s at a school 4 hours away so the team is leaving tomorrow am. He might so ToTing with friends but I’m not sure. I’m going to my bestie’s house to sit in the driveway with their fire pit and a tumbler of wine. DH is playing poker in the mountains where they’re giving away a bunch of money today.

Rainy day here, but should stop by trick or treating time. I was out earlier on a walk and saw one of the neighbor's little ones outside in his costume waiting to head to preschool. I asked if he would come TOT at my house tonight because I had something special for him. His eyes got real big and he said "Money?!"
DD was to TOT with DS2, but then he made plans to TOT with friends yesterday, so she is so sad as she loves going with him. We don't live near her friends, so DH or I will walk around with her. DH has been so busy with work, I hope he can walk her around and that I can sit outside bundled up with wine and hand out our candy. Going to a winery later to stock up for the holidays and a bottle for tonight. Will grab breadsticks and pizza for dinner. I will have to run out to pick up DS1 XC practice, hopefully doesn't go over tonight.
My three are all going ToT with various friends so I'll probably be running them to their houses. I plan to hand out candy- some years we get a lot of ToT's and sometimes not. It's going to be chilly tonight so we shall see. Hopefully I can leave the office around 4 and will probably pick up Papa Murphys pizzas.
I wish it was going to be a little cooler for ToT tonight, but I'm just so happy the predicted rain is holding off until tomorrow!
I wish we could start ToT at like 430-5pm, I know DD1 will be asking to go as soon as she gets home + the little ones need to go to bed early. I realize this is unrealistic though.
DD is trying to tell me she's going to be a princess tonight with one of her dress up dresses. I told her she is 100% wearing the costume she made me buy for her (cat), I'm not wasting that money! We'll see how she feels after school.

DS was supposed to hang out with his GF and friends tonight, but the nurse just called and got sick at school. We're not giving out candy this year and now I kind of feel bad because we live in a area with lots of kids. Originally DS had practice tonight so we weren't going to be home, but the coach cancelled it. I don't have a car today so unless MH decides to stop on his way home we'll be sitting in the dark this year.
Adding to the mouse conversation, I went downstairs to clean up breakfast and there was a dead mouse next to my kitchen mat. I heard my one cat running downstairs like a maniac, but was not expecting that. We maybe get one mouse every other year or so. I guess it was our turn.

Teaching on Halloween is for the birds and tomorrow will be worse. In one of the dumbest decisions known to mankind, Monday is an in service day. WHY NOT THE FRIDAY AFTER HALLOWEEN, YOU DODOS?!
Both kids are ToTing with friends. I don’t know their plans. I assume they’ll show up at my house at some point. DH and I have plans to sit on our back stoop and give out candy and drink wine.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Susie I can't see the costume (unless you took it down on purpose...)
I'm hiding for a few hours tonight. I don't feel like being social. I'm tired. I'm stressed...so I'll go indulge in a kid's tofu burrito and my book while TOT is going on. I tend to give out candy every few years. I did buy some Reeces Cups for myself.
