I saw a headline about the controversy a day or two ago and just assumed that Cheerios made an insensitive ad. I finally watched it last night and couldn't get over the cuteness. People do suck.

When I see stuff like this I often think, "god I hate people sometimes." Then I think, no. No, I just hate miserable, racist pieces of shit all the time.
I wish I was shocked that some people would take something sweet and funny, and turn it into an opportunity to say disgusting, hateful crap.
I don't read comments on most articles or videos anymore, because between the random hilarious remarks that are few and far between, there is always some racist/homophobic/sexist/etc. bullshit thrown in.
When I saw the commercial on tv for the first time I didn't even notice it was an interracial couple. I just commented on how cute the little girl is. I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

I have seen that commercial and never once thought anything of the interracial aspect. Like...didn't even notice it. It's just a family. I hate that some people took something so sweet and innocent and made it about something else.
OK, look, you know you all "noticed" that it was an interracial couple. It's not inherently bad to notice these things, especially when it's so rarely depicted in popular culture.
I'd never seen that commercial. Very cute.
Thank you. When I saw it I immediately thought ::this won't end well::
Ridiculous. I've honestly seen that commercial so many times and I never even really noticed it.
Yeah this is where I'm at too. I don't always pay attention during commercials, but I've seen it a few times. It didn't even register as interracial to me.
That is a cute commercial. Since I knew what I was going to see when I watched it, I can't say for sure whether or not I would have noticed the interracial aspect of it. To me it's normal, but that's because I looked just like that little girl as a kid.

Precisely.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the comments of "not noticing" that the couple was interracial isn't "I don't see race'" as much as it didn't register. Like clearly you notice a person in a commercial, but it's not like you think "Look, that person has blond hair, "That is an Asian person," etc.

So basically the same thing as " I don't see race"?
You see it. It just doesn't matter. It's not a conscious thought.

Someone with blonde hair in a commercial is the norm. An interracial or gay couple, for example, is not. A person can applaud a company for using either in their advertising, but obviously still notice when it happens. Being quick to say "I didn't notice!!!" is like saying you don't notice Darius Rucker is a black country singer lol. If it's rare, almost anyone would notice. That's just how it is.
Noticing it is not what the article was about anyway. It was not saying or implying that people were wrong for recognizing an interracial couple in a commercial. It was discussing the ridiculous, disgusting and extremely offensive reactions to it from the YouTube comments section.
i don't want to live in a world where a commercial like this would get people riled up. IT'S FOR BREAKFAST CEREAL. everyone eats breakfast! even people who marry outside their race!
There are different races? News to me, that's how colorblind I am.
the only way i use the word "color" is to describe the joyous experience of seeing a beautiful rainbow of unity break out after a calm springtime rainfall.
