Actually I read an article (it may be covered in the one you posted too, I didn’t read that one) where one of the dems who voted to keep him spoke up. He said he voted the way did because the ethics investigation hasn’t been completed and he hasn’t been convicted and voting to remove him without either of those things sets a dangerous precedent of just removing people Willy nilly. So while I do think santos should be removed, without a completed investigation he does make a valid point.
Yeah, I think it was Jamie Raskin, or else he made a similar point. Of the handful of people who have been removed from Congress, 2-3 literally left to join the Confederate Army and the others were already convicted of crimes prior to removal.
It is gorgeous today! We went out to Western Maryland for the day, went to a yarn/fiber festival and now I’m sitting outside waiting for my sandwich in the sunshine before we do some walking around.
We did the opposite. We’re in St. Michael’s for the Oysterfest. H has had some oysters on the half shell, so he’s a happy camper.
I went to the doctor on Wednesday because I was afraid my cold was turning into a sinus infection. She was not convinced and wanted me to give it a few more days of self care, which is fine. But she said she would send over a script for antibiotics, but I got a good talking to about waiting til the weekend to pick them up, and only if needed. Fine. So I’m waiting. But dude, the frigging pharmacy hasn’t even filled it yet. Last time I needed a refill, it took over a week and three trips to the pharmacy (because they won’t answer the phone). And I’m just sitting here thinking what if I actually needed something now. WTH?!
And with that, I’m officially looking for a new pharmacy. I’ve heard good things about the Costco pharmacy. I liked I could walk to this one, but I just can’t deal with it. And yes, I knows it’s not the pharmacist’s fault. It’s corporate killing them.
If the pharmacy is a CVS down the street from the high school and next to the recently renovated Starbucks, they have gone down hill. We used to get our prescriptions there and switched. They would text us saying our Rx was ready but when we showed up to get it, they made us wait while they filled it. The worst was when we'd waited in the drive thru line only to be told to come back in 20 minutes.
Add me to the list of people who didn't sleep well last night. I woke up at 1:53 and didn't fall back asleep until 4:30 or so. I'm probably going to take the afternoon off so I can take a nap.
We are going to Germany/Austria on Friday and part of the trip will be a Sound of Music tour in Salzburg. I have never seen the whole movie (I know, I know) so I’m watching it today. I have one billion other things to be doing but it seems like this is important to understand the tour.
Have a great time! We took the tour a week ago and it was great!
These episodes by McConnell look a lot like the absence seizures H had years ago. He would be in the middle of saying something, would stare off into space, and would "come back" when I called his name repeatedly (or snapped in his face). He never remembered it happening or even a minute or two beforehand. He had a ton of memory problems outside of that, so my guess is Mitch is too. I hope he's being seen and treated by a neurologist and retires.
If we knew nothing about this family, and wanted to make a “based on a true story” movie, it wouldn’t be an un-interesting perspective to make Robin the protagonist:
“In a world of polygamy, watch the story of marriage, divorce, and re-marriage. Watch as a first wife is cast out and branded with divorce. Only to re-marry into a new family as a fourth wife. Not satisfied as a fourth wife, watch Robin slowly climb up the ranks of wife-dom to be seated as first wife again. Leaving a trail of broken spiritual marriages in her wake, when in the end, all three sister wives divorce.”
Wait Meri re-married as a fourth wife in another family? Wtffff.
(I think I only watched the first season of this show, but I have dabbled in updates here and am all in on this thread.)
No. The quote above is from the perspective of Robyn if we were to tell this story. She was married before, got divorced, and married Kody to become his 4th wife.
Just hopping in to say. When I was a teen we rode down on some type of contraption into a salt mine/underground lake and almost 30 years later it’s still one of the coolest things I ever experienced so if you can swing that I say go for it!
Yeah! Berchtesgaden salt mines are so cool. And the Eagles Nest is also there. We're headed to southern Germany next month and will be taking a day trip there. We're also going to drive to Salzburg for a day-- we'll see the fortress, Mozart's' birth place, and do some shopping in the Getreidegasse (there is a great Christmas and Easter store there) in the morning and then take the afternoon Sound of Music Tour. On previous trips, we have stopped at Schloss Hellbrunn and done a tour. There are some neat fountains there.
Hansen's disease (leprosy) is something that's recorded in the US each year and around the world. An outbreak of cases could be due to a variety of factors. Climate change could be one of those factors if it meant an increase in the armadillo population in that area-- and some armadillos carry that bacterial naturally.
It also doesn't help that two of the top public health jobs are currently vacant. I can't imagine why public health professionals wouldn't want to work for DeSantis? (sarcasm)
lilafowler , I may try a liquid sugar. I honestly don't think it's my diet that's causing the distress, but it's only for a month. I'm keeping a food journal and I really do eat the same things over and over, but I'll have the data for my in person appt end of the month.
And congrats on the new job! Don't overthink it!
I would have argued that coffee with splenda was something I'd had every morning for years so that clearly couldn't be the cause of any recent onset GI issues. I need my coffee with splenda (plus half and half).
I'm so sorry to hear about your PE but glad you're on the mend. I had a PE ~9 years ago. I suspect it was the result of a hormonal imbalance that gave me super heavy periods. They never figured out the cause of my PE even after a ton of testing. I ended up getting an IUD so I didn't have to worry about having another period.
