I just don't see how he keeps any credibility as a tough guy who can stand up to Putin and all the other bullshit he has spewed if he's too scared to face Megyn Kelly.
I'm back to thinking his candidacy is one big practical joke.
I saw a clip when Bill O'Reilly was calling him out for his craziness! Now that's BAD! He basically said "forgive and forget the journalists who are trying to get you down. Go out and do your job anyway!" Then Trump said "the Bible also says an eye for an eye" & O'Reilly yelled, "That's OLD TESTAMENT!!" LOL (My paraphrasing may be WAY off...I was semi-watching the clip while I was getting a pedicure.)
I agree...if you can't participate in a debate because it's not "fair" how are you going to deal with...anything a President does?!? I also don't think the "eye for an eye" will get you far in International Relations (or anything else, for that matter).
Apparently Cher (I know. whut?) called him out via twitter along th esame lines. Something like, "So you're going to 'kick ISIS's ass' when you can't face a woman on TV who's mean to you.

When he doesn't show up, he gets more press. The crazies think he's standing up for what he believes is right, and somehow people think that all equals what a good president will do.
Sadly, if this isn't the ultimate "gotcha" (his campaign) then I think Trump said it himself - his supporters would continue to support him even if he shot someone in Times Square.
(And I really hope this entire campaign is a joke/satire)
What I've come to realize over the past few months is that he thinks he can win because there are enough awful, racist, mysoginist, bigoted people that totes agree wth him. We are living in a land of Trumps with slightly better hair. This election has made me lose hope in humanity.

It drives me nuts when people say they think it's a joke.
This is no joke, friends. He is first on the Republican leaderboard. There are a ton of racist wingnut crazies out there who are eating his shit up with a spoon and the worse he gets, the more they scuttle out of the woodwork. And they will be voting.
Y'all need to be paying attention to Cruz, too. He's also scary batshit, but quieter so while he isn't garnering the overt enthusiasm Trump is, he's nonetheless doing well. If he gets the nomination, you'd best hope he starts acting as much a crazy douchebag as Trump is, because otherwise he stands a good chance of sauntering off with a win. And then you can kiss goodbye the right to choose, affirmative action, marriage for all, and the healthcare act, to name just a few.
This next president will likely be replacing three Supreme Court Justices as they retire, including RBG, so people really need to make sure they're taking it seriously and get out and vote.

while I've said I hope it's a joke, that doesn't mean I'm taking this seriously and that I'm not going to vote. As We see all these right wing nuts coming out, I'm hoping that this will be matched by more and more dems getting out to vote too.
This is scary and I think everyone recognizes that.

I know everyone here is.
But the larger population isn't. And frankly it scares the shit out of me.

He would never win the general election. It wouldn't happen.
I can laugh because it's the Republican primary - it has no bearing on me - I'm a democrat.

I remember the day I went from, "watching the Trump campaign is awesome and hilarious in a Sarah Palin kinda way" to "oh shit!!!"

You're deluding yourself if you think he can't win.
If Bernie Sanders gets the nomination, we will have a Republican for president.
I'm hoping Trump supporters are like the idiots who comment on online articles. Highly opinionated, very loud, extreme idiots...but no actual action behind their words when push comes to shove. You often don't hear reasonable people saying/doing anything to stop them because it's not worth the energy. I live in the Bible Belt & know MANY strong Republicans...not one of them is a Trump supporter (or even anywhere close to it). I hope those people start showing up as this process moves along.
What I fear is that if he ends up getting the nomination (terrifying!), that Republicans who strongly dislike him will not choose inaction (not voting) instead of voting against him.

The only GOP candidate that worried me, as a Democrat, was Chris Christie because he was moderate enough to potentially pull a win in a blue state or a swing state.

I'm more worried about Cruz than Trump. They are both scary with their beliefs, but with Trump I think some of it is putting on a show to get the crazy votes. Cruz I fear is truly 1000% invested into this insanity. Either way, two completely out of touch candidates. I don't think that either will win the presidency, but the fact that they are this far along is super scary.
I had a conversation with a Trump supporter last night Her reasons for supporting him don't even make any sense and she doesn't think a woman should be president because other countries wouldn't respect a woman president :/

YUUUUUPP!
The Washington post had a great article about how a trump administration would treat female staffers and heads of state. How intelligence agencies and corporations and organizations that do any kind of business at the federal level would have to either worry about the appearance of the women the send to interract with the president or keep women out of those positions. About how Trump could cite dissatisfaction with a woman's outfit for the reason he rejects her work or any information she has to share with him that he doesn't like. The whole thing was really awful. The only woman he has mentioned being near a cabinet position is Palin!

Did you remind her that England is talking about banning Trump from ever entering the country again?
I mean, LOL. Trump sure as hell isn't going to garner respect AND he'll also insult other leaders/countries while he's at it.
It truly stuns me how people have jumped on his bandwagon. "He speaks the truth!!". "He's honest!!". Um... A- who's truth? B- you like that kind of honesty??

It's all about the electoral college.
Yes, I understand how the electoral college works.

Lol
UWR understands this shit better than any of us
And yes. If Trump wins the nom and people think dems have it in the bag and don't vote....then that's how we end up with a batshit crazy prez.

I didn't mean for that to come across as that you didn't know...it was meant to be heard more like "it's all about the Benjamin's" kind of thing.
Maybe I'm lulled into a false sense of security but I just don't see Trump as a truly viable threat. I have some confidence in the democrats abilities to get out the vote and raise tons of $$...and I just can't envision Trump winning anywhere in the Northeast or winning on the West coast in a general election.
Yes - he may win in the traditionally red states...but I don't see him being a threat, even *if* Bernie Sanders somehow managed to win the democratic primary (which I also don't see happening)

I've been saying Cruz and Rubio were the worst two for a long time. The way you wrote it out above somehow manages to make it more scary, which I didn't think was possible

Instead of hurting Trump, not showing up could end up helping him. The pundits talked about how he could hurt himself by showing up--debates aren't his forte. Not attending makes him less vulnerable and appeals to those who like his contrarian (racist and inflammatory) positions and statements.
Please please please let this hurt his polling numbers
Everything I have heard this morning says that skipping the debate made him stronger. He held a fundraiser for war veterans instead (that Huckabee and Santorum showed up at too! WTF!) and raised like 6 million dollars.
The worst part of business travel this year has been hearing about Trump NONSTOP on airport TVs all the damn time. If the media could maybe shut up about Trump for 5 minutes, he wouldn't be taken as seriously.
