IME there's often perks for volunteers and that includes waived (or discounte) fees. Not all, and obviously depends on the race. Regardless though, I'm including all fees into my estimation for this adventure.
You don't get to do a long, drawn out, exorbitant lie where you try to get us to believe you all a world-class runner, and then try to talk about running again.

Oh geez. I forgot about that drama.
Lol. I'm averaging like a 15 minutes mile. If I can get to 10 over the course of a year, I'll be happy.
And for real, it's time to move on. I misspoke about an experience in Jr high. Let's hold that over my head for eternity.
I don't have a ton of advice but recently met a couple walking by my office and struck up a conversation when they asked a question. They are both retired in their 60s and they travel all over doing 5Ks to see the world. They do 5-10 a year and stay for varying amounts of time in each place. I work in a historic town, hence their visit there. I thought it was such a great, active, healthy retirement plan!
So, great idea to do this for yearly travel plans too! I'm a 'run to drink' type of person and would be looking into vineyard ones in different areas.

Omg. I didn't even think of running to drink! We have lots of those locally here so I should explore that. The one I mentioned in Kentucky is a drinking one.
I definitely agree.....seems like a fun reason to travel and stay in shape.
Y'all are nuts for holding on to stupid stuff that's literally 5 years old.
Lol. I can't image holding onto something someone you don't even know said so long ago. Man, I hardly remember the conversations I had over the weekend with actual friends.
One of my local running club used to waive the fee if you volunteered three times, but they only let you use the waiver on smaller races. (Not 1/2 or 10 mile races)
I've never heard of races waiving your fee to if you volunteer, especially with the big ones you're talking about.
The Green Bay marathon and half are in May and you'd probably have fun with that. You run through Lambeau right before the finish.
Yes, GB will be amazing.
Regardless if feed aren't waived, I'll still go. I know it's an option for certain races and where it's not I'll try and work my magic, and I'm willing to pay if it doesn't work out.
Just simply thinking of ways to save on costs where I can.

Oh that reminds me I wanted to look into a running club here. I know the membership covers some 5k.
I'll likely only do 1-3 10k races, 13 miles really intimates me and I really hate running. Lol. I like medals though and goals.

RunDisney races tend to sell out within 24 hours of them going on sale. Even the pre-sale for DVC members sells out within an hour or so. And Disney races are expensive! My mom does the 10K for the Tinkerbell and Star Wars and the race fee is insane compared to other races.
One thing to consider is the weather in the locations you will be running. I know that the Disney World Half Marathon in Orlando this past January was insanely cold (low 30s one morning) and that runners had to deal with patches of ice on some parts of the course.
Road Runner Sports is local and they do have a warehouse sale during the year and they also have a clearance outlet. You should be able to get some discounted gear to save a few $$.

Thanks. I know I'm late for Disneyland races but I will do a race at Disneyland some point in the near future. Lol.
I've got connections at RRS so I'm hooked up with a very awesome discount. Yay for new running shoes!
Eta - weather is something I forgot. I'm so used to perfect weather more often than not. Will add weather to my spreadsheet.
We travel all over the country for races. It is very expensive. We usually run half marathons or fulls to make it worth it. Although, Mr. Kirkette is running a 10k in Denver in about a week and a half.
I think Disneyland Paris Half opens tomorrow or Wednesday. They just sent me an email this morning.
Are there specific questions you have about this? Hotel and airfare are usually the most expensive items. Other things you need to consider are getting in early to get to packet pick up. Race day transportion to and from the course, and ground transportation in a new city.
Yes, I'm asking about the specific details regarding traveling to races.
I know it will be expensive, but that's not a concern, travel costs money.
I completely forgot about race packet pickups, so adding that to the mix. And to make sure all cities I plan to visit have lyft or uber + stay within 10 miles of the race location.

Healdsburg, CA has a great half in October and the post race party was a free wine tasting. I think there's a similar one in Oregon that's I've looked into.
Are you a Packers fan? If not, I'd skip the Green Bay one. Green Bay doesn't have much to offer that would be worth traveling for (IMO). But if you're a Packer fan then never mind.

Do you not read my responses / the thread before being snarky.
I'm still studying abroad. And as mentioned in the Europe thread, I haven't determined if it's 3 or 6 months.
Also, even if I'm abroad for 6 months I can still travel for races. It's not one or the other.
But thanks for so always bringing the snark. I know you get some twisted pleasure out of it.
It's sad that you can't see how absolutely full of shit you are.
Lol. Um...Okay. Because we're friends and you see what I do day in and day out.
You see how I take the advice from my threads and apply them irl, you see the countless hours of research that goes into a potential new adventure or project, you see my MM figures change and grow, you see how much I've overcome and changed to get to the point I'm at now, you've seen how I've picked myself (often without help) from ground zero.
No, you (and others on this board like you) only see and continue to see the worst. You jump into my threads to be snarky and hateful. You fail to see any growth, change, or anything positive.
And that's your prerogative. I'm going to be over here planning adventures for 2016 and beyond.
