I'm driving mine down to the old house tonight so she can spend Halloween w her friends there. She's spending the night
Today we were 20 mins late for school BUT the important part is that she's there! We can work on the timing wrinkles but my goal for the first month is simply to get her to school.
eta - this sucks .. the friends from the old neighborhood bailed on her at the last minute
My sister was approved for a liver transplant! For reasons I do not understand, her doctors don’t think that a living donor would be appropriate. However, they expect to be able to do the transplant within 2 to 3 weeks. I know the road ahead will be tough for her, but this is still a huge relief. Thanks again for all the support and information y’all had for me.
Why did I just find out just now that the dodgers are LA based when reading an article about riots after the World Series win? I thought they were the Brooklyn Dodgers. I googled when they moved thinking it must have been recently only to find it happened in 1958 - 27 years before I was born, so why do I associate them with Brooklyn?!
Clearly I don’t follow baseball at all.
Ha, I'm the same way! I have no idea why that is.
That's funny, because when I heard they won this morning, I definitely had the train of thought - where are the Dodgers from? Brooklyn?
I didn't think any further so I would have just gone with that, I guess, lol. What's wrong with us? Why do we think that?
Well, my SIL is alive. She was NOT in Valencia this week, but it sounds like they do live there or are partially living there? So they are not sure if their place is ok, though it sounds like it likely is. She is in the UK right now getting the rest of their stuff. I'm going to write her back and ask for more details about WTF her life even is right now, since apparently nobody in her actual family is going to share that lol. I'm just glad they are ok. The flooding there looks awful, I feel so bad for people all over the world who have been getting flooding and other natural disasters this year.
I am planning to give out candy today, but we will see how it goes with a dog in the house this year. He is very barky when people come to our door, but that's kind of how MOST dogs are? So maybe that's not going to be an issue. He does like kids and I plan to just pick him up when they come over. So we'll see if that works or if I need to just leave the candy on the porch at some point. My dog IS dressed as a pumpkin today and he's adorable, so I hope it works out.
I love Halloween in theory, but it's been super lame as a childless adult who doesn't have any friends who throw parties or anything. I am not super big on costumes anyway (mostly because I'm not creative like that) but I love spooky movies and decorations and Halloween themed treats, etc. These days the holiday makes me feel more left out than anything else, which is kind of a bummer. I've probably said that every year, lol.
I love Halloween! We are probably going ToT with our neighbors. We live in a large, hilly neighborhood so we actually get a lot of exercise going to all the houses. DS got to wear part of his costume to school today and I’m hoping he wears it all day, or at least remembers to take it home. I don’t know what we will do if he forgets it at school. I reminded him a million times, but he is the worst at leaving things at school.

Good news! She is probably too sick for a living donor.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

I’m admittedly a Halloween Scrooge. Both my kids are going to parties. I plan to shut off all the outside lights and hang with my dog.
I am going to go watch my son’s high school baseball team’s Halloween game, should be pretty funny.
Speaking of my son, he was up super late last night finishing college applications that are due tomorrow. He read me some of his essays and I was very impressed!

Thanks for the good thoughts for my DS yesterday. The reason I was asking for them never happened so…sigh. Onto another day I guess.
Halloween is fun but exhausting. Ds1 will be going with friends again this year, they will watch a scary movie and probably go scrounge for candy. Ds2 will go with his bestie and some friends who are my friends to trick or treat and we will drag ds3 with us ds2 already isn’t into trick treating (he’s 13) so we need to start coming up with some new plans for ds3 next year, which is very sad.
lol! We were always one and done but having an overall easy child has pretty much solidified it. I know we didn’t do anything special and we just got lucky and it’s her personality but I def wouldn’t press our luck with another! She started talking really early and now talks in full sentences and has conversations and one of my mom’s friends was like what did you do/ how did you teach her. I was like haha literally nothing, I’m the opposite of trying to push stuff on her. We just let her be. She also eats lots of vegetables and pretty much whatever we eat, sleeps through the night, travels well, etc . It really is just luck of the draw!
This was definitely how my first was! Definitely not my second! LOL
Haha exactly. You just never know! They all have their own little personalities from the beginning.
Susie I can't see the costume (unless you took it down on purpose...)
I'm hiding for a few hours tonight. I don't feel like being social. I'm tired. I'm stressed...so I'll go indulge in a kid's tofu burrito and my book while TOT is going on. I tend to give out candy every few years. I did buy some Reeces Cups for myself.
Teaching on Halloween is for the birds and tomorrow will be worse. In one of the dumbest decisions known to mankind, Monday is an in service day. WHY NOT THE FRIDAY AFTER HALLOWEEN, YOU DODOS?!
Both kids are ToTing with friends. I don’t know their plans. I assume they’ll show up at my house at some point. DH and I have plans to sit on our back stoop and give out candy and drink wine.
3 years ago our district voted to always have the day after Halloween off (they won't have Halloween off because the elementary kids have a party/parade, so I think the higher grades still do some fun activities/little teaching). It has been the BEST. This year, we have Fri., Mon. and Tues. off because most of the schools are polling places, and they didn't want the kids to just go randomly on Monday so that's an in-service day. I'm so looking forward to this little break since we don't get a fall break or many days off before now.

