I *know* I shouldn't feel guilty about getting an appointment so easily but, of course, I do. I was worried about a drive through being the most likely option and I don't think I can get the shot in my left arm due to the nerve injury. A friend told me that someone was able to get one through logging into MyChart so I checked to see what was going on and I could schedule immediately and with just a few clicks.
Please don’t. The difficulties people face/faced are so variable. Parts of my state were WIDE open with vaccines for the whole time that none could be found where I am. It’s so variable from place to place and that’s all your ease (or not) reflects. That, and the timing now that another vax exists and supply increased. Go get it and rejoice!
I'm in NC and really cranky about vaccines right now. Not completely justified, but I wanted to park my crankiness somewhere.
I'm annoyed that some people I know are only JUST qualifying due to medical conditions now but their spouses qualified over a month ago as their caretakers.
The state's messaging around our current phase is really awful. We're in Phase 4, but right now the roll out only includes part of that phase (people with disabilities and who are incarcerated or homeless) and not the other (people who work in essential industries but are not public-facing). I'm in the second part of the phase and people keep on telling me that I qualify when I don't because of the piss-poor messaging. They should break it up to A and B subgroups or something to make it clearer. I'm just annoyed after being a Debbie-Downer to my ctelling them, no, we actually don't qualify yet based on our industry.
I got my jab last night. I'm a bit achy today (it woke me up at 5:30am) and the injection site is tender, but overall, not bad. I'll get my second jab some time in 10-12 weeks.
I really wish America would adopt the word jab for vaccines. It sounds delightful and slightly dirty.

This whole rollout is problematic in so many ways. There is so much randomness about it, and of course acres is not equitable for so many. I'm glad your dad finally got an appointment.
It's looking like H will be the last one vaccinated in both our families by a long shot. He's struggling a bit with that, too. It's hard when it's you or someone you love.
My 69-year-old diabetic father who has hypertension just got his first vaccine this morning.
He called his doctor to ask how to get a vaccine. His doctor said his practice had no plans to offer vaccines, and that my dad should contact the list of vaccine providers provided by our state. Our state has absolutely no centralized portal, and it's completely on each person to call around to each vaccine provider to find an open appointment.
So, my dad got himself onto a waiting list at a local pharmacy. He figured that he could just sit back and wait until the pharmacy contacted him when they had a vaccine available for him. He has been doing this for weeks or months - just waiting. My aunt finally sent him a link to a vaccine provider that had open vaccine appointments for 65+ people. All of the appointments were in other counties. He finally got an appointment at a place an hour and a half away from his house. He had a choice of driving an hour and a half east, and hour and a half south, an hour and a half west, or an hour and a half east. So, he chose the option that had the "nicest, most enjoyable drive."
My brother-in-law's 90-year-old grandmother (grandmother of My sister's husband) who lives on the opposite side of the same state hasn't been able to get a vaccine yet.
This entire rollout just sucks so much.
Based on the fact that my 69-year-old diabetic dad just got his first shot today, I personally probably won't be able to see "my turn" until several months from now. This entire thing is just so hopeless for me. I am going to end up dying alone on a ventilator in a parking garage before I even get to see "my turn."
Edit: Also, it just really, really hurts to know that almost all of my adult family members were offered vaccines due to the nature of their work, but that I have been deemed "not worthwhile enough" to keep from dying on a ventilator. Everybody else in the family is "worth saving," but I am not.
I want to send you a virtual hug and let you know that you are worth saving. I can empathize with the frustrations about the roll out in my home state and the weeks of insanity I had online of my trying to get my parents appointments as nothing is centralized, and their Dr wasn't able to help. My parents drove 80 miles into the center of their state to where they were able to get an appointment, they picked what was a fairly straight drive out of the options the dept of aging had, similarly it seems to how your dad chose. They'll be going back for their second to the same location. I've had moments of thought about ventilators as well honestly...My 67 year old dad was on a ventilator with Covid for 2 weeks (thankfully he survived). I'm not yet eligible, but have some of the same health challenges he has and seem to follow his patterns with them so I've thought about if my own survival would happen. It's tough mentally to be waiting.
Might there be any extra vaccines available in your area after the eligible population has their appointments - I mean at the very end of the day? That is how my H just got his, he got lucky with a grocery pharmacy having one dose left around 8 pm, and they had no more appointments that day.
Sending positive thoughts to you through the wait, and glad to hear your dad got his first shot!
I found out this morning that my mom has been sick in bed with Covid for a week and neither she nor her husband saw fit to mention that when we texted this week. Luckily she has a "mild" case with just body aches and fatigue (no breathing issues), but i am so pissed they didn't tell me. They always pull this shit. I live 1500 miles away so they keep things from me so i dont worry and because i cant do anything anyway (their words).
She was due for her 2nd Covid shot next week, too. So close. I dont even know what happens with that now.
I'm sorry agnes. Even tough things are getting better overall, there are still loved ones we're losing to the pandemic and it sucks. Every lost life is a tragedy.

Ha, jab drives me nuts.
I’ve never liked the word “shot” for vaccines; it makes me think of guns. Jab reminds me of a slightly haphazard kickboxing move. 😛
Today I’m two weeks post vaccine, I am marking it with four separate zoom calls and will otherwise continue masking and doing the exact same things I’ve been doing for a year. I was able to give blood yesterday as planned, though it got dicey at the very end, and I almost passed out. Fortunately, they were able to get all the testing vials, so I’ll post back if covid antibodies register. I’m pretty curious about that piece, and hope I can somehow help someone a little extra.
Everyone is worth saving. And many states are opening up because there is more supply and they are anticipating a possible surge. It won’t be long now. I think most states will open to everyone before or on May 1.
Yesterday was my first day at the hospital since March of last year where 0 people on our caseload are covid+
We have less than 10 currently in the hospital and none on our service. It was strange but awesome. I hope these numbers hold. It’s not a testing issue since we test all new admits.

I know, I know.... Thank you. I'm getting my first shot tomorrow, blizzard or not! I'll get a Lyft if I have to. (I have driving anxiety now too.) I'm very excited and relieved to get vaccinated. I'm so thankful that I didn't have to work hard to find an appointment. I was teetering between motivation and exhaustion. I know it's good for herd immunity for people to grab the opportunity when it comes so I assuage my guilt with that knowledge.
Starting with healthcare and seniors was the right thing to do and that’s what we did.
The reason we are very soon opening up for everyone is supply will increase and to combat more contagious variants. In order to do that everyone needs to be vaccinated.
I get it, we definitely wanted to roll out to protect certain groups but the farther we get into this the more we need everyone to get it. That’s why my state is opening it up to everyone mid April and the feds recommended May 1. That’s only 5 weeks away at this point. No one should feel guilty getting their shot at this point but if people are then pay it forward by helping others get appointments.
DH and I both have appointments tomorrow. Since his is through work, there is an option to email your boss, which he did not check. He's afraid once they find out he has it that they will call him back into the office. I don't see how that's possible because they can't distance in the cubes properly. He says they don't care and I believe him because they have had triple digit positives the whole year.
