I live across the street from the bus stop so.... yeah, no driving! There are actually 2 families who live far enough away that I wouldn't blame them for driving to the stop and they don't.
My judgements - my brother. He's a diagnosed sociopath so I realize that how he is is how he is. But damn. He's dating a new girl - been on 4 or 5 dates. He can't tell my mother what she does for a living because they've decided that to ask each other questions without knowing each other and not knowing if they may be too prying is disrespectful. So they are just learning about each other "organically".
Asking "What do you do for a living?" being disrespectful is truly a new one.
I was listening to an etiquette podcast and someone wrote in that they hate when people on dating sites contact them and want to talk about their work as small talk, because it's not interesting. Apparently, it's also kind of gauche to talk about your work in Europe. It's too much like prying into your financial status.
Not just in Europe. My husband deals with people of high wealth a lot and it's definitely frowned upon to ask they what they do because it's the equivalent of asking how they got their money. He says some of the guys will even answer with "drug dealer" or "money laundering" if they have a sense of humor. (This is not in a work place setting, he has an expensive hobby that wealthy people tend to have also)
I'm judging my sister who is two years older than me. She complains on FB that it is so tough being a single parent but I don't consider her a single parent when she 1. allowed her ex to legally give up custody but won't tell us that and 2. lives at home with my parents that help her out ALL the freaking time. She is such a drama queen and her friends feed into her. One of these days I really want to just tell her that she is not a single parent and to suck it up buttercup.
I'm also judging myself. I had a little health issue on Friday and now I'm overly paranoid about everything especially since I'm feeling a little off today.
Wait...What? She can't force someone to parent a child. If he wanted to give up custody it doesn't mean she "allowed it". It's probably her only choice or the better option.
I feel like maybe there's more to this story because based off of these facts it seems a little extreme to be judging her. Seems to me she is in fact a single parent. She may have a good support system, but....still a single parent.
Sorry about the health issue.
She signed off allowing him to give up his parental rights but your right there is more to the story which doesn't change the way I'm feeling right now about her complaining.
My neighbors drive their kids to the bus stop too. And one meets the bus and walks them home when it’s like 50’ away. Crazy to me. Then my middle schooler is in 8th at a new school (in the “safest” town in my state) in the suburbs and we had to sign her out of the school dance! She’s been to several in the inner city where there is actually sketchy people around and never had to sign anyone out. This is a 14yr old. The new school is over the top helicopter in every way...signing tests, have to go inside & sign out middle schoolers when it’s bad weather, etc. Also my Kindergarten has daily homework which is insane.
Last I’m judging my ILs who bought 2 puppies after finding out they were pg again. I wouldn’t care if they took proper care of their house, animals and other child...but they don’t.
I’m judging an old college friend who owns more than 10 cats. She frequently refers to herself as a single parent and a “special needs mom” because one of her cats has diabetes.
No autocorrect. Font = Member and/or Poster on other message boards. You seem lovely.
I’m gonna need some receipts here. Like some other message board made this up? If yes why would you use it here?
You need receipts? lol. Font is a commonly used term on an international message board that I have been a part of for several years. I honestly had no idea it would cause this kind of controversy and confusion. I will use the term poster since font is a foreign term here.
I am judging my dog. He rolled in something outside.
I just took him to the vet Monday, he seems to have a heart issue. I'm looking up cardio vets so he can get an EKG. Whatever is the matter with him is making him cold so I've been putting a sweater on him when he's shivering for good measure, I'm getting a bunch of fleece blankets this weekend since he seems to like those best.
Like dang dude, the least you could do in return is not purposely roll in shit.
I'm judging my DH. He threw a small hissy fit over me putting a dog bed in our dining room (in a corner that is not seen). This is where our new dog has decided he likes to sleep when he's not crated, so I put a bed there. He thinks it's weird to have a dog bed in the dining room.

Eh, perhaps. There are PLENTY of scenarios where I never ask someone what they do, for various reasons. But I can't imagine dating someone and not having any idea what they spend their days doing. I think learning about the general concept of what one does is normal in getting to know someone, especially when you're interested in developing a relationship with them.

I'm not piling on - but I'm in the "never heard this word" camp. I thought it was an auto correct too and didn't understand what you were saying at first.

Legit lol.
Violet , you can probably call the school and have the bus stop moved. I wouldn’t be happy about that either, especially if you don’t have kids attending the school.

I am judging my dog. He ate the dog bed in the dinning room over the weekend. Now, he is roaming around with a half shredded nerf bullet. Earlier he ate my sons shoes and killed a lamby dog toy. I already took him for a 3 mile walk and only have left him alone for about 3 hours today. Good thing he is cute.
I am, also, judging the giant mummified rat that I had to pull out of the ceiling at a rental today, when the plumber came to fix a pipe, and had to cut a hole. Sometime in the last 110 years, the rat thought it a good idea to curl up and die in the ceiling. Gloves are not enough, I needed blinders.
My insurance company. They mailed a letter to my son, addressed it to him. They approved his upcoming surgery for a tubal ligation. Wut? That letter should be to me, not my 8 year old. Last I checked, he didn't have any fallopian tubes.
I get that people make mistakes but ugh.
I am so happy that you are getting your surgery, but this legit made me chuckle at my desk.

DH's friend went to some sort of mixer and every time someone opened up with a question about what he does he would respond with "my favorite color is blue." I don't find the question bothersome, but this story amuses me.

I have a very PT job where I don’t see my boss ever and that’s what I’m quitting. I never had time to reply yesterday and frankly, forgot about the thread until you mentioned it here.

I want to start doing this. I absolutely hate talking about work outside of work.

This is hilarious.
I have a friend who calls her cats “kids” and it irritates the shit out of me for no good reason. Like “we’ve gotta get back to the kids!”
I call my animals my babies though so I can probably fuck off too lol. I just feel like it’s a little more common to say “oh my dog is my baby.”

It’s not so much the referring to them as “kids,” so much as the fact that she thinks having cats is the same as being a single parent or a special needs parent.

Bureaucracy at it's best! No doubt, they did this purposefully, so they can deny that they pre-approved the claim. When they deny, you call, and they will say, "Your policy only covers tubal ligation for pre-pubescent males. Females don't need it, per our scientific evaluation by an old guy in a cubical."
