“President Donald Trump may hire a law professor who spoke at his rally before the riot at the U.S. Capitol to help defend him in an impeachment trial over a charge that he incited the violence, according to two people familiar with the matter.“

Remember the two guys from Virginia who drove a Hummer full of firearms to Philadelphia during the counting of the election ballots? They were at the DC Capitol riot.
@@@ Biden officials are likely to include the expansion of an existing tax credit for children as part of a relief package that will also include $2,000 stimulus payments, unemployment benefits and other assistance for the ailing economy — as well as money to fight the coronavirus pandemic and increase vaccine distribution. Biden is expected to formally unveil his proposal Thursday.
Biden transition officials have not disclosed the overall price tag of the package, but it is expected to be more than $1 trillion.

This was floated before the insurrection and I've thought a lot about it. While I don't agree that Biden should pardon Trump, I can see the logic and I think it's worth considering. The GOP would *love* for the Biden admin to be mired in prosecutions that they can spin as persecution - that would be a boon for them in the midterms. But offering a pardon, and making Trump accept it, would be a deliciously humiliating power move that would allow Biden to take back the narrative. Even if pardoned, Trump can still face major consequences and be charged with state-level crimes. His co-conspirators and his insurrectionists can still be brought to justice. Idk what the right answer is, everything sucks and there's no winning, but I think all options should be on the table.
Redstone isn't a completely crazy option, though. It is where some of the earliest space/rocket programs were done, and still has the sprocket center (with a dated science center, that still hosted summer "Space Camp" not too long ago) heck, they have a Saturn 5 on display there...
It is an area that still has a large aerospace tech presence, too.
Honestly I think it should’ve been closed anyway due to COVID, but it’s horribly sad that it’s being closed because the current president is encouraging an overthrow of the government because his ego was hurt.

At this point, the main thing I care about is that he is barred from holding office again in the future. If they can write that into the pardon, I might consider it. But he needs to face consequences and we need assurance that he can never do this again.

And to be fair, looking back through the lense of history, pardoning Nixon was actually the best way to move the country forward. It killed any chance for President Ford to have a continued political career as people hated it at the time but was historically the right move. Don't want Biden to do it, unless it involves admitting wrongdoing, no more running for office and is narrow so that all state charges (and possibly federal) can continue.
There are a ton of people that don't want to heal the nation. "Healing" means returning to the white supremacist norm. No thank you.
A lot of the nation would like accountability, consequences and change! That’s like saying a murderer should be pardoned because the victim’s family’s grief may be prolonged by having to testify. The healing process will happen in time regardless.

Agreed. Ideally if a pardon is considered, it should only come after he is impeached (check!), convicted, and disqualified. It might also possible for Congress to disqualify by a simple majority vote under the 14th amendment:

This dude just "retired" because people were calling for his resignation/to be fired.
A pardon that bars him from office holding and admitting to some of his crime shit would probably move the process forward faster. I’d rather see time spent dismantling white supremacy, voter suppression, police reform, etc. that has really been the root of this crazy extremist horseshit that is the completely rooted in racism.
“America is not a democracy.
And that is the big lie.
The story of the Capitol siege is that there was an election where, finally, voter suppression was erased and Black voters voted in the same percentage that white voters did. And the only way most of white America could explain it was to believe that state legislators, secretaries of states, voting machine companies, invisible voters, Hugo Chavez, Democrats and the sequential nature of the numerical system all conspired to steal an election. It was easier to believe in that improbable scenario than to believe that America was racist this whole time.”
Pardoning Nixon also convinced Reagan that they wouldn't be consequences for things like Iran Contra. Which convinced W and Trump that there wouldn't be consequences for breaking laws.

This is where I am. As much as I want to see him wholly and fully prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for every single crime he’s ever committed both prior to and during his sham presidency, I want him barred from holding public office more.

Pardoning Trump would be a huge, huge mistake.
And I see this point too. Better minds than mine will be needed to make this decision. Part of me says disgrace and being forgotten kills trump but will it be enough to dissuade someone more clever at committing crimes from the WH.

We’re living with the consequences of that pardon now. Nothing was healed, just bandaged over.
