I know it’s a carefully crafter persona but it makes me kinda sad William is a douche who throws his brother under the bus.
I had no idea he was at the Vegas shenanigans !
Me too. I thought they had each other's back and took care of one another because they knew they couldn't trust the rest of the BRF.
They did at one time. But W was raised differently from H (direct heir) and he eventually took on the business of the crown as he became an adult - Charles has taken on more of Liz’s duties here recently and so W has somewhat taken on the role of second-in-line. W was raised with a duty to fulfill, he is now doing it. His job is to drink the Kool Aid and protect the monarchy.
I also put a lot of credence in the theory that H realized how raw of a deal he was getting in his 20s, started acting out, and then when he finally met M he found an ally and a partner. Being best buds with W just can’t happen in the BRF dynamic.
I don’t think of Kate as a particularly warm person - she did grow up incredibly privileged herself plus the whole British thing - but I don’t think she’s trying to be malicious. She’s somewhat stuck in the role of Kool Aid drinker. It’s the one big ask of her. Liz loves her loyalty and gives her honorifics for it.
@ Isn’t there some weirdness with Archie’s birth certificate, where Queen Liz is named as an official guardian or something? Maybe that’s why he was left in Canada. (plus awful jet lag for such a short trip back!) Wouldn’t want him snatched away from M & H or used as a bargaining chip. I’m a few drinks in and may be misremembering...

I recall her actually once saying something about struggling with being shy. I think that’s why she seems more comfortable doing engagements with children.
I remember empathizing with her in that regard, as someone who can also be a bit shy and has sometimes had that be misconstrued as coldness or unfriendliness.

Am I the only one who thinks this may not work out the way Harry thinks it will? As a royal, he has no idea what it’s like to not be a royal. The press is still going to hound them. Although their life will be different, they will still be celebs and have the link to the family, even if it isn’t official. IDK. I hope this makes everything easier for Megan since she has been treated so poorly by the press and internet trolls. She has to feel a sense of relief. But this whole thing is going to be such a mess.

I read recently that there is some 300 year old law that the Sovereign has guardianship of minor grandchildren. I don’t think QEII would exercise it but if I were Megan it would make me nervous.

I don't think he thinks that he's truly going to live a normal life - but as a non-royal he will have more control (not 100% control, but more) over when and how the public has access to him, his wife and their child. There are certainly top tier celebrities who are able to maintain some sense of privacy. Right now the public is "owed" access to his life. Without/with less royal responsibilities they are owed less.
Wait, he's not becoming a non-royal. He's becoming not a senior royal. Like, this is a bfd and I'm thrilled for them, but it's not like he's throwing his crown on the floor and renouncing citizenship.

I have a hard time believing that particular affair rumor and I have absolutely no idea about any other possible affairs. In the case of Rose what’s-her-name, as the story was breaking, W&K had several public appearances together. They were photographed looking each other in the eyes while laughing and genuinely enjoying each other’s company. If Kate had just found out he cheated with her friend, you know it would have been a “don’t look at me, don’t touch me just smile at the camera” through a grimace kind of moment.
I know next to nothing about the royals (though I am definitely entertained by this thread) and no opinion on the affair, but I can't possibly see how them making public appearances and being lovey is in some way proof that there was never an affair. From what I can tell, Kate knew exactly what she was getting into and did so willingly. She's not going anywhere. So yeah, maybe in private he's sleeping on the couch and not allowed to get near her, but in public, I'm guessing she does what she has to do to dispel rumors and ensure the BRF looks as they should. And I'm sure she knows a Trump/Melania level appearance is not going to be enough to stop tabloid rumors.
Right? Kate is a woman who every single place she goes, everything she does and says is analyzed by the press, by us etc(in very threads like these worldwide!) Has every inch of her body and clothing analyzed. Every movement analyzed.
I think she has down pat how to put on any emotion for the camera and sell it.
One of the BIGGEST things they are going to cover up is marital strife, so I'd think it'd be extra lovey, not some grimace any person on the street can see through.

Apparently because this isn’t an Act of Parliament, but a royal prerogative established in the early 18th century, it is not legally binding.

Yes, I’m starting to feel like this is getting a little overblown. Nothing I’ve seen indicates that they plan to completely sever all ties and renounce everything and peace out forever. They’ve just said that they will no longer be senior working royals.
To me it sounds like they plan to continue to have a relationship with the family but in the role of minor royals, along the lines of, say, the Gloucesters or the Kents. They have patronages that they support and will once in a while make an appearance on behalf of the crown, but they aren’t beholden to the same expectations and restrictions as the senior royals.
This whole thread is interesting. I've thought from the start that Megan is getting the blame for something Harry wants whole-heartedly. And once Archie was thrown into the mix he was going to move mountains to protect him and them.
Also, how is Gloucester pronounced? I assume it's Fanshaw-esque. Gloster or some such. Is Kent pronounced Kent? Or do I need to start teaching my neighbors the proper pronunciation? lol. Is this a @velar fricative type question?

The Queen introduces her Kent and Gloucester cousins to the president of Poland in this clip, if you want to hear the pronounciations:
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”

Enjoy our very expensive baseball team you recently stole. 😂
Lol! Like I fucking want it! You can have it back! We didn't even TRY with the name!
I can't believe that they decided to put it right in Kelley Square - the craziest traffic intersection known to man.
To be honest we enjoy it a lot, but that’s because it’s in a charming old school stadium like 5 mins from our house. Hardly a tourist attraction. Our state and city refusing to shell out the tax money for a deal was one of the only useful things they’ve done in a decade but I’m still kinda sad. If you wanna give it back I’d be down. 😉❤️

I'm sorry - I was being flippant.
I work at a University that has actually done quite a bit of research about the benefits (and lack of) of local teams like this. And the community benefits tend to be fairly high - though the financial benefits are significantly less so. So I am sorry about the loss to your community.
If you decide to come up here to see the 'woosox', honestly and truly - first drink on me. Let me know.

I thought this made sense too but fwiw that reporter says no, he contacted them about it on December 28 and gave them 10 days to respond before posting.
Both of this things can be true. The news could have been leaked, the Sussexes given ten days, and then they released on the tenth day to get out ahead of it.
Right I agree but I think his point is that 10 days is a long time in the news, esp for a story this big and that other reporters were probably sniffing around.
Ten days is a reasonable amount of time for the royal family to put together a unified statement saying they’re all on the same page and working together to iron out the details - that’s not a knock on H&M but more on BP who seemed to give them the run around when they tried to work something out then put out that statement implying they were caught off guard.

I haven't read all the posts but I just saw this article this morning. It is truly remarkable how different the same publications treated Kate Middleton vs Meghan Markle.
