I'm on the SE side of Houston and there is a good chance we will get more than 20 inches of rain over several days. It's going to be a big mess, but hopefully the winds here won't be strong enough to knock out power.
North of Houston, so not really worried for us, but very worried for coastal places. We were fortunate enough buy a house on a hill with a natural gas generator. Best money we've ever spent. After being in SE Texas for Hurricane Rita, Ike and like 5 or 6 other minor storms plus our area flooding in San Antonio, certain things were on our house must-have list this time around.
Be safe everyone because this looks like a shitty, slow-moving rainmaker. TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.

I'm a little nervous, mostly because we have a newborn on formula AND a med that needs to be refrigerated. Hopefully the power stays on. Flooding REALLY freaks me out, but hopefully the worst of it will be over the weekend so we can just hunker down and stay inside.

I imagine the flooding in Houston is going to be ugly, really ugly. My bff is a nurse just outside of Houston and she will be at work from the beginning until the end of the storm. She's already packed, preped and ready to go. I told her that at least she can make some awesome overtime.
Pom I believe that it is a cat 1 but is expected to intensify rapidly over the next 24 hours.
Yeah, I just saw that update. Jeez. It's really massive and lots of places are already saturated.
Not really, though I should be. The flooding is gonna suck, though Houston will be a million times worse. Flooding freaks me out, especially since I'm in a bunch of hills, but I'm hoping things will end quickly once it hits land and I don't have to worry about my power going out. I think my area is projected to possibly get 10 inches, hopefully the Category 3 prediction is wrong.

We are in Conroe and have guest rooms if you need us, PM.
Ugh. My long planned girls weekend to Galveston was supposed to start tonight. We should be okay with flooding - just cannot leave the house is all. Hope the wind isn't too bad.

Well I bought 6 bottles of wine at HEB yesterday for 20% off! We really need the rain so I welcome that, but not the 12"-20" that is projected. We don't live in Houston but Dh is scheduled to fly in IAH tomorrow night and it's already looking like his flight will be cancelled. It could be a big mess. I hope everyone stays safe and dry! I'm going to make another trip to HEB today to get what I need for the weekend. And my plan is to clean out some closets. We rarely lose power; fingers crossed that stays the case!

I am currently in NJ and was supposed to fly back to IAH Saturday afternoon. I changed my flight to Friday afternoon and am worried it will be cancelled. I hope it isn't - I want to get back to my kitty before the storm really hits.
I am in West Houston - parts of Westheimer & Richmond flood near me. I don't want to lose power.

I'm in the SA area. We've already canceled the first day of school. We (inlaws) have a beach house in Rockport. My mil picked everything thing going up and got the house ready before she came home. They said we are expected to get 15-30 inches here.

We're way on the west side of Houston, but H just called to let me know that his cousin and family are evacuating from closer to the coast and are going to ride it out at our house.
Guess this means I'm headed back to the grocery store tonight because I only shopped for 2!
DH's family is in Corpus, but are thinking of driving to stay with family in Austin. Hopefully things won't be as bad as they say.
The storm surge is supposed to be 6-10ft in Corpus.
Ugh, his brother just moved into a new house so they don't know if it floods or not, but they aren't far from the bay, but as far as I know they aren't evacuating yet (either is his dad). His aunt and uncle were just issued mandatory evac orders (san Patricio county) so they are leaving for Austin.
I hope this thing falls apart somehow. Doesn't look good! We are in the NW area of Houston. I think we will be okay but our area hasn't had the rain total this is projected to have so...we will see.
I went to HEB yesterday and stocked up on water, wine, beer, and chocolate. All the essentials, lol! We have a gas grill so if we lose power we can atleast heat up water and grill meat. I have total PTSD from Hurricane Ike where we lost power for 17 days so I am slightly panicky.

Could you buy a Yeti cooler and make sure you have ice/ice packs? Just in case?
We are in DFW so no worries. My parents are in the Houston area and are stocked up with supplies. Luckily if there is a power outage they are one of the first to get power back because they live right near the fire station and water treatment plant. During Ike all their friends were coming over to shower and charge their phones because they only lost power for part of a day.

I'm in far west Houston as well and work in the Galleria area. As of now we are open tomorrow, but we are playing it by ear as of what time to close. The stores were out of water and a lot of stuff when I went last night. I have to get gas after work and see if I can find more wine cause what I bought will most likely NOT be enough. DD has her Welcome days at college starting today and I hate that they are going to most likely have to cancel a lot of it.

I am in central Houston. We went to the store last night and it was pretty cleaned out already. Thankfully we have about 30 gallons of water stored in our closet. I have zero idea what to buy when it comes to "non perishable" items. DH and I walked aimlessly around the store yesterday because we didn't know what to get.
I believe I will be fine in North Houston. To find difficult items try alternative stores. My husband got out water at the gas station, during Ike my best friend got her batteries at one of the Adult Toy Stores. Bread can often be found at the gas station as well. HEB will continue to get trucks until they have to shut down the supply chain, but once the insane traffic starts they can't predict the frequency.
