Yes- usually "See you later. Be a good girl. Protect the house". I think she understands this means we're leaving and she's not coming. She'll go lay in her bed after hearing that instead of getting all excited that she is going somewhere.
I say "go to your bed". Then she realizes she's not coming with us and then gives the most heartbroken/betrayed look in the world. Then I hate myself for the rest of the day. Ugh.
We tell them to "watch the house". Sometimes we will tell them that one of them is in charge for the day. We vary it up so they don't get jealous, ya know.
"Alright, Babies, Mommy loves you, behave ... or at least try not to be The Absolute Worst Cats Ever today. I know it will be hard, but I have faith in you!" followed by a kiss for each of them over my shoulder.
...and then on my way to the car I mutter to myself "They won't behave"
If I don't say "OK, babies...I'll be back" as I'm walking out the door I don't feel right. And I'll usually tell them where I'm going and about how long I'll be gone as I put on my shoes.
