This makes me happy and I hope he gets charged. I have some assholes on FB (who hunt, go figure) thinking this is no big deal, and just a first world problem.

Uh. TL;DR?
This is, however, a perfect example of what some of us have been talking about in this thread.

lol I'm not sure if posting an update on Cecil the Lion in a thread about how Cecil the Lion is getting more attention/sympathy than about Sam DuBose is really....I don't know...appropriate? On topic? Aware?
Is this where I admit that I almost fell off the couch laughing when I saw the post after I got over my initial "wow tone deaf" shock?
I'm already on my way to the corner...no one needs to show me the way.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
Even though I'm new here, I knew that wasn't a good move.
And on a more serious note, I need to come back and read the thread when I have time to absorb/reflect more on what's been written. I know it'll be good for me.
I've moved from laughing hysterically at the tone deaf response to severe second hand embarrassment. I'm debating with myself if I should even open this thread anymore. IIOY I know you get me.
For those worried about political stuff impacting employment--are your FB pages not completely locked down from public view? I get it, nothing is safe on the internet, but it would take some commitment for a potential employer to find somebody who knows you in real life and have them stalk your page.
I'm not saying, "YOU MUST START GETTING PUBLICLY POLITICAL NOW!", but I'm just wondering how big of a deal this actually is.
I haven't said that I avoid political stuff on FB, but I still thought I'd comment. My profile is as locked down as it can get. However, I live in a pretty small town, so if I were looking for employment in it, I'd absolutely be careful about what I posted. Further, my field is relatively small. Because of those two things it'd be easy for a potential employer to be a friend of a friend, and therefore notice stuff I post. My first and last names are also very unique, so it's not like they wouldn't know for sure it's me.

I think we're pretty well locked down, but as long as Hs job search has lasted we're just not risking anything right now. Like I said, I know it's chicken shit, but H has been perpetually on the job market waiting for permanent employment for 3 years now, so we're afraid to do anything that might impact his ability to get that.

Having a locked profile does not prevent someone from taking screenshots. And yes, without going into too much detail in my position it could be a problem.
I have been reading this thread and appreciate the dialogue very much. I haven't posted on FB much at all on current events, but I recently changed my newsfeed to show all CEPers and minority news first, and I have unfollowed all of the stupid white people (or unfriended), so I honestly hadn't noticed the sharp disparity.
On a completely side note, and not intending to explain anything, but genuinely interested - do you know if FB filters things in a racist way? That even if many people shared anything at all about #blacklivesmatter, that it won't be actually shared to the masses? I can almost guarantee it's very likely because people aren't sharing those things, but I also wonder if the small minority who are end up being effectively silenced by the weird newsfeed algorithm. I guess I don't trust that the media or companies will be transparent in that way.

I don't know about whether it's racist or anything, but it definitely filters things bizarrely. I will randomly go to someone's page to say happy birthday or share a link and see things that never came across my news feed. It's annoying.
