Indiana is 45+ as of today. My sis is a physician in Indy and said there are lots of appointments available at the IU Health Methodist Neuroscience building.
Indiana is actually making me nervous how quickly they are moving through groups, since the % of the population that’s vaccinated is lower than the national average. It seems like they’re already approaching greater supply than demand...?

My Indiana family (dad, aunts, uncle) all now is vaccinated and I am halfway there. I may be able to see them all soon and I'm crying. My dad was all covid is a hoax, I'm never getting the vaccine at first and he finally changed his mind and I am so relieved.

I hugged my parents for the first time in a little over a year on Friday! I live in MI and they live in IN. We have managed to see each other a few times in the year - we drove down with our camper a couple of times over the summer and we camped in their driveway, and they came up in October and camped in our driveway. Then for Christmas we met at state park in northern Indiana and had a "picnic" in of of the stone CCC shelters. It's enclosed on 3 sides and has a fireplace, so it wasn't that bad. Since my parents have been fully vaxxed since mid-February, and my husband I both have had our 2nd shots, we figured it was safe enough to visit "for real" based on the new CDC guidelines.

My aunt is a scientist so has been like absolutely 0 people contact for a year, except some brief outside only visits to plant with my dad last year and I didn't get to see her. My dad and I "cheated" since we both live alone and he's retired and I've only been wfh the whole time so he's visited to help me with some home stuff, but I'm so excited to actually see them all again and have human contact.

For those with social anxiety, OCD, or other challenges that may have allowed them to feel a sense of relief during the pandemic, reopening of society may cause some of them to have a very hard time. There is a portion of the piece (mostly in the middle) regarding adolescents with anxiety, so @@ warning:
We went to the county site, at an old Sears store in a mall. It was an impressive operation, with a queue setup that would rival the ones at Disney. There were probably no more than 20 people in line at any one time while we were where we could see it, but the setup could handle a lot more. The waiting area where you filled out your forms and waited for your number to be called probably held 150 people or more, and the one where you waited after your shot could hold probably hold 75-100 people...all socially distanced appropriately. Neither area was ever completely filled while we were there, but there were a lot of people.
I seem to be having a minor reaction to the vaccine...that of course didn't start until we were on our way home, close to 30 minutes post vaccination. I have some numbness around my lips., but it doesn't seem swollen. It feels like that weird period of time after you've been numbed by the dentist and it has pretty much worn off everywhere, but you are aware of your bottom lip in a way that tells you that it hasn't quite worn off yet. It seemed like it was actually getting better by the time that we got home, but I still took benadryl.

TBM, your description of the location you went to sounds like we got ours through the same org (RUHS). The Sears location replaced the location where I got mine, but I agree that it was all very organized and impressive. Hope you feel better.

Re: Redistributing doses we have to other countries. It’s just the smart thing to do. People will travel. No one ever stopped, it was just severely curtailed. Even optimistic Dr. Jha said in a NYT interview that the one thing he’s most pessimistic about is the global vaccination campaign. For purely selfish reasons alone, vaccinating the world protects Americans. It reduces the risk of someone traveling here and seeding another crisis.

I really wish our state would move faster on the phases. So many states are moving quickly and it seems like it will be May before DH and MIL get vaccinated. Ugh.
My state will open up vaccine eligibility to those with 1 health condition in April 5th meaning my H will qualify (he has a BMI over 30). Then on April 22nd it will Open to the general population! This is exciting news.
I’m so conflicted on my asthma - it’s listed in my chart as mild intermittent but I haven’t been to the doctor in a couple years about it (it is well controlled with an albuterol inhaler). I definitely have to use my inhaler more now than I did when I first got diagnosed so I’m not sure if a doctor visit would “elevate” my diagnosis. But just going to the specialist for the purposes of seeing if I now qualify for an earlier vaccine seems silly.. I don’t need to go since as long as I have my albuterol inhaler I can manage my symptoms.
I have my 2nd appointment tomorrow! My little card says so on the back, but I haven’t received any reminders electronically. I’m a little worried. I got like 3 emails and 3 texts about my first appointment and crickets for #2. I made it through myturn.ca.gov
People under 50 will have to wait a month longer than planned for their Covid vaccination because of a major shortage of vaccine that will start at the end of the month, NHS bosses have admitted.
NHS England told health service chiefs in a letter on Wednesday that the government’s vaccines task force has “notified us that there will be a significant reduction in weekly supply available from manufacturers beginning in the week commencing 29 March”.
As a result all vaccination sites in England have been told to not book anyone under 50 in for their first dose between 1 and 30 April and to concentrate instead on jabbing everyone over 50s and administering second doses.
Ugh. My H is missing out on his vax due to this. Hoping my MIL can get her second vaccine with all of this.

Just go. If your have your card they’re basically going to have to give you your second shot no matter what.

Oh yes I’m going! And I got a text at 5pm today so they are expecting me
I can't find the article now, but yesterday I read that more people now want to get vaccinated because of the scarcity of the shots. FOMO for vaccinations basically.

And then I wept for society, because wtf.
I wonder if this is partly due to all the selfies! I’d bet that has something to do with it.
laurack, book yourself an appointment. If it is on the list, you are eligible!
My H got the shot under similar circumstances.
Ugh! I feel like I’m cheating since my official diagnosis is mild not moderate. But I do have to use my inhaler most days now. The other issue is my insurance only covers the asthma doctor 70% so a visit to see if I’m considers “moderate” by now could cost me a fair bit and doesn’t seem truly necessary... ugh.

That and people's natural inclination to want scarce resources.
My H and I both got our second Pfizer shots Monday. He at 8am and me around 6pm. He was up in the middle of the night Monday with a fever and chills that made him shake the whole bed. My side effects seem to be limited to exhaustion (but also, time change, so who knows?) and soreness in my arm and up through my shoulders. The exhaustion has abated today, but the arm is still pretty sore.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude just go get your poke in the arm.

The psychology of it is interesting - I think this is true for a good chunk of the population. But I have to imagine there’s a subset of people who want the shot but think it’s too hard/they have to jump through too many hoops to get it. I’m hoping that second group steps up when appointments are easier to come by.

1) get your shot. There’s a reason asthmatics are on the list
2) if you need your rescue inhaler daily it’s time to see a doctor about that. You absolutely shouldn’t need to take that daily and that likely means it’s time for a maintenance inhaler, not just a rescue inhaler.
