This doesn’t seem like a particularly Bernie-ish tweet but i do appreciate the sentiment.
If you can’t read it - he quoted Trump’s tweet and replied, “ Let’s be clear about who is rigging what: it is Donald Trump’s action to use the power of the federal government for his own political benefit that is the cause of the impeachment trial. Democrats are going to unite to sweep him out of the White House in November.”
Cool story bro....but if you’re not the nominee will you truly support that nominee or keep being that annoying gnat buzzing in our ears?
I have my hesitations about Bernie, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he’s learned from last time and really pulls for the candidate. He loves this country too.
I don’t care whether Bernie means it or not. It’s a huge step in the right direction just to put this message out there, because some of his supporters need to hear it from him.
ETA - clarifying: Overall, I do care if he means it, but in this particular case, I think it’s most important that he helps quickly shut down these attempts at outside divisiveness. When the convention comes around, he’d better put his money where his mouth is.

There’s all this stuff out now about some doctored or not doctored video from the BS camp about Biden’s social security cuts. Trying to shift through the truth of that mess is a headache.
I’m glad he tweeted that, but the suspicious part of me notes that Bernie Sanders said DEMOCRATS will unite. This wording may leave him free to be divisive since, you know, he isn’t one.
But I will try to be less cynical and more optimistic.
We should all bow down to HRC. She’s taking one for the team. Obviously she’s going to send rose Twitter into apocalyptic frenzy and they will attack her.... her, a woman NOT running. Thereby laying off the candidates actually running. Brilliant!
Not to mention, she’s speaking the god damned truth.

yeah I mean....no lies detected ::shrug::
and yes, let them focus their crazy on HRC and lay off of Warren for a hot minute.
Here’s another quote from the HRC interview (from Slate):
“That’s particularly true with what’s going on right now with the Bernie campaign having gone after Elizabeth with a very personal attack on her,” Clinton continued. “Then this argument about whether or not or when he did or didn’t say that a woman couldn’t be elected, it’s part of a pattern. If it were a one-off, you might say, ‘OK, fine.’ But he said I was unqualified. I had a lot more experience than he did, and got a lot more done than he had, but that was his attack on me. I just think people need to pay attention because we want, hopefully, to elect a president who’s going to try to bring us together, and not either turn a blind eye, or actually reward the kind of insulting, attacking, demeaning, degrading behavior that we’ve seen from this current administration.”
I spent the morning arguing with some people on FB that no, Warren didn't make up what Bernie said to her (he's even implied that he "didn't mean it," or didn't "say it in that way" which sounds like an admission), and no, she didn't lie about being fired for being pregnant because it was legal at that time and then the federal government created a law surrounding pregnancy discrimination, which obviously didn't come out of nowhere, and, oh yeah, Bernie supporters still haven't found that magical woman that they'll vote for, in theory, even though one who can actually implement Bernie's ideas in a practical way is staring them in the face.
In the doc, you're brutally honest on Sanders: "He was in Congress for years. He had one senator support him. Nobody likes him, nobody wants to work with him, he got nothing done. He was a career politician. It's all just baloney and I feel so bad that people got sucked into it." That assessment still hold?
Yes, it does.
If he gets the nomination, will you endorse and campaign for him?
I'm not going to go there yet. We're still in a very vigorous primary season. I will say, however, that it's not only him, it's the culture around him. It's his leadership team. It's his prominent supporters. It's his online Bernie Bros and their relentless attacks on lots of his competitors, particularly the women. And I really hope people are paying attention to that because it should be worrisome that he has permitted this culture — not only permitted, [he] seems to really be very much supporting it. And I don't think we want to go down that road again where you campaign by insult and attack and maybe you try to get some distance from it, but you either don't know what your campaign and supporters are doing or you're just giving them a wink and you want them to go after Kamala [Harris] or after Elizabeth [Warren]. I think that that's a pattern that people should take into account when they make their decisions.
Gotta love using the same tactic over and over again. Remember "Obama Boys" in 2008? It plays better against Bernie Bros, because apparently mainstream liberal elites are more comfortable with casual anti-semitism than casual racism, but you know, it's the same damn thing.
erose , I havedn't seen any anti-antisemitism in criticisms of Bernie, but I see plenty of sexism and racism coming from his supporters.
I've seen plenty. He's shouty (his vocal patterns are just like every male relative of mine from Brooklyn/the Bronx, it's all coded), isn't this actually a clip of Larry David's voice, etc. There's plenty.

At this time, I would urge you to read the comments - they're pretty great. HRC's job isn't to help him win Iowa. This IS the time to bring concerns like this up. This isn't May, or October. Nary a primary vote has been cast.

IT IS JANUARY. THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF CANDIDATES IN THIS.
WHY IS VETTING BERNIE AND DISCUSSING ISSUES PEOPLE HAVE WITH HIM ALWAYS FORBIDDEN?

If she pledges to support him as the party nominee anyway, then wtf is the point of calling him out in the first place?

She didn't go out of her way to do this. It was part of an interview for the documentary that is out or is coming out on Hulu. She answered an interviewer's question honestly in the doc, and then someone asked her recently if she stood by the statements, to which she said yes. She didn't call up CNN at 2am and say, "Hey - I have some feelings about Bernie and I think today is the day to let them loose".
If anything, we can once again blame sensationalist journalism for the timing of this story. But I ain't even mad about it.

For the same reasons we talk about Mayor Pete’s issues in South Bend with policing, Elizabeth Warren’s dna test, Biden’s war vote. This is who Bernie is and his history sucks. We are trying to choose the best candidate and we should all be honest about the candidates flaws.

Also this reads to me like anyone else who provides opinions during a primary, whether they are endorsing or opposing any candidate. Should we all be quiet during this time? It's called vetting. Of freaking course she will vote for him in the general. She might not campaign for him, but this woman owes him nothing to begin with.

I know that, it’s in response to all those on Twitter saying “oh how dare she not throw her support behind him as the possible nominee while still pointing out his issues!”
Meaning, if she pledges to support him anyway then he’s not going to fix it. Same as Susan Collins saying she’s “concerned” about Trump’s latest fiascos but then falling into line anyway.

Do people forget that this stuff is standard with failed nominees? I remember Gore's tepid endorsements last round.

Well, but she's a woman, so she's supposed to be a good girl and sacrifice her own feelings to protect delicate man feelings.
His behavior and that of his staff and surrogates lately has me thinking a Sanders administration will be a hot mess of people trashing everyone that doesn’t agree with them and then him throwing them under the bus...just like the current administration. I’m just so tired of that, I don’t think I can handle 4 years of it from “our side”, either.
I mean, I’m not a total asshole, so I’ll vote for him in the general if I have to, but I have many doubts that he will be an effective President.
