So first off, the woman in the article is obnoxious and sanctimommy. I have not problem with special diet. I really don't I have no problem making accommodations. I do have a problem people getting all snooty because they think THEIR was is better. It's not. Get over it.
Second, Kosher food is not gross in general. Kosher for Passover convenience food tastes like asshole. Ashkenazi cuisine is pretty much beige and boring. Take out butter or meat and it's just so much what's-the-point. My family is Sephardic. Our food is 1000% better. Also I don't know why on earth a Kosher cake would be so sweet. I have made plenty of cakes that are Kosher for eating with meat (you replace butter with oil.) They taste delicious. Eggs are parve. They're Kosher neutral. You can eat them with anything.
I got suckered into eating Kosher for Passover pasta once.
It's been 15 years.
I'm still bitter.
I did spend a year eating Kosher Chinese food though so I suppose it evens out because that shit is delicious.
Lots of cakes are made with oil instead of butter. Most cake mixes come that way and many of them are kosher. So I'm still really confused as to why that kosher cake did asdfjkl so wrong. I'm going to assume it was a shitty baker, and not the fact that it was kosher. But if I'm asdfjkl, I'd be the same level of bitter as I am over that passover pasta.
I will add that my kids have come home whining how they're "the only ones" who "have" to only bring fruits or veggies for snack at school (imagine that in the whiniest voice ever). Everyone else gets chips and cookies. I'm already that mom because I'm stricter with food than most.
They all say that! Kids are punks. Lol. DD1 has said this to me often. I know her classmates parents, and she is telling me lies. I'm sure there are kids that bring crap, but "the only ones" is classic kid BS
So many kids like fruit and it's so easy to get them to eat it so yeah, I agree that your kids are LYING about no one else bringing fruits or veggies for snack lol

That could well be. I never heard that complaint last year and I know the parents there were very health conscious. It's a new complaint I'm hearing this year lol! I have no idea how health conscious this area is as I haven't really had an opportunity to meet other parents.

I would imagine what's happening is that their best three friends have moms who send dumb shit. There is a certain age where "everyone" turns into "those cool kids right there" and no one else matters.

Ah, that makes perfect sense! I guess we are hitting the "cool kid" age. I never noticed that stuff until my BFF told me in 5th grade she couldn't be seen talking to me in school, but I was notoriously socially oblivious lol!
What the hell his gluten and why is everyone all of the sudden afeared of it?
Well it's from Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated episode #219 "The Devouring" and a villain dressed up as the Gluten Demon to destroy all the restaurants in the town so her restaurant would succeed. It's pretty scary, actually.
ETA: This really was what I found online - the internet has no end and the writers of Scooby Doo have tackled every social ill!

I think that if your kid has a legit allergy or dietary need, there's a good way to handle it. My son is allergic to several things, and my MO is to talk to a party host ahead of time and just say "hey, Babycakes is allergic to some stuff. He knows not to eat it but would it be cool if I brought some alternative snacks for him? Or can I bring some stuff to share with everyone else?"
Regardless of what the dietary issues are, the thing I have a problem with is her self-righteous, my kid eats better than yours but I'm not judging attitude.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

I love that you call him "babycakes." Always makes me smile.

My four-YO already knows that some people, including a classmate or two, can't have gluten. She's not quite clear on what gluten is, though, lol. But she asks if it is in certain foods (like Cheerios) and knows from reading the box that her cinnamon Chex are gluten-free.
I do wonder what the long run will look like both for kids on highly specialized diets and those around them. Will they gluten-and-food-dye binge when they are in college and damn the consequences? Will they outgrow some of the allergies/sensitivities or not? If they're on specific diets because their parents believe them to be 'healthier' rather than because of a diagnosed medical issue, how will they see those choices when they can control their own food intake?
I imagine that there is going to be a ton of story-swapping in college about how restricted their diets are/were when they were young.
I think it's hella cruel to your kids to take them to a party and expect them to have the willpower to not eat something particularly when the only reason they can't is because you don't want them to.
IME half the reason for parties, kids or otherwise, it to eat food I don't normally have. You think I was gonna skip my weight in eating lumpia and those sesame red bean balls because they're not good for me? NOPE. If these parties were an every day thing, I would rethink, but it's like five a year.
The other half is to visit with friends, which I do considerably more often.
And so that's why some people drop off a substitute rather than avoiding the party altogether.
Right. Some kid with a cupcake made of "things those poor unloved kids have never heard of" standing there in a sea of pizza and brightly colored cupcakes.
It would be like walking into a the cheesecake factory with a bran muffin. Except you're 8 with an underdeveloped sense of logic and restraint.
We went to a party where they served GF and SUGAR free "cupcakes" with some kind of avocado "frosting." My kid was three at the time, took one bite and couldn't swallow because it was so nasty. Poor kid didn't know what to do and started crying.
Other kids told he mom," this is not cake!" I almost died laughing.

So I just read this whole thread and am still stuck on the page 2 reply about the FB friend who made a gluten-free, dairy-free, tomato-free pizza. Over here in these parts we just call that "air."

You all have covered most of the assholishness quite well, but lol forever that the party mom said there was tons of cake left because one kid didn't eat any. I am 1000% sure that did not happen.

I'd be willing to bet that's not how it went down. Maybe I'm wrong.
