2nd time flying alone with our daughter! Last time she couldn’t really walk or talk much and now she’s full on toddler haha. There’s a car service here with professionally installed car seats so we used that today and the drivers are always so friendly, even this morning at 6am!
We’re going to visit one of my close friends and her 2 young daughters and it’ll be the perfect weekend to take my mind off the stress of the election and the state of this country for a bit. I know that’s a privileged thing to say, but how I’m feeling right now.
I'll head over around noon to pick up my mother for the night. She gets hunge numbers of ToT-ers even when there aren't any lights on at all. She used to go upstairs and hide, starting around 3 pm. Now that she's living on the first floor, she can't do that and really can't go the whole night with no lights or TV. So, a few years back, I started bringing her to my house for the night. I don't get a lot of ToT-ers but I like jumping up and going to the door, so Mom doesn't have to do a thing.
My random of the day - I've killed off 5 mice in my garage this week, 3 in the last ~14 hours. My handyman sealed up some of the access points and I'd hoped that it would help but those numbers don't lie.
DD's friend still hasn't committed to plans for tonight so not sure if she'll be TOT with the friend or my nephews.
DS apparently learned yesterday that his plans with friends tonight were actually a ploy to set him up on a date. He is going to a haunted hayride with his friend, the friend's girlfriend, and one of the girlfriend's friends. He seemed a little thrown for a loop last night but also a little excited.
I think ToT plans are solid. Just a matter of which adults are going with the kids. My child did not seem to get that I am not her personal makeup and hair artist for tonight since I'm at the office and have no clue if I can leave a little early to help her.
Also I was like "it will be dark? who will see your makeup?" Probably not the best thing to say, but her attitude was ridiculous.

Work is a 1/2 day. I was excited to attend DS’ school parade of costumes. Instead my bone head teen got in trouble at school yesterday. Now I get to go meet with her assistant principal. DD’s story is missing some details or something. She was pulled from a class by the SRO. This kid has never been in the office or had any issues in school. I guess senior year she had to be a dumb dumb.

I'm getting off a couple of hours early to grab some snacks and stuff to bring to my friends house before we ToT.
I'm probably more excited for tonight than DS is lol. I can't wait to catch up with my neighborhood friends and have some adult beverages while the kids hang out.
We are getting rain all morning and our 1st snow this afternoon. Not looking to be the greatest Halloween. I hope we still get out for a little trick or treating. It’s the anniversary of my grandmother’s death. My mom is really struggling. I kind of want the day to just be over.

We're not on a big street for trick or treating which is actually good. We'll be closing our blinds as my dog is not good with people knocking or ringing the bell. And I think my H is going out with a friend for drinks, so it'll just be me. I wish my dog wasn't so insane because I LOVE Halloween.
DD will pass out candy- she thinks ToTing is for suckers since she can sit on the porch with a big bowl of candy and eat what she likes. DS is going with a couple of friends in the neighborhood, TBD on whether I'm staying with them or not until I check in with the other parents. I'm leaning toward no since they're starting at a friend's house at one end of the neighborhood and can work their way back towards us, and he'll have his phone so I can see where he is and check in.
I slept like a rock last night, so of course I'm rested but my neck is killing me. I can barely look to my right without turning my whole body.

It's so weird having almost adult kids for Halloween. DS is a sophomore in college so not sure if he's hanging out with friends tonight or studying. DD is 17 and going from school to her friends, to a party and then a sleepover. She will come hang out with me when I TOT with my school age nieces for a little while but that's the only time I'll see her. DH will stay home and hand out candy. We don't get very many in our new small neighborhood since it's so hilly and we are toward the top of the hill. I work a little today and go to yoga and I'm going for a walk with my friend. I guess I'll Venmo each of my kids some pizza money. Glad I have my little nieces to love on
Our trick-or-treat was Saturday, but my kids go again tonight in their grandma's and cousins' neighborhood. Several communities here have different times, so it's very common to go twice. LOTS of candy. We've had an amazing warm fall but it's supposed to be fairly cold-ish (compared to how it's been) and very windy tonight so we'll see how that goes. DH's mom has had us over for years and makes dinner for the kids and cousins--mummy dogs, orange Jell-o jigglers, clementine pumpkins...traditional Halloween kid meal. Really cute even as the kids get older.
15 yo DD went with us over the weekend but has dress rehearsal tonight for the school play, so she won't go.
9 yo gets to wear her costume to school all day and watch Hotel Transylvania/have treats later. Luckily her costume (Simone Biles) is super easy to manage and wear all day.
DD2 is having a group over to ToT in our ‘hood. We’ve “hosted” every year but this year there are some new girls coming which is nice. This may be our last year as the parents of ToTers so trying to enjoy it. But it’s going to be 82* which is ridiculous.
It’s raining?? For the first time since July?! Will be a bummer for the little kids if it continues all day. Currently it’s supposed to rain on and off all day until 6.
DD is going trick or treating with her best friend. This has never been her favorite holiday but she’s always happy to have friend time! I’m sure she will just throw on an Astro’s jersey and call that a costume for the 4th year in a row.

