Between 2 very popular members of the royal family making an exit and the Queen trotting her child-molesting son out in public, I think they’re going to have a bit of a publicity issue this year that a new season of The Crown won’t be able to fix.
Like, how hard is it? When given the option to publicly support your trash ass son, just, don’t do that. Even if you support him privately (which you shouldn’t), just demonstrate some basic awareness that Andrew probably shouldn’t be coming anywhere near you in public. Isn’t duty supposed to come before love, or whatever? Consider it a duty not to put him in everyone’s face and smile about it. I know public life is difficult but they make it more difficult for themselves. Damn. Are they just not that bright?
The Queen's father was thought to be a bit of a dolt (which is one reason no one was excited about his becoming king, least of all him), so maybe.
I wonder if Prince Charles has the same views or if he will break from the stupidity. I wondered if that’s why Harry’s plan was to be reviewed in a year and he appealed to Charles first (at least from what I read). Is it Philip who is in poor health or is the queen herself who thinks everything ought to be as they expect it (stiff upper lip and power status)? I can see that crap working back in the 50s but in today’s world, no one is just going to say “she pretends he’s not a child molester so we should never say otherwise.” Even my 96 yr old Grandma understands this. I’m going to vote a bunch of dolts.

I don't know if you've seen the Crown, but in the most recent season they spend one episode on the Aberfan Mine Disaster, which basically happened when a bunch of debris/slurry from a mine became unstable due to heavy rains and slid down a mountain in Wales into the neighboring village - specifically hitting a primary school, killing 140 people, the vast majority of them children. ANYWAY the Queen didn't show up in Wales for like 8 days (she sent Phillip) and has later said that's her biggest regret.
Now, that's a heck of a regret, I will grant you, but she also pulled the same shit when Diana died. The entire movie The Queen revolves around THAT story line, and how she kept insisting the death of the most popular member of the royal family, tragically, at the age of 37, was a "private family matter." She just didn't get that they public was looking to her for some kind of reaction or comfort.

I agree that Aberfan was a huge misstep, but to be fair the Queen has visited four or five times since and the general feeling (from what I’ve heard) is that people in the area felt the Queen has been very supportive of them.
Her every move has been scrutinized for almost 80 years. She has made mistakes, but to suggest that she is an idiot old lady from a trash family feels really sad. I respect her and how she has dedicated her life to her country immeasurably while not agreeing with every single thing she has done.
I don’t think the Queen is stupid, and I don’t think she’s a vindictive or nasty person.
I DO think that the Queen making at least two public shows of support for Andrew once the Epstein stuff really hit the fan was just a shitty, shitty thing for the Queen to do. Both on its own, and also because she didn’t do it for Meghan.
The Queen is surrounded by a large team of people whose job it is to make sure she doesn’t fuck something up. And, again, she’s not a stupid person - she knows how optics and PR work. A short statement, a public photo op with Meghan, William tying the Sussexes’ struggles into his Mental Health campaign, SOMETHING. If the Queen hadn’t stuck her neck out for Andrew I’d say “ok maybe they just figured ignoring the harassment or not giving it the dignity of a response would make it go away faster” ... but if she did it for Andrew she could’ve done it for Meghan. Who know what went on behind the scenes, but from a PR standpoint I’m amazed that they screwed this up so badly.
And I’m sure Meghan wasn’t twisting Harry’s arm to leave, either, as he’s made no secret that he dislikes this kind of life ... I think this was all an inevitable situation, but the media harassment and racism just pushed it along faster than they’d initially planned.

See, and I think that *because* she's well aware of how PR works, and has a whole team dedicated to making sure she does everything exactly right, that she's just being an asshole here.
I don't see her handling this and the Andrew situation as a misstep, or her/her team "screwing up." I see it as her being quite plain as to where her priorities and loyalties lie. I can't imagine NO ONE brought up the point that appearing with Andrew at that time was *maybe* not a great look. But she's the queen, and can do whatever the eff she wants, so if she wants to appear with him, she's going to. She has the power and ability to ignore advice.
She could have stepped up and publicly supported the Sussexes' campaigns, and made an effort to curb the rabid racism against Megan in the press. She chose not to.
Choices have consequences, and this consequence is that she's looking like an asshole.

Yes, you’re right, I think we’re on the same page here. “Screwing up” was a poor choice of words on my part ... I mean that I don’t see how the Queen didn’t realize - or, more likely, care - that this wasn’t going to be a good look for her.
Although she’s probably well aware that sadly there are tons of people playing this off as the Sussexes being spoiled brats while the poor widdle Cambridges are the “classy” ones for keeping their heads down and working hard. The whole thing is so gross.

I think her actions have shown her to be vindictive and a shitty person. I don’t even follow the royals closely but the queen has made it clear the crown comes before anything else. I bet she’s pissed that Harry wouldn’t just put his head down and do his duty. She has teams of people at her disposable and I’m sure a few of them have said it isn’t a good look to be seen with rapey son. I’m sure have said it would be good to public show support for H&M. She has done and continues to do what the fuck she wants. When someone shows you how they are you should believe them. The queen and gross ass son on one side and her grandson, granddaughter in law and the baby on the other side.
Eh, if the crown truly came before anything else, she would have dropped rapey son from public view like a hot potato, especially in the current climate.

“She has done and continues to do what the fuck she wants” sounds like the exact reverse of being Royal - particularly the Queen.
