DH had his first day volunteering with the county medical corps yesterday, helping to run a vaccination site. At the end of the day they vaccinate any volunteer who wants it, so he got his first shot. He said they had about 2,000 people get vaccinated at the site yesterday and was super impressed with how well-run everything was. But it was also pretty intense in a got-one-bathroom-break-and-15-minutes-to-eat-a-sandwich kind of way. Their volunteer slots fill pretty quickly and I haven't been able to sign up yet, but I hoping to start after spring break. We're going to be doing this vaccination thing for awhile and I'm looking forward to being able to help, and getting the vaccine is obviously a huge bonus.
We’ve had discussions about vaccine efficacy in immunocompromised people. For cancer people and those that love them, new preprint on efficacy in cancer patients. TL;DR is don’t delay the booster/2nd shot. And it’s much better in solid vs blood cancers (not surprising).

I don't blame the US for not following the same strategy, because I think Britain's was more of a gamble based on what we know about how these vaccines were tested and studied. But, it looks like the gamble is working for Britain, which means this could be an effective strategy for countries just starting vaccinations.
My DH got the call last night to come in first thing this morning for his shot! He works as a civilian for the DOD and once they finished vaccinating the service members on base a month or so ago they started working through the other personnel. I’m happy for him but this also means that other than my brother and the @@@ minors everyone in my family has had at least their first dose and I have major FOMO! I wanna hug everyone too!!
My H got his first shot yesterday, Publix had one extra at the end of the day. Feeling really happy for him, hoping to find myself one soon as I have moderate asthma (but no current Dr. to determine if that could put me in a high enough risk category to be eligible now). So it's me, my brother and SIL left to get ours whenever that may be. Feels like some more progress at least!
Velar Fricative, I think that’s the wrong link. But also, the study I posted above was done in Britain, and refutes that one-jab works in immunocompromised patients - the ones most likely to inadvertently create variants.

It's part of the morning newsletter, that's why the URL has different topics listed.

I had my Ocrevus infusion for MS on Wednesday. According to the National MS society I now need to wait at least 12 weeks before getting my COVID vaccine. I am having all kinds of anxiety about it.

That's what they told my mom too. She was in between neuros and didn't get her infusion in Jan like usual, so she sort of lucked out. Though I told her to schedule the next one once she hits 12 weeks post full vaccination.
That and people's natural inclination to want scarce resources.
The psychology of it is interesting - I think this is true for a good chunk of the population. But I have to imagine there’s a subset of people who want the shot but think it’s too hard/they have to jump through too many hoops to get it. I’m hoping that second group steps up when appointments are easier to come by.
I sort of fall in that second subset. I do not have the energy or motivation to vaccine hunt. I added my name to the list to get notified and will go when that happens. In fact, I was a little anxious at first being afraid there would not be enough second shots, but the supply chain has caught up now, so that worry is no longer active.
They moved up the phases here! DH and MIL will be eligible on 3/31!!
Do you have a link to the updated Phases rollout for WA?
My google skills are failing me, and DOH's website is not very search-friendly.
It's impossible to find anything concrete for the state, at this point. Last week a lot of people I know got vaccinated because some clinics were including hardware stores, food service or distribution, finance, and real estate. I saw the "critical worker" eligibility list for these clinics with my own two eyes, because I passed it along to three friends who were able to get scheduled and vaccinated. Another friend asked for it on Wednesday and the page had completely changed (ETA: with those groups no longer included on the list). I'm hearing from a friend of mine involved in organizing some of the big drives that they've had to cancel chunks of appointments because they couldn't fill them all, so I don't know if some clinics are going rogue when they have extras, or what. For a state that seemingly had their stuff together for so long, this piece has been impossible to navigate.
ETA: the main groups being added on 3/31 include construction, manufacturing, 2+ comorbidities, some other medical conditions, restaurant workers, and 60+. quite possibly there are other groups, too. I work in public health (though not for WA) and I still can't figure it out.
I got my 2nd dose yesterday and felt good today other than some fatigue.
My favorite aunt texted that she got the shot yesterday. She said the family pressure was too much so she just got it. I’m so happy she decided to get it as she works in a grocery store.

My husband and i both scheduled our 1st shots! I didnt think we were eligible yet, so was shocked when i got the invitation to schedule appointments tonight. Even then, i logged on expecting to be scheduled for late April/early May. We are scheduled for Monday!!! I can't quite believe it. We must have qualified due to health history because we arent yet age-eligible here.
I am so excited! Because I’m over 50, I am eligible starting next Tuesday! It’s unbelievable to me that H and I should both be vaccinated by the beginning of May.

I got my jab last night. I'm a bit achy today (it woke me up at 5:30am) and the injection site is tender, but overall, not bad. I'll get my second jab some time in 10-12 weeks.
I'm in NC and really cranky about vaccines right now. Not completely justified, but I wanted to park my crankiness somewhere.
I'm annoyed that some people I know are only JUST qualifying due to medical conditions now but their spouses qualified over a month ago as their caretakers.
The state's messaging around our current phase is really awful. We're in Phase 4, but right now the roll out only includes part of that phase (people with disabilities and who are incarcerated or homeless) and not the other (people who work in essential industries but are not public-facing). I'm in the second part of the phase and people keep on telling me that I qualify when I don't because of the piss-poor messaging. They should break it up to A and B subgroups or something to make it clearer. I'm just annoyed after being a Debbie-Downer to my coworkers and telling them, no, we actually don't qualify yet based on our industry.
I *know* I shouldn't feel guilty about getting an appointment so easily but, of course, I do. I was worried about a drive through being the most likely option and I don't think I can get the shot in my left arm due to the nerve injury. A friend told me that someone was able to get one through logging into MyChart so I checked to see what was going on and I could schedule immediately and with just a few clicks.
I just checked and as of today (Sat.), there are 74 appointments at one state site, and 50 appointments at another state site for tomorrow (Sun) at sites I'd totally drive to if I were eligible. I'm so frustrated that we're wasting these opportunities to get people vaccinated. OPEN IT UP, CUOMO.

Second vaccine: no fever but feel relatively awful— muscle aches so much it hurts to move (even my nose and cheeks hurt!), tired, headache, and my arm hurts like HELL.
I know many are still waiting and states/local governments are frustrating. It’s opening up more and more. Keep the faith that it’s coming your way.
