I'm still reading Ronan Farrow's article, but story from Asia Argento (who in a weird twist went on to have an on/off relationship with HW for 5 years) is so, so sad. I feel awful for her.

Oh my gosh. I can't believe Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are trying to say that they didn't know about Weinstein's actions. So, Ben's girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow, never once mentioned anything about her experiences with Ben's buddy Harvey? And Ben never mentioned it to his BFF? Such bullshit. I saw Rose McGowan's tweet saying that she and Bren Affleck had a conversation about her rape. I don't know why I'm surprised, look at their non-reactions to the Casey allegations.
I think the more I read the more you can get at what George said. Likely he knew that Harvey harassed Gwyneth but she said no (just based on his social circle and who he did movies with in that time period makes me think he definitely knew that story). And he seems to say not knowing Harvey didn't take no for an answer seems to be the key there. I kind of feel like the Gwyneth thing being common knowledge probably added to the hill his other victims had to climb. She said no and still worked with him so clearly (sarcasm) it wasn't required. Never mind that most of his victims were much less connected and powerful. But it seems to imply Harvey did know the meaning of NO, which George specifically mentions. It sounds like Rose McGowan was also fairly open about her experience but people dismissed it?
Lainey also pointed out today how vindictive Harvey is known to be and how people probably took into consideration what he might have on them.

I’m equally outraged/ sickened. Not as much re: Affleck (because I didn’t expect much🙄) but Matt?! C’mon man! I’m so disgusted by the measures these ppl are now using trying to cover their own asses. WE KNOW YOU KNEW! Now do the right thing, apologize, stick your tail between your legs, & from now on: If you see/ hear something, SAY something!!!

Matt Damon called the NYT to block a story about HW in 2004. He knew and supported him.

Exactly. Of course, he is saying that he wasn't asked about the allegations just about the guy who was the head of Miramax Italy and his experiences with him in a "30 second conversation" with the reporter. Lying liar who lies. And don't bring up your daughters, Matt, when lying through your teeth, either.
Brad Pitt. Matt Damon. George Clooney. All men whose careers likely would have stood up through them speaking out about Weinstein years ago and they didn't - and even apparently helped keep it quiet in Damon's case?
And the media fixated on getting Hillary Clinton to condemn his behavior.

His PR also knew this story was going to break and had E! run a puff piece on how "perfect" he is the day before. Trash.

Yeah, that's a real fucking problem.
Maybe now. Maybe in 2005. But Good Will Hunting came out in 1998 and Damon and Affleck were nobodies before that. And I think that was an indie movie (maybe released by Weinstein? Can't remember).
George was on ER from 94-99 and hit the A list after that.
I guess my point is that at one point Weinstein was a lot more powerful than they were so depending on what they knew and when it might not be fair to expect them to have done more.
I don't know. I think they should have (Damon especially if he really did squash a story) but at the same time I think we are looking at some of this from the perspective of now and their career vs the reality and the peak of Weinstein's power and what they knew.
At the end of the day they are all complicit in some way and all are certainly more complicit than HRC. But even though I'm engaging in it too, I think blaming the names we know is missing the really guilty and the biggest villains - Harvey and the people at his company and agents who even send Gwyneth paltrow to meet with a producer at a hotel and look the other way.

I definitely get what you’re saying, even though I completely hate to throw even a crumb of sympathy toward their complicit actions, UGH! I know it’s way too late to have any impact at all, but must admit I kinda wanna know where they stand now? Are they sorrowful & completely regretful or are we gonna get a publicist/agent’s statement of how they were unaware, blah, blah, Puke. The only way I’ll ever forgive is if we get some honesty* at this point. *which I realize could be a made-up, bullshit-full-of-idealism dream

He was EP on Goodwill Hunting, Project Greenlight, and The Brothers Grimm so that's why Damon is sticking up for him. In 2013 he was EP of August: Osage County which Cloony was a producer on. So well after he was A-list. He is EP on all Tarantino movies, so Inglorious Basterds well after Brad was A-list.
You're right that Harvey is the biggest villain here, but the reason these people are so bold and prevalent is because people keep fucking working with them. Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Johnny Depp, Casey Afflek, Mark Walburg, Bryan Singer, there are MANY more. Still working with the biggest stars and directors.
ETA: Cate Blanchette, Colin Firth, Joaquin Phoenix, Steve Carrel, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Kate Winslet, Justin Timberlake, Jude Law, Liev Schriber, These people have solid careers without Woody Allen but they still fucking CHOOSE to work with him.
I certainly blame Harvey for the actions. My disgust is at the media pointing fingers at women like HRC and Michelle Obama for not rushing out with condemnation when the chances are good they knew less than Clooney, Pitt, and Damon...who all have been A-list for close to 20 years or more now. I know the Right Wing is trying to push an anti-Dem narrative but I saw articles on CNN and other sites, too, with regards to Clinton and Obama.
Yeah I think there is a fine line here. Weinstein abused these women. The people who took the women to his office or set up the meetings or arranged for the payoffs are also culpable. And yes, some of these big Hollywood players - if they knew at all about this - are to blame. Brad Pitt was not without power in LA. And I’m sure a lot more of them knew. Everyone who kept their mouth shut and continued to work with him shares some of the blame. (I am not including any victims in that because I don’t blame any victim at all).
I don’t think I am wording this well, but I think it is possible to go too far on the side of “well what could anyone dooooo.” A lot of people let Weinstein get away with this, in a lot of different ways.
I guess part of my issues is the intense focus of WHO KNEW right now. I mean it's important but the company and agencies and agents are way more involved at the points when he was taking advantage ESP when it comes to power and getting projects made. But because we know the names and can demand statements from actors and actresses that's a lot of the focus right now.
But it's going to be another producer or Hollywood honcho next time and the real gatekeepers - in my mind - continue to get a pass because no one knows who the hell they are. It doesn't matter a bit if Clooney or Damon or whoever is like I won't work with X if agencies are still sending vulnerable actors and actresses to those who will take advantage. I just think we place a lot of power on the faces we know when the reality of Hollywood is that the people with the real power are behind the scenes and production companies. It's changing because of streaming and technology but it's still a huge power center.

And of course fucking Scarborough is lamenting why these famous actresses didn’t come out sooner. Gee, maybe because Weinstein has enough money to sue then and drag their name through the mud and get them blacklisted OH YEAH AND OUR SOCIETY DOESNT BELIEVE SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS.

IMHO it's utter insanity to focus on what Clinton and Obama knew when we have an admitted harasser in the White House.
I've been one of the most skeptical on here about Streep's statement but I find it believable that the Clintons and Obamas didn't know much beyond hearing of a pervy reputation which a lot of producers have (and let's face it: a lot of Washington insiders too!).

Whoa, Rose McGowan is accusing Ben Affleck of lying in his statement and says they talked about the fact that Harvey assaulted her.
“‘GODDAMNIT! I TOLD HIM TO STOP DOING THAT’ you said that to my face,” Ms. McGowan wrote in the tweet. “The press conf I was made to go to after assault. You lie.”
I really don't know how anyone, no matter how famous wouldn't have heard the rumors. I've been hearing them since around '99 when I was a college student in Md so surely people in the industry knew. I admit I am a film/tv trivia type person but I certainly have never been privy to inside knowledge of any kind. It's been an open secret for decades.
His brother also had some allegations made against him by his wife a while back after their separation. I'm sure he knew what was going on with Harvey--he basically just does Dimension films but they are/were business partners.

I saw that last night. This is why I have such a hard time believing any of these deniers. And how could Afflek even make his statement when he stood by his brother?
