I am eating leftover nachos for breakfast. Good decision on my part.
I had to pick up a grocery order this morning since I didn't go yesterday, so I'm kind of late to actually starting work. Thankfully, this is mainly a week of us working on our own and adjusting schedules before students come back, and it's pretty quiet, so I'll get my stuff done. This is our last week of summer hours and getting done at 2:30 also I will probably pick DS up early and head to the pool since it's going to be another nice day.
DS starts soccer practice tomorrow. This is the first year our community center has had their shit together this early. Usually we're not hearing anything about soccer until the first week of school. I think it's a good thing overall, but I wasn't necessarily ready to start all of that yet and am kind of bummed about not being able to do whatever we want all week lol.
DS has decided that he wants to go to Chuck E Cheese for his birthday. He loves arcade games. They have a deal for 6 kids for $100. I don't think that includes the pizza but it includes 2 hours of game play for all of them plus some special stuff for the birthday boy. H and I will take them next Friday evening on his actual birthday. We asked 4 of his school friends and his cousin - 3 friends confirmed, waiting to hear back from the other 1, and his cousin may not be able to due to football practice, so we might need to ask someone else. It's been a little tough figuring out who to ask, and also not wanting to hurt any feelings. I'm sure I am giving more consideration to this than other people do, though. He has been left out of things before and that's just the way it is.
my day started at 3:30 when MY CATS CAUGHT (AND KILLED THANK GOD) A SNAKE IN MY BEDROOM.
I heard my cats playing loudly and I assumed it was one of the cat toys. It was pitch dark and I did not have contacts in, so I could not see a thing and just reached down to grab said toy and toss it out of the room. Imagine my surprise when I felt a snake.

I was off all of last week and it was so nice. I walked into some craziness today and I'm slowly digging my way out of 500+ emails. My boss still hasn't heard from corporate if he can go part-time.
I didn't get the job from a couple of weeks ago, but I have an interview today for another remote job.
I had a mammogram last week and got a call to come back in. They are seeing an area of concern, something is showing up as asymmetrical, which hasn't in the past 6 years. They can't get me in until the 28th, so I'm trying not to freak out in the meantime. Google tells me asymmetry is normal, my only concern is that it's new after 6 prior mammograms.
I'm fasting until after I get my blood drawn at 8:15am. I'm bringing coffee with me to drink on the way home. Hopefully this 4th blood draw in 21 days will get me some answers as to why my sodium level continues to drop.
After that: breakfast and tutoring. I haven't planned past 10:30am yet.
I also had a pet related sleep interruption. My older dog sleeps on my bed with me and the younger one prefers her crate or a dog bed. At 1:30, younger dog pounced on my bed and older dog told her to fuck off. So I was up for a while in the middle of the night. If younger dog had quietly gotten on the bed, I think she could have laid down and slept with us without incident.
shauni27 omg, trauma!!! We had 2 snakes in our house in the same year. The first time was the most terrifying because I saw it out of the corner of my eye just as toddler DS2 was about to step on it in his bare feet and it looked like a baby rattlesnake. Luckily it wasnāt, but DH was out of town and I had to catch it and put it outside (far away). Shortly after I thought I saw a snake under our sofa and it turned out to be a tiny plastic toy snake, and that is when I implemented the no toy snakes of any kind rule, not even stuffed animal obviously fake ones! Still no idea how they got in!
We had to help our neighbors adult daughter who locked herself out of the house with the gas stove on while she was house sitting. She was super paranoid about snakes getting in the house so she was making sure to keep all the doors shut and somehow the security screen door locked behind her when she went outside. DH managed to get in through a back window as I was on the phone with the fire dept (and we could smell gas/ burning)
Today is the kids first day of school. DS1 is starting high school!!! We had an ultimate last day of summer yesterday with a big water balloon fight with friends and then we decided to go to the beach together. I had other stuff to do, but with the kids going back so early, I wanted to savor every moment of summer. Iād taken them to the waterpark the day before. On the way home, DS2 who is going into 4th grade sincerely thanked me. š
shauni27, OMG that's horrible! I would die. I hope you never see it again!
