wildrice how did you know people were immigrants and people of color voting for Trump? I’ve voted in a few states and there is no collection of demographic data or if you’re a recent immigrant. Is that on the ballots there?
As a former constituent I love Sherrod. I sent him money even though I moved from there 20 years ago. AND I donated to the DSCC multiple times when they had matches so his campaign would get more dollars. I really was holding my breath on this one. It was SO needed.
and with Cruz over Allred, I'm seriously messed up right now. Even if she gets the Oval, who the eff will the Senate approve for her Cabinet choices, judges, SCOTUS, etc. with Senate confirmation required.
I'm feeling really screwed right now.
AAM2012 I've heard quite a few mail-in ballots for Trump. With olders voting, and with him actually pushing mail-in this time out, R folks are "trusting the system" more this election.
I am very fortunate that I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes. Maybe this is a dumb question but how do they handle elderly or disabled people who cannot physically stand in line for 3 hours? Is someone offering them chairs? Are they expected to bring their own?
I was in (a 10-15 minute) line today with an older woman who was absolutely losing her mind because her husband wouldn't be able to stand very long and she wanted him to get to the polls in time to jump the line in front of her. He didn't make it but I saw him in line with a walker when I left. I'm sure he was fine for 15 minutes, but not sure how it would have worked if he'd needed to wait hours.
Am I correct in thinking you live in PA? (If not completely disregard...) The elderly and/or disabled can request absentee ballots. My grandparents were absolutely unable to stand in a line for many years before they passed away and they always requested absentee ballots. So while I am sympathetic to people who are physically unable to stand in a long line, there are options for them so they aren't required to do so.
If it was their choice to vote in person... eh, expect the line. If they didn't have absentee ballots because they don't understand how to request them/how to return them/etc. then we really need to step up the education and support on that front.
I turned off the tv but 270towin.com currently has it 226 Harris to 230 Trump with 86 uncalled. We are still very much in it and if you compare the map to 2020 so far the races that have been called line up pretty closely.
I don’t know if manifesting works but we have to try! We are going to win this shit!

My disabled grandma did absentee this time. But… I know she wanted to vote Harris but my grandpa was voting trump. I worry that she wouldn’t go against his vote when they’re together at the kitchen table, but would’ve in the privacy of in person voting?

Yup, in PA. It was absolutely their choice to vote in person vs mail in. I was just curious if there was any official rule about how to handle the situation if the line was super long. Sounds like there isn't, at least in PA.
I don’t trust the whole “mail in ballots tend to lean blue” anymore. I think there is a high chance we will see more Republicans vote by mail this year.
I can't speak to other states but in PA the number of mail in ballots per party is public knowledge. So of the 1.9 million mail in ballots returned, over 1 million were returned by registered democrats and ~600k were registered Republicans (with a few 100k 3rd party/independents). Not saying people are voting along party lines but it wasn't just based on an assumption

I feel like Democrats need to accept that Texas is just not happening. It feels like the last three elections ton of resources are put into flipping the Texas Senate seat and getting Texas to flip blue and it just does not happen.

Also, I am not watching TV, just reading. I wish it weren't so close but nothing I'm seeing is shocking-- no states called so far have flipped from 2020. PA isn't going to be called tonight. And a lot of the other close states probably won't either. I know we all have PTSD from 2016, but I think we all need to take a deep breath.
In Australia postal voting is very common but assume in the US this isn't a reason you can posta vote? We even set up poll booths in the prisions on election day so realise very different systems voting wise
Voting methods are determined by each state so it’s different in all 50. For example, California automatically sends mail in ballots to everyone registered, it’s easy to register, there are tons of ballot drop boxes or you can mail it, or you can vote in person on Election Day, you can register and vote same day and probably not wait long. In Texas it’s extremely difficult to get an absentee ballot unless you have a specific reason, you have to know that in advance by a certain date several weeks ahead, you have to register to vote by a certain date several weeks ahead of the election, you can early vote on specific days and times but there may only be 1 location for that in your city and then on Election Day you may have to go vote at a specific place near your home between certain hours. Other states typically fall somewhere between those extremes and do a lot of both mail in, early and in person voting. In some states Felons can or can’t vote. Trump likely wouldn’t have been able to vote in FL because he’s not finished with his felony sentence but since he was convicted in NY and they let Felons who are not currently incarcerated vote, FL law says to follow NY law. Texas purposefully makes things difficult in urban areas with a lot of POC and democrats and that is intentional voter suppression. Swing states like GA and NC are known for this too.
I feel like Democrats need to accept that Texas is just not happening. It feels like the last three elections ton of resources are put into flipping the Texas Senate seat and getting Texas to flip blue and it just does not happen.
I knew it was a long shot just like FL and her visit was probably more about getting reproductive stories, press with Beyoncé in her home state and helping Allred’s campaign. 2028 is more likely but they need more Dem turnout too.

Actually I had a whole thing typed but I am second guessing how much I should be talking about this publicly. Happy to discuss more via PM.

Ohio is so fucking embarrassing. Might as well start calling us Florida. First Vance, now Moreno. The gerrymandering issue failed so I guess this bullshit is here to stay.

Fuck! The gerrymandering failed!?!
I live in the bad place AKA beta testing of project 2025 AKA Arkansas. I’m sobbing at the results so far. Why is our country so full of hate?
ETA: sorry, I’m originally from Cincinnati, so I follow Ohio politics fairly closely.
My mom lives in DE and just helped elect the first transgender member of congress! Yay Sarah McBride!

I was saying out loud that I thought he could win, but I guess in my heart I honestly did think Harris was going to win. I feel absolutely gutted right now.
I know it's not over for Harris yet, but I just pictured our next 4 years living in the chaos of a second Trump term and...I'm just not ready to face having to stress over him every single day. 😭😭
I feel like everything we were told was a lie. this blue wave that was coming, the gigantic gender divide, the supposed anti-trump republicans and independents swinging to us....WHERE IS ANY OF THAT?!
I’m not saying he can’t win. But the vote coming in, is metro city centers. We didn’t know until Saturday in 2020.
My biggest heartbreak here in addition to the senate, is there is no gigantic repudiation of MAGAism. It needed to be completely rejected. But that is not the country we live in. And that is why I am soul sick. It is disgusting that his hate speech has so much support. All that he has said and done does not matter to them. It is horrific.