You might want to look into whether you can prepay points. We were able to get a 5.99% rate on a 30 year mortgage doing that. You could always overpay each month to pay off the house more quickly.
I'm not opposed to this, either! I get motion sick which is a big reason that cruises don't appeal to me, but people swear you don't feel the motion on bigger boats. Some of these posts about swaying long after you get off make me nervous though.
We did an all inclusive in Punta Cana maybe 5 years ago and we all loved it. I would welcome suggestions if you have them! We are not really a sit on the beach all day kind of family, so would want a resort with a lot of activities.
Flights are cheaper and more available to Florida though, which is why I was thinking maybe a cruise this time to keep the cost down.
My mother inlaw gets motion sickness and she puked numerous times on the boat, even with wearing sea bands and taking meds.
The swaying off the boat really bothers me. I'm fine on the boat but for a few days after, my equilibrium is off and it makes me nauseous.
I get car sick, and I am fine on a cruise ship so long as I wear a scopolamine patch (prescription). I put it on behind my ear a day or so before the cruise and wear it throughout the duration of the cruise. We even stayed at the front of the ship (Royal Caribbean's Adventure) in one of the panoramic rooms and I had zero problems.
Costco vanilla is the best vanilla. That shit is dense and delicious. The overrun in a lot of store bought ice cream is insane (meaning it has a lot of air whipped into it, which makes it light and fluffy but then it melts fast and you’re basically buying air).
This.
Outside of vanilla, we like Tillamook and Turkey Hill. If you live in an area where Blue Bell is sold (we don't), then they rank up there with Tillamook.
I just saw your post. I'm sorry that you and your partner are having to navigate this but am so glad that the procedure went well. Wishing him a speedy recovery. And keeping my fingers crossed that you get good news from pathology.
L: We close on our new house tomorrow. And in the next 2 weeks, we'll be replacing the flooring on the first floor, replacing the laminate counters with quartz, and getting a new fridge and also a drink fridge.
I'm hoping someone can talk me down, or at least help me come up with an emergency plan of what we should be doing.
We're under contract on a new house and scheduled to close June 9, and then we're planning to list our current house once we close. I am starting to panic that if the default happens we're going to end up with a sky-high interest rate on the new house, and be unable to sell our current house at all, let alone for the price we're hoping to get for it.
Also, 100% of our household income comes from the federal government, so the thought of paychecks being delayed in the middle of this is not fun.
We too close on our house on June 9th (woohoo-- 2 weeks!). And 100% of our income comes from the federal government. I'm a little worried too but trying to remain hopeful.
DH has a work convention coming up next month that is in Orlando. His work is a generally progressive non-profit organization. They are understandably in a bit of a panic. They book these things 10 years in advance (and there are over 6K attendees, think on the level of the Democratic Convention) so it isn't really feasible to find an alternative location. They have made a series of statements and have planned protests and other events, but it really sucks for those folks that now will not feel safe attending. They are officially no longer having any conventions in Florida. The pool of states they can have these in is getting pretty small.
We had a conference in TX recently, and the organization emailed members about their disagreements with the state. They also organized volunteer work and a list of local organizations that folks could donate to. I donated and it made me feel less bad about traveling to Texas.
When I was first having trouble with my gastroparesis-- I was in a major "flare up"-- I was seeing this GI doc. I would go into his office carrying a barf bucket, they'd weigh me, he would see me for a minute or two, and then write me a Rx for an oral medication to help. Despite the fact that I wasn't keeping anything down. After a few visits like this, my H came with me. He asked the doc when we would be discussing options for a port or feeding tube for me. And the doctor responded, "why, is she losing weight?" At that point, I had lost over 40 lbs. I was aghast that he would even have to ask since they weighed me at each visit. I was really upset, but my H just said to be quiet and we would find another solution. We left there, and drove straight to our PCP's office. My PCP was off that day, but my H's PCP was in. They immediately put me in a room, and Dr. R came in to see me. He was so kind and so caring. He called a former student of his (who was a GI doc) on his cell phone right there and told him about me. He said we'd try one more med, but that I'd likely be in the ER the next day. And asked that he see me. All of that happened, and the new GI doc met me in the ER. I'll never forget that day-- he sat on the bed next to me in the ER and promised that one day this would all be a bad dream. I credit him with saving my life. I did call the other GI doctor and fired him. I ripped him a new one-- told him how appalling it was that he didn't notice that I'd lost that much weight, that he needed to work on his bedside manner, and that I hoped to never see him again.
A few years ago, I had an incredibly heavy period that lasted way too long. I was literally hemorrhaging. I went to the gyn (a new doctor for me). She asked me how far along I was-- didn't even read my paperwork or start off with "what brings you here today." She put me up in the stirrups, and then didn't even lay a finger on me as I bled on the table. I felt like an absolute leper. She sent me to the ER. I saw the gyn on call in the ER who had a better bedside manner. I scheduled a follow-up in the same practice but with a different doctor-- a man. He was the absolute kindest person. I ended up getting an IUD inserted.
I have an Apple Watch. In addition to tracking activities, I love that mine can also be used to monitor my heart rate and even take an EKG. I've had AFib before, and my cardiologist recommends the Apple Watch for it's EKG capabilities. I'm able to send him pdfs of my EKGs if there is anything funny happening.