My kids aren't TOTing tonight, and I'm kind of sad that that era is over. I'll be in my driveway by 5:30 with my firepit, candy, and shooters of Fireball for the adults. We don't get a ton of kids, maybe 40 or so, but I'm still looking forward to seeing everyone dressed up.
Ds1 is going to TOT with his friend, I’ll take ds2 around our neighborhood. It is supposed to rain which is a bummer. Hopefully we get a break to be able to at least do our street.

Having one child really gives you a very false sense of parenting superiority.
My daughter has decided she doesn't like any food other than peach teething biscuits. My son would be a bit particular, but ate regularly. This girl? Nope.
Happy Halloween! This is my favorite holiday. We went to a huge party last Saturday, tonight I'm handing out candy, I took tomorrow off to watch movies and eat leftover candy and then we're going to a costume party, and then another costume party on Saturday.
Also, happy Diwali! My coworker is from India and he is sending everyone on the team a box of baklava (we're all remote and all over the country). So sweet!
I am so jealous of all you rain people (outside of it falling on a day that sucks, lol). Our neighbor just put his house up for sale and they posted the drone shots last night. It’s shocking. Usually this time of year we still have nice green grass and it’s peak week for vibrant fall leaf colors. This looks like it’s shot in sepia. It really hasn’t hit me how dire it is until I saw the pics. It’s troubling.
My old neighborhood was so awesome for trick or treating. We would really get into it. I really miss that, as new neighborhood gets zero. The first year we got two, both had parents driving them around and stopping and houses with the signs showing (lights, pumpkins). After that, we keep the lights off just to not be a distraction. I thought our neighborhood would start turning over with younger families, but the last three houses on the street that sold, were all couples older than us. So, at 49/50 we are still the babies on the street 🤣. Wonderful 364 days of the year, Halloween bummer.
So I’m doing my usual fencing thing tonight. But it’s going to be sparse attendance. And I can’t stay late because I have to be in Philly by 9am tomorrow. So I need to be out by 6am. And I haven’t managed to get out of bed before 8am this week. This is gonna suck.

We had ToT last night because we're supposed to have bad weather tonight. We only had 15 kids which was disappointing, last year was closer to 60. But none of our neighbors were passing out candy this year. Our neighbor across the street is a racist, transphobic asshole and come over and made some comments last night about the kids and their costumes. We firmly told him that all kids are welcome at our home and sent him back to his house. FI was steaming mad and ready to throw down with this old man.
DD2 is at (I think her last?) XC practice, and when she's done I'll drop off DD1 at the school to work all day on the school play. I'm finishing up a couple of work things that should be done in the next hour.
The rest of the day is tidying and prep for a small party tonight. We've got a group of about 8 teens coming plus my two. They'll ToT at a few of the crazy houses nearby, they still get a kick out of ToTing and when they've done that, they'll come back here for games/snacks/hanging out until 10-ish. We've got three other parents who are planning to come over and hang out with DH and me while the kids are out, so he and I will get some socializing, too.
We have a neighborhood adults-only costume party on Saturday. It's monster-themed, and DH and I (after we couldn't get mummy costumes because we waited too long) are going as the mahna-mahna muppet monsters. I ordered all the stuff and was supposed to get the last couple of items yesterday, but when I opened the package this morning it was a charging cable set instead of pink horns and a green feather boa. SIGH. It's unusual for Amazon to get something wrong and of course it would be something that I really need on a deadline! So I re-ordered and hopefully they'll get it right this time, luckily we have a couple of days still.

I'm relieved that STBX agreed to let me take DD TOTing on his night and I'm excited to do the makeup for her costume later, Zombie Hockey Player - complete with a puck in the forehead. Last night I did the back of one of her old practice jerseys with her number and "ZOMBIE" where the name goes and squeezed some fake blood all over it. We're going TOTing with the same friends we've gone with for years, they have the perfect neighborhood for it. I invited my new friend and her son and they're coming too. It will be a fun night for all.
DS has a little costume parade at school at 2:15pm and then he gets to go home early with us instead of going to after care. Typically I'd send him to after care and go back to work, but today's kind of like my Friday since I'm off tomorrow, so it should be quiet. He is dressing as Ironman. We plan to trick-or-treat tonight just the 3 of us in our neighborhood, but I'm kinda hoping we run into a neighbor friend he can walk around with to make it a little more exciting. I usually set a bowl of candy on our porch since we're not there to hand out.
Normally, we also trick-or-treat in my mom's neighborhood (in her city it's always a Thursday, so our ToT's are typically different days) but since they're both tonight, I don't have to do that, score. She loves it for the nostalgia so I feel bad saying no, but I'm definitely not mad to have a year off of that.
Halloween is fun but not my favorite holiday, so I'm excited for Nov 1 to hit and it be the Christmas season basically, lol. Though I am not one of those people to decorate that early.