I think because pretty much movie, book or tv show that takes place in NYC pre-the move mentions the Brooklyn Dodgers. Or basically anything that mentions baseball at all in that era.
They must have had quite a following outside side of the area. Or were quite good so they’d make the news a lot? But they appear in pop culture a lot.

My daughter got sick out of nowhere in the middle of the night last night so no school celebrations or ToT for her. She's pretty sad, and of course bouncing off the walls by 2pm and feels totally fine. UGH
We bought our house over the summer and while it's in a nice neighborhood, across from a school, there are no sidewalks or streetlights and the houses aren't super close together.
I bought some candy but my partner is now convinced we are going to get a ton of trick or treaters so I'm debating if we need to go out and get more.
ALso it is snowing here and people are losing their absolute minds. I'm the weirdo that loves winter and snow and so I'm just rolling my eyes at all the whiners.
I stayed up watching the LA Dodgers win! My DH is such a big fan, so it was great to watch!
Tonight we will pick up sandwiches and hang at home. I want to put on a Halloween movie and hand out candy. SS has a costume, SD doesn’t, but we will see if they both want to go trick o treating.

I’d be better with the snow if it wasn’t Halloween and wasn’t in the 60’s the past 2 days!

I'm so jealous of your snow! It's almost 80F here today and I'm annoyed. I want cool weather!
I will be turning all the lights off tonight and trying to keep my two dogs from barking for 3 hours straight.

Clearly someone who has stepped foot in a classroom made this policy.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
My kid goes to a balanced calendar school and the week of Halloween is always an Intersession week - the teachers understood the assignment when they voted on the calendar!
My kid has decided she doesn't want to TOT but she does have a costume so I'm hoping she'll change her mind. She's pretty much always preferred to pass out the candy so I'm not entirely surprised but I was sad when she declared it was because she was too old. She's not - she's only 11!
It's gorgeous out so maybe we'll set up in the driveway to pass out candy. We're a full size candy bar house because every though we live in a huge neighborhood we're pretty far back so we don't get a ton of folks but our whole end of the cul de sac does full size because if they made it this far back they deserve a reward LOL
My coworkers and I will be rock, paper and scissors. We teach reading intervention.
A large portion of the staff will be dominoes.
I’m toothpaste, one coworker is a toothbrush, and our doc agreed to be “the 5th dentist” 😂🤣
We were m&ms. I was a navy blue one. I didn't want to do it, but it turned out to be an easy costume to be festive for all of DS's school stuff. I have not been festive in over 20 years. The staff was super into it and it was more fun than I expected.
Legitimate question for those who turn off lights and don't pass out candy because of your pets - how come you don't set yourself up on your porch or the like so no one has to ring/knock? Sincerely no judgement around not passing out candy I'm just curious!

We don’t pass it out because we generally haven’t gotten people in the past. However we live in Michigan, it is very warm today but it isn’t unusual for it to be snowing/cold enough to require winter coats. No way in hell I’m sitting outside for 2 hours.

LOL I'm in MI too and we've certainly had all the types of weather on Halloween so we're loving this!

My local schools have an in service day today, but school tomorrow. A Friday. Not even a parent, but why?!
We don’t get trick or treaters or have children so Halloween is pretty blah. In the past I’ve made an effort for us to have something fun for dinner and picked out themed movies to watch but I’m exhausted by life and didn’t this year.
I have already put effort into Christmas and Hanukkah this year so hopefully that will be more exciting.

I'd rather hang with my pets. I'm not a people person.
