This is INSANE. Why isn't the "nurse" in trouble for lying to the authorities? She comes off as if she was looking to kidnap those children. Why so insistent that they open the car? WTF? I would call a lawyer and press charges against that stupid bitch.
How do you mistake a half hour for 3.5 minutes? No one that dumb could make it through nursing school. I am so sorry.
you underestimate some people/nurses' love for dramatics and being a hero. She's probably not dumb, just a self-important dramawhore. I'm sure in HER version of the story, she was "saving" those kids and just HAD to call cps because the cop wasn't taking it seriously. "think of the children," and all that.

I know this thread is old, but I just wanted to mention that heat isn't the only danger for a child left unattended in a vehicle. Go check out kidsandcars.org and read the stories about kids accidentally strangling themselves to death by (intentionally and unintentionally) tampering with power Windows. There are way too many risks for a child left in a car. Three kids? Horrible idea.
It started Thursday. CPS came Friday morning, Friday afternoon, Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, early this afternoon and called again this evening.
She is not allowed to have the nurses name to report this since the nurse called CPS. Her name was redacted from the police report so she cannot file a complaint, cannot do anything as it will be seen as "retaliation" by CPS. The police cannot speak to my friend about anything with this nurse.

This is what happens when you're under active investigation from CPS and you call them up to bitch them out. Of course they're going to give her a hard time. Again, none of this would have happened if she didn't leave the kids unattended, a fact that many people in the thread have pointed out is ILLEGAL most places. It has then snowballed from her complaining to CPS who were just doing their job. Why did the mother not want to pursue actions against the lying nurse who she thinks landed her in this mess??

yeah. No. I'm not buying any of this. Either something really is going on and you aren't telling us or you are creating mud.

This is highly unusual. What were they calling for this many times?
And for the windows question- she has a van with outward tilting windows with safety locks that the kids haven't mastered, yet.
[br
Wth are outward tilting Windows? Either way, isn't there a chance that she could be underestimating her child's ability to figure out safety locks?
this is like the old school vans where the second row windows didnt roll down, but they would open like 2 inches out with some kind of pinch lock thing.
Also, if the windows were partially open, couldn't that pose a danger if the child decided to try to stick a limb or their head through the gap?
not really, imo. i mean, they could get a nasty pinch on their fingers from the lock thing, but they could *maybe* get their hand out and not much more, if they are like the windows that were on my mom's van when i was a kid.

Yeah. No. So either you are the "friend" (because you know and remember WAY too many details without being involved firsthand ), or only a little bit of this is true, or you're making it all up.
Not me, my friend. It very well could have been me several times, though. We live in a very small town. When venturing to other towns, even where she was I would never dream of it, since I don't know the people there, like I do here. Here we all know eachother. New people rarely move here and it is not a tourist stop, so I have felt ok with it. Obviously no longer.
When I post a response it's usually either something we've talked about or I'm messaging with her. She is still a lurker, but I did encourage her to create a screen name to participate.
Yes, she could definitely be getting backlash from calling CPS and bitching. Her husband thinks the nurse got in trouble (which she doesn't know and did not cause) and that is why CPS is pushing so hard.

Nope, not unusual. Mandated reporters are typically protected and CPS is usually barred by statute from disclosing their identities. I think there are holes in the story, but this ain't one of them.
ETA: assuming that was the part you weren't buying. Probably the part about them checking in 4 times, right?

Wait a fucking minute...you leave your children in a car unattended too? What the ever-loving fuck is wrong with you?

Your friend isn't in trouble because she was in an unfamiliar place. She's in trouble because she left her children alone in a vehicle. Get a grip.
She won't get the name of the nurse unless or until it goes to court.
OP, look I'm not from small town USA. I understand that she could see the car, she was only gone for 3 mins and some change and even the Officer at the scene said he'd do the same thing. However, it's 2013 not the time of live and let live. Your friend left herself open to all this. What you and "her" aren't really getting here is that it's time to lawyer up. Sell crap on eBay, tale a loan or call family but get a lawyer.
For the record, I am the friend she called. I get not wanting to wake kids. Especially when the baby hasn't slept, she called ahead to make sure it was ready, did copay over phone, so it really was in/out. Her baby has been to 3 doctors in a week, wasnt eating/sleeping well for days and baby was thisclose to being hospitalized with breathing problems that day. Mom was frazzled, kids were finally sleeping. She NEEDED the meds before the pharmacy closed. She couldn't call her husband he was at work with no phone service.
The baby was so sick that it was close to being hospitalized with breathing problems? I don't think there is really any circumstance to leave your kid (or multiple children) in a car alone, but a child who is that ill? I most definitely wouldn't be leaving that baby without supervision.
Also, she left the cell phone and things in the van so the oldest had it if needed? The way the story reads, the kids all fell asleep so if the oldest woke up, she would have no idea WHERE the mother had even gone. All sounds incredibly irresponsible.

When I go in the gas station to pay, I am not going to get 3 kids out of the car. Absolutely not. We don't have pay at the pump at the closest station to me. And there is nothing wrong with me other than zero desire to drag 3 kids out of seats and back into them after spending about 45 seconds giving the cashier $20. Especially on the winter when I would have to put coats back on them (since i take them off to strap them in) then take them all back off when I get back in the car. No, thank you.
Nothing in this story makes a whole lot of sense. And you're way too involved in your "friends" business.
She came to me, since I picked up the script on Thursday. Then Friday she asked my opinion about CPS, since I have had dealings with them regarding my older sister (which I think I mentioned prior....). Since this is completely unlike what the investigator did with my sister (same person) I am baffled too.