Not quite as bad but TW I am in the office this morning and there was a dead huge cockroach on its back in the room where I'm hosting new hire orientation. I went to scoop it up and throw it away and it started wiggling its legs - barf. I went and got one of the guys from facilities to dispose of it. I generally try to just take care of stuff like that myself vs bothering someone else, but I guess that's my line. I'll throw away something dead but if it's alive I'm too squeamish.
I have been super bloated since last night and I'm over it. I don't really know why this happens every once in a while but it's so uncomfortable. Hoping it passes soon.
Also, my sister sent me a pic of her 8 year old daughter whose first day of school is today. She lives in Texas, so I was laughing at the picture of her in long pants and a sweatshirt. She looks adorable but the poor kid is going to melt!
My brother will be in town from San Diego from 8/24-9/1, staying with my parents who live 45 minutes away. Obviously, I'll be super happy to see him and his family and I will do whatever I can to get up there as many times as possible (and I'm sure they'll come to me once or twice), but I'm looking at my calendar and realizing this is like the literal worst week for him to come, lol. And yes, I'm aware it's not about me so I would never say anything. But it's my first day of school on the 25th (and that's a blackout week so I'm not allowed to take off at all), we have 3 soccer practices/events in the evenings that week, so that means we don't really have time to go see them those nights - I just don't think I'm going to get to see him as much as I think. I'm not a big fan of skipping practices, but DS might need to skip one so we can get in all the things we want to do.
My son meets all but one of the requirements for an almost-guaranteed scholarship to pay for pilot training. The final requirement is passing a test, which he is scheduled to take on Saturday.
The scholarship is worth $15-20k. He does not seem concerned about the test but I am really stressed about it. I am trying not to be annoying, but he has a history of not taking studying seriously until he bombs a test. The scholarship deadline is Sept 1, so we don't have time for him to fail and retake. I cant wait till this is over.
Morning! It was back to school day for us - 2nd grade! I woke up early to make a big breakfast for her and she seemed happy walking in. I'm so sad summer is over.
followyourarrow, hugs ā I just went through the mammogram call back stress. Mine turned out fine (first callback after 10 years of none) so I will think good thoughts for you!
I am trying to figure out a OTC allergy med that works as well as Zyrtec but doesnāt make me spacey. Probably xyzal is worth a try? I was on Zyrtec daily for years but Iāve been off for a month or so and definitely notice a difference.
DD caught our cat playing with a baby mouse a couple weeks ago and we let it go outside. But I think I would have a literal heart attack if it had been a snake! šµāš«
We had a busy but good weekend. I purged my closet and filled an entire huge Rubbermaid bin to donate, we went to the local county fair with friends after my DDs cheer camp on Saturday, and yesterday I met my friend at a local winery and it was really nice to catch up.
I also was invited to interview in person for a job that would be a good next step for my career. I wasnāt really looking, but itās closer to my house, a decent pay bump, and the hiring manager seemed really great on the phone. My schedule is busy this week so hopefully we can figure out a time that works for both of us.
cheekywife , did you have brain fogginess with either of them? Thatās what Iām trying to eliminate. Zyrtec works great for me, but I feel just a little spaced out when I take even a low dose. Dr Google tells me xyzal tends to actually cause more drowsiness.

I'm really striking out with job interviews. Luckily I have a job, but ugh. I even got shot down for an internal job with no feedback. Right before vacation I applied for a job and after applying I realized that someone that just recently left my company works there so I reached out to her to "put a good word in" and I did get contacted about an interview with HR which was today. At the end of the interview they told me that they'd let me know blah blah blah and that if I'm selected for another interview it will be with the hiring manager who is...my former co-worker lol I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing. Like, I don't know if she actually put in a good word for me, or if I was actually selected based on my resume and she's going to see my resume and be like oh hell no. I guess we will see.
shauni27, what kind of snake? I would have lost my shit as well.
I had a breast biopsy on Friday, and while I'm trying to keep calm because I can't control anything at this point, I'm anxious to get the results. My SIL was diagnosed this Spring with Stage 2, and my close friend advocated for a biopsy of a dense mass in her breast when the doctor said they recommended monitoring it with mammograms. She had it entirely removed and biopsied, only to discover it had pre-cancerous cells. So she's had radiation and is on meds...they caught it super early. These two scenarios moved me to get my biopsy. So now I wait. My Bi-RADS score is 4B: Moderate suspicion (10-50% chance of cancer).
