s/o I was on my local news site reading about a rabid fox, and saw this other local story in the sidebar (then googled and found a daily mail article). *trigger warning* The girl was raped over a decade, by 6 of her brothers, starting when she was 4. Her mother even saw at least one instance of abuse, and walked away. The oldest confessed to someone in the church, who took him to the police. The parents are also being charged. My God, that poor girl. I can't even express the horror I feel that a parent could so willingly condone their child's abuse.
The poor girls. All of them?! He went down the line and touched all of them at some point. Now he has kids of his own!? No one is safe around him and if his wife stays she is a saint. I would want to light his ass on fire.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that, in light of all of this, if you continue to condone and support these people, you also have some pedophile related skeletons in your closet - Huckabee, I'm looking at you.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

No she is not a saint if she stays. She's a foolish idiot exposing her children to the same abuse their aunts suffered.

I don't think she's saintly so much as brainwashed and denied access to the economic and social means to leave. And evidently, her parents knew about what Josh did and still gave the go-ahead on the marriage.
Ok, not to defend the Duggars at all, but there is quite a bit of evidence that shows adolescents who molest have a very low rate of future offenses. Meaning - there is a large difference in adolescents who molest children, often due to other factors, and the pathology of pedophilia. Let me see if I can pull the studies.

Are you serious? They knew. Oh my gosh. It just gets worse.
And I only mean saint in the sense that she is able to forgive him and not look at him as a monster. Because that is where I am.
I'm so scared for Josh's wife, Anna, because I feel like her parents trapped her in this situation, too, & obviously can't be trusted to help her & their 4 kids 'escape'.
Thus, Anna's stuck in this world of total denial pretending that everything is great! I mean, I wonder if she worries about one-on-one interactions. And if she has enough self-esteem & strength to prevent such interactions. I wonder if she has a friend or a sister with whom she can honestly speak re: her concerns? Ugh. Beyond sickening. But my heart does go out to her, even though I'm almost certain she'll stand by her man, despite any reservations to do so
If Arkansas was worth a goddamn, its legislators would be modifying the SOL post-haste. But because Arkansas ain't shit, they will work on TRAP laws and heartbeat bills instead.
I swear if this were just another average American family people would be ready to burn them at the stake.
But it's a TV family! They love Jesus!
Right! I feel like if there were a family of any other color, religion, or both, people would be calling for death. People would be picking up pitch forks and and storming the house for blood. But, no they are white and prayer to god, so all should be forgotten and we should all forgive because god told them he forgave them. Fuck you Duggars and fuck all your followers!

Josh Duggar re-offended multiple times and he has never had any therapy. He was raised in an insular, hypermisogynistic culture that reduces all female-bodied people to forbidden but irresistably tempting sex objects, idealizes women who remain childlike and submissive, and absolves male people of any accountability. This is not the typical "adolescent curiosity" situation.
The SOL that was posted here said 28. All of the sisters are under that age so if these other times were not actually reported...
But they were reported because this is a police report. Â The police didn't do anything in response to this police report because they appear to have taken Jim Bob's word that all crimes were reported to the trooper 3+ years before (or they verified with the trooper who backed JBD's story then). Â It doesn't matter if only one crime was reported to the trooper in 2003 because presumably all were in 2006. Â
Clearly the police department contributed to this mess, and some people should be fired if they are even still there.
That all said, only a moron could believe these were isolated incidents by one kid in 2003 and completely stopped. Â
But it's 2015? Wouldn't that mean we still have a year (or at least 6 months, depending on when in 2006)?
I, also, feel increased sympathy for Josh knowing that he tried on multiple occasions to get help from his parents. There was dysfunction in his upbringing to begin with, and I'm sure it messed with his head all the more to have asked for help and gotten nothing.
Actually, what he probably received from them as a dysfunctional response, as well - likely being shamed, prayed over; the blame cast over sources such as the devil and his sisters... Just speculation, but there was probably nothing psychologically healthy going on there.
But then my sympathy falls short with his attempts to stay in the limelight and place himself in a leadership role. He had to have known by then that he and his family weren't cut out to be models of moral superiority.
I hope there is a morality clause in their contract with TLC so they can sue the shit out of these monsters (and, in turn, if TLC knew about any of this that their sponsors and sue the shit out of TLC and close that shit show down for good).
Hey Jim Bob - you might have to get a real job after all.

Every single thing I read credits the absence of future offenses with therapy. Josh had none. I truly hope this was a desperate kid who wasn't allowed to masterbate and wasn't allowed to be alone with the opposite sex so he found a twisted resource for his natural curiosity. It could honestly be that simple. However, he is still in a culture that treats women as temptresses so, who knows:(

Those poor girls. I'm absolutely sick over this.
In addition to everything that has happened, knowing that your parents prioritized saving their own ass and their brothers over their well being has got to be such a slap in the face. it makes me sick to think of what kind of victim shaming these poor girls have put up with that has not been reported.
This is sort of O/T but what is the point in having statutes of limitations? I mean, if you commit a crime, you commit a crime, should it matter when?
I get the basic idea around it. It is to force the government to do its job promptly. If you wait too long, evidence gets stale and it's harder to guarantee a fair trial. If you leave it wide open, it can be subject to abuse. For example, let's say there is some stupid law on the books that for years, the government decides not to target violators for arrest and prosecution for whatever sort of public policy reason. People should be able to rely on those policy decisions and go on to live their lives without fear of retribution years or decades down the road. Similarly, there's a lot of shit that just becomes inconsequential years later, and it's not worth prosecuting. Plenty of people get into petty crimes as kids and go on to be productive members of society. Nothing is served by being allowed to harass them later. I mean, imagine if there was no statute of limitations on drug crimes, someone could have arrested Bill Clinton for saying he smoked pot years later just to be a total dick.
On the civil side, it creates a lot of uncertainties. Homeowners shouldnt' be expected to wait around for ten years for the dude that broke his ankle on their busted sidewalk to get around to suing. Businesses can't be liable for not paying minimum wage because it creates too many uncertainties, and they can't be expected to hold on to payroll records for decades in case someone decides to go after them. Etc.
So the principle makes sense for lots of things. But more serious crimes - the SOL either needs to be done away with, or extended to a more reasonable time frame.
But they were reported because this is a police report. I'm not following. I thought the SOL was 3 years, not 9.
