Two decades ago, the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein invited Ashley Judd to the Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel for what the young actress expected to be a business breakfast meeting. Instead, he had her sent up to his room, where he appeared in a bathrobe and asked if he could give her a massage or she could watch him shower, she recalled in an interview.
“How do I get out of the room as fast as possible without alienating Harvey Weinstein?” Ms. Judd said she remembers thinking.
In 2014, Mr. Weinstein invited Emily Nestor, who had worked just one day as a temporary employee, to the same hotel and made another offer: If she accepted his sexual advances, he would boost her career, according to accounts she provided to colleagues who sent them to Weinstein Company executives. The following year, once again at the Peninsula, a female assistant said Mr. Weinstein badgered her into giving him a massage while he was naked, leaving her “crying and very distraught,” wrote a colleague, Lauren O’Connor, in a searing memo asserting sexual harassment and other misconduct by their boss.

These allegations have been around in blind items and such for awhile, right? I thought there were also rumors surrounding his treatment of Gretchen Mol.
Hey asshole, my husband came of age in the 60s and 70s too. So did a million other guys still alive today. They don't greet women at the door in bathrobes or insist on naked massages "and I'll make you famous." That's an asshole "I have the power and you don't" move, not an "I grew up in the 70s" move. A LOT of the jerks you grew up with in the 60s and 70s actually DID grow up. You merely became a bigger and more misogynistic and abusive asshole. That's not a "growing" thing. You're 60 years old. You shouldn't require a tutorial on how to keep your pecker in your pants.

Huh. So 2014 is definitely more than 10 years ago, right? Since he decided to begin his campaign to "better" himself then? Besides his grasp on actual facts being in question, it's just so...disjointed. Like he can't figure out the words to describe how shitty his actual actions were, so he's going to channel his rage taking on the NRA? It doesn't take a team of people to not be an asshole. Just don't ask women to trade sex for help with their careers. Only ask women you are actually dating to bed. It's not that hard.

I didn’t realize this wasn’t known known already. Or maybe the blinds were so obvious I thought it was simply stated. He’s beyond gross.
Years ago I ended up at a party at his (or maybe his brother’s) former apartment. Whichever one of them owned it and had simply given it to their sister-in-law. I went to the party basically just to see the apartment (which rally want all that awesome).
Yeah this is one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood. Maybe he'll finally get his.
I do wonder if there's any sort of real marriage between him and Georgina Chapman. I can't imagine there is.
No way. 100% business. He gets a beautiful wife and the appearance of a family man, and she gets A level actresses contractually obligated to wear her pretty pretty princess dresses.

Did you guys read Rebecca Traister's story about Harvey Weinstein? Craziness. Glad to see this guy is finally going down.
"After Weinstein failed to respond to my calls for comment, I was sent, on Election Eve 2000, to cover a book party he was hosting, along with my colleague Andrew Goldman. Weinstein didn’t like my question about O, there was an altercation; though the recording has alas been lost to time, I recall that he called me a cunt and declared that he was glad he was the “fucking sheriff of this fucking lawless piece-of-shit town.” When my colleague Andrew (who was also then my boyfriend) intervened, first calming him down and then trying to extract an apology, Weinstein went nuclear, pushing Andrew down a set of steps inside the Tribeca Grand — knocking him over with such force that his tape recorder hit a woman, who suffered long-term injury — and dragging Andrew, in a headlock, onto Sixth Avenue.
Such was the power of Harvey Weinstein in 2000 that despite the dozens of camera flashes that went off on that sidewalk that night, capturing the sight of an enormously famous film executive trying to pound in the head of a young newspaper reporter, I have never once seen a photo. Back then, Harvey could spin — or suppress — anything; there were so many journalists on his payroll, working as consultants on movie projects, or as screenwriters, or for his magazine."
It's really all so gross. Everyone must have known about this creep for decades, yet here they are, star after star, pol after pol, kissing his ass and posing for pretty pictures.
I’m also fed up with all these assholes (Don Fucking Jr, Sean Fucking Spicer, Chris Fucking Cillizza —why does he still have a job??, Ronna Fucking Romney McDaniel) trying to unironically create a scandal about Hillary not making an immediate public statement about this. I am in no mood for their bullshit.

A former NYT reporter is claiming that Matt Damon and Russell Crowe helped Weinstein shut down her expose on him in 2004. Both called her directly and vouched for the employee who was hired to procure women for Weinstein. She had people who were willing to go on the record to say that this man had no film experience when he was hired and that he did other things for Weinstein, like organizing an evening with Russian escorts, but the Times shut it down based on all the pressure they were receiving. I think a lot of A listers are going to be tarred with this before it's over.

Meryl Streep spoke out against him:
“The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed, and those whose good and worthy causes he supported. The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes.
One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally. I didn’t know about these other offenses: I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts. And If everybody knew, I don’t believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it.
The behavior is inexcusable, but the abuse of power familiar. Each brave voice that is raised, heard and credited by our watchdog media will ultimately change the game.”
I hate to say this but I find it hard to believe she never heard these rumors. It might be more accurate to say that she never came across definitive evidence but with so many less connected people saying Weinstein's rage issues and treatment of women were an open secret, how is it possible that one of the industry's most celebrated and continuously working actresses never heard them?
I never knew anything specific about Weinstein other than a general "all men in Hollywood suck" kinda thing. No wonder the movie industry is tanking. The men are running it into the ground.

I read a piece that speculated he was the man who raped Rose McGowan back when she tweeted about it in 2016 (she said her ex sold their movie to her rapist - she had been in a relationship with director Robert Rodriguez and she starred in his 2007 film Grindhouse. The movie was distributed by Dimension Films, an independent label owned by the Weinstein Company). She can't come out and say it outright because she signed a NDA when she settled but she is definitely indicating it is him on her Twitter. The photo she posted of herself in 1997, the year she was raped, is so sad. I'm glad to see she is also slamming all the people who knew and looked the other way as being complicit.
I swear I remember a story from several years ago when a young model accused him and it was all over the news. How do these Hollywood people claim not to have known? He's a monster and I'm glad this is blowing up.
I'm with y'all who don't believe Meryl when she says she didn't know or at least never heard this. This is the queen of Hollywood who is trying really hard to make sure none of this dirt is touching her.
I think it's likely there are people who actively shielded Harvey and knew what he did. I think it's equally likely that he knew what face to show certain people. He would only prey on women who were in weaker positions. Meryl was probably already secure and powerful before he became someone to reckon with.
Which is not to say she never knew a thing or didn't hear things about him - I'm sure she did. But no doubt he made t easy to dismiss things said about him by only preying on women who didn't have any power of their own. I imagine he's disgusting not completely stupid.

Michelle Obama called Weinstein a "wonderful human being" and Malia interned with his production company, didn't she? I kind of hope his behavior was hidden better than it seems vs MO and BO turning a blind eye if they knew.

I know. It seems crazy that they would "let" their daughter intern there knowing the rumor. But I also find it hard to believe that one of the most celebrity connected presidents would not have been given a heads up about this. The world can be such a depressing place.

Yikes I read that Malia interned there but not that she said this.
