PennyPenny clarified (and frankly I should have remembered this from my days covering cops years ago) but police are prohibited from speaking to the media etc, only the press officer can do that so there may be and likely are many who are angry about these situations but they can't express that because of those restrictions etc.
I know I don't "go here", but I appreciate this clarification. I, too, have been shocked at how no one from the law enforcement community seems to be speaking up about these deaths. Because if I'm a cop and I know I do my job well, I'm LIVID that this shit keeps happening. I have a couple of friends from HS that are officer wives and they are all #bluelivesmatter all the time. ^o)
For everyone else, thank you for sharing so openly. I know it has to be getting old to keep saying the same stuff over and over and over again.

I will tell you for a fact not all law enforcement agrees with what is going on. And many are speaking out, they just are saying 'I am so and so from XYZ department and I think this.' Because that would lead to a reprimand.
Okay, that makes sense. Thanks again for clarifying.

I'm so sorry. I just noticed the George Bush part and paid no attention to the rest as I googled it quick. I sincerely never meant to hurt anyone. Sorry guys. I suck hard today.
ETA- I'm Canadian, and also really haven't heard much about Sam Dubose in the media. I will certainly read up on it though later tonight. Seriously, so sorry. I really never meant to hurt anyone. I feel awful.
No really, nursewife. You're on this board enough. You really hadn't heard of Sam DuBose? You didn't even read the OP and enough responses to know what you posted about the lion was completely tone deaf and wrong? GWB gif aside, your first post was also tone deaf and completely the wrong post altogether in this thread.

No. I honestly didn't read the post. I saw Cecil in the title, ASSumed it was the lion. I do remember reading a bit about Sam Dubose, but I'm bad with names, and not good at placing who is who together. I was posting and running right before getting the kids out the door. Damn I suck today. I'm so, so sorry guys. I would never, ever indent to hurt, offend, or be rude to anyway. That's not like me at all.

K. So anyway, are you black?
Why did you tell @koko to take her black ass to the ER? Is that like you at all?
To further explain, these are the websites I read the news on. www.ctvnews.ca and cknx.ca . The second one especially never covers international news, only very local news. I honestly don't think I've even seen both of those names on a headline on the sites I read (yes, Canada doesn't cover a lot of the racial issues going on in the U.S. We are blind in a way by what goes on to our southern neighbours). Do you have any reputable sites to read the news besides CNN to recommend? Seriously guys, I feel awful. I would never purposefully post something to hurt or insult someone in that manner. I'm really ashamed right now for not actually reading.

No, I am not black. I do have a black aunt, and her 2 biracial sons. This is how she talks, and how others speak to her (this is her preference, I promise). She's basically the only woman in my extended family I have that I look up to. If that would be something that would offend or hurt her, I would never say it. She has often joked that her sons aren't black (the youngest is blonde as blonde can be, such a good kid). Since my family talks and converses with her in that manner, I honestly never really thought that it could be hurtful. If I knew that, I would certainly have never said it. Since I live in Mennonite country, I honestly don't see many other ethnicities very often. I have just picked up on her joking manner. @koko, I never meant to hurt or offend you. Honestly. You are a poster I love to hear from, and I'd never want you to feel or think I think of you as anything other than another person I talk to on the boards. Your skin colour has absolutely no basis on how I view you. To me, you are a poster with an amazing sense of humour, and have kick ass opinions on lip stick.

I don't think mentioning you have black friends will help you here.
I'm not meaning it in that regards. I'm honestly saying, this is how she converses. She is my only example of how to talk to someone of colour. I honestly don't have experience talking to people of most ethnicities socially (other than patients I've seen). I'm trying to say, from my life experience, that is the only example I have, but I plan to do better now that I know better.

Last time I checked you should speak to people of color or other ethnicities exactly how you would speak to anyone else. Why would you think otherwise?

I'm trying to say that I do. The only reason I'd say that is because I've heard her joke like this, saying to me 'sit your white ass down". It honesty never meant to hurt or insult @koko, but if she's like to talk about it, I'm willing to talk to her about hurting her.

What I've learned from following the race posts on CEP is that if you say/do something racially insensitive, don't explain. There is no explaining. Just say "I'm sorry" and listen to all the people who are saying it's offensive. Really listen. And keep listening. And hear that your position of privilege is what keeps you blind and deaf to all of the offensive things white people say and do towards people of color. Explaining why we do offensive things just adds insult to injury. So please, just stop explaining and LISTEN.

Sorry, but I am DYING right now. Honest to God guffaws. Well, I don't have a single thing to say about any of this, so if this is how you think you and @koko joke, I'm going to leave that between you two. I just hope your Mennonite ass ( kidding) is not walking around trying this with random black people. You might be a few cards short of a deck, but I'd still hate to see you get hurt.

No. I certainly don't trot around always talking like that. I'm sorry for all the guffaws. Damn I suck with words. My post count <------
is evident of my crappy written communication. I seriously suck today.
Plus seriously, where do a lot of you read your news (I know it's not Fox )? I like being informed of current events and read more about international news. Really the only U.S news that's been discussed up here is how much Trump sucks.
Nurse wife - So if you didn't watch the whole gif, what about seeing Dubya made you think it was appropriate to use? What did you think the gif was about?
You don't read the OP, you don't read any of the replies, and you don't pay any attention to the gif's you post??

I live in an area that is also overwhelmingly white. I took the time to educate myself by learning history, watching the news and lurking here to better understand race relations. Ignorance is not an excuse.
And why did you feel the need to clarify he's a good kid?
Also, just in case anyone is tempted to let this thread wind down, can we first please have at least three more people say completely insensitive and/or idiotic things and then follow up with weak and/or insane apologies? Not all of us have Friday night plans, am I right? Thanks, CEP!

hey, DH slept on the couch from 4-6 if that tells you anything about our night! And now we're in bed watching Vacation.

He's 17 years younger than me. I see him more as a nephew than cousin. He's such a sweet kid. I adore that boy.

Honest to god, all you need to do is read this board. Relevant news is linked all.the.time. I am not ashamed that GBCN is my primary news source.
I still don't understand how you didn't read the thread or title and didn't look at the gif you linked.
I hate using this 'excuse' as it's pretty cliche. I tried to GBCN while I was trying to get some e-mails and forms e-mailed while having my twins bouncing around wanting to go swim. Lesson learned. Don't glance and post.
sfy shall I describe to you a conversation I had today with my language instructor talking about how black people generally are poor and aren't educated enough?
Gah. I wanted the floor to swallow me.
Truly I dont think he intended offense. I think he likely views it as a statement of fact that in general the are more barriers to education and wealth accumulation for poc. Like when they ask me to describe my instructor they expect me to literally say yellow skin and Asian eyes, and I'm trying to describe her mannerisms or education. But, damn, awkward (understatement)

nursewife - you seem earnest and like you really don't want to offend. I think you need to pay attention to what people are saying when they tell you to listen.

Why would you respond with a gif at all after people's reaction to your first post? I mean, there you are just sooo busy checking the forum on the go yet you managed to offend and blow off people with trivial, insensitive gif that you'd have to...oh, I don't know, look up, review, get the url, copy it, paste it into the response, make sure you've coded it properly, then hit submit.
Sounds like more work than quick reply (like, you know, the freaking "quick reply" box), "wow, so sorry, didn't read the thread and realize."
