MA opened up preregistration for the general public a week or two ago, and eligibility for us begins on 4/19. I haven't seen anything about what the Commonwealth is doing with the preregistration data, but I have to hope they're going to proactively offer appointments. Does anyone know?
Part of me wonders if I should take the 19th off from work so I can sit and refresh websites all day, but I have a couple big meetings, so it's a terrible day to miss work if I don't have to. On the other hand, I really want my vaccine, and I will move mountains to get myself an appointment as soon as I'm eligible!
noodleoo, have you read anything more that I may have missed?
That’s a long time. But I know the advice is to not get a mammogram for 6 weeks because of potential swollen glands for that long so maybe it’s similar? I had a swollen gland in my neck and head for almost 6 weeks Post dose 2. I was going to go to the doc if it wasn’t gone by the 6 week mark, then poof! Gone.
I was just looking this up this morning for another coversation, but MD Anderson is saying 6 to 10 weeks. 😳😳
its interesting how this is evolving. At the end of Feb, advice was 4, maybe 6 weeks. I squeezed in my mammogram just before my shot so I wouldn’t have to wait til end of April. Now, a month later, it’s 6 to 10 weeks. *shutter* Like everything covid... they just don’t know.
I think they do that by design — either so they can schedule second dose appointments more easily or because they don’t know what supply will be like. I’ve yet to see a pharmacy website here that’s scheduling out more than a week or two.
(Also, I think technically scheduling isn’t open to the general public until the 15th. If you try to make an appointment earlier, you still have to attest that you’re eligible for some other reason. FWIW ...)
Aw, man, even if I make the appointment for after the 15th? I assumed it only mattered when I actually showed up to be vaccinated. Not that it looks like I will be able to make the appointment much earlier than that anyway.
I mean, no one will stop you. 😀 I tried to do the same thing and it still wanted me to enter my eligibility deets to see available appointments.

The registration is only for the mass vax sites (Gillette, Natick Mall, etc). Supposedly they will send you a link when you are eligible that allows you to schedule an appt. That is the only way to schedule at the mass vax sites anymore, so hopefully they are limiting the traffic and if you get a link, should be able to make an appt easily.
However, everyone I know who has gotten vaccinated recently has done it through CVS. They release their appts overnight sometime between 12 and 4 am. They also add some during the day, but the big batches seem to come out overnight. My H was also following a Twitter feed that would post when appts are available, I’ll ask him what it was. I became eligible through work last week and he got me an appt that way. It was a huge PITA, so yeah, taking a day off might be worth it (also so you can rest if you stay up all night trying). It did take him 3 days to get me an appt though. I had given up and was just going to wait for the registration email, but that could take a lot longer. The vax hunter thread on CEP was helpful too.
I work in manufacturing and my company has received vaccines to distribute. They are following the phase the state is in but weren’t getting a lot of sign ups so they opened it up more and I was able to get my first dose on Saturday. My state is spiking bad right now but I’m starting to feel hopeful. H, grandma, and mom all are fully vaccinated and my date got his first dose last week.
I just got my "invitation" for vaccination today from my health care provider. First shot tomorrow. That means my immediate family will all be vaccinated by mid-may, and oh man, I cannot wait.

Ugh. I'll be eligible for the vaccine 5/1. My mammogram is due mid June. Although I guess if I can get a vaccine appointment right away that only delays my mammogram by a few weeks.

My county had a sign up link for people to start registering. I registered this morning and got an email this afternoon to sign up for 4/1! H also got signed up! The county clinic we signed up for is J&J. I think I preferred one of the others, but any is better than none! I was shocked at how quick and easy that was considering it's not technically open for us *yet* (will be tomorrow) and I know so many people have trouble finding appointments!
Personally I wouldn’t take the day off. I think it’s more about strategic searching rather than constant searching like hitting the CVS appointments at the time pp mentioned. Walgreens used to have a 6 am drop maybe still does- have your account all filled out first including all personal details or it might give you an error message. Marianos/ Kroger is a refreshing thing and multiple zip codes maybe between 1-3 pm. If a mass vaccine site announces new appointments try 3-5 minutes before they drop. Type super fast. If it’s the time they mention usually the website crashes. Also try calling the hotline if there is one. I’ve found appointments there that don’t show up online- this is the case with both Walgreens and the county mass vaccine sites. Some of our immediate cares drop at midnight- go fast as they are booked by 12:02 am.
Our gyms started back class MONTHS (like last summer) ago. They did space people 6 feet apart etc and said they limited class sizes but half followed their own rules. Now gyms are fully open and cases are still dropping so it is what it is. I am still not going to classes until I am fully vaccinated.
I miss Orange Theory SO BAD.
They opened ours a while ago, and they're doing the best they can, and we've been a bit more lenient on certain things, we went to Disney a couple weeks ago, and honestly felt safe. There were a few jerks with their masks under their noses, but cast members were great about telling them to fix it when they saw it.
I still can't get into the idea of an indoor class where I know how much I'm huffing and puffing trying not to die, "socially distanced" or not.
FL is opening up vaccines for all over 16/18 on the 5th, I've kind of been ignoring a lot of things since I wasn't able to get a vaccine and everyone in my family who has been eligible has been able to handle everything themselves.
Do I have to wait until the 5th to start looking for appointments or can I start looking now and make one for after the 5th?

I registered for my 40+ (this week) appointment last Friday morning (before I was technically eligible). I used Publix, I had my first dose this morning and all in all, it went very well. You have to be on the website ready to go at 7am- and expect a wait (educators go first and that number seems to vary a lot- I waited 10 minutes, my husband waited 45 a week prior).
It looks like they don't have J&J as an option this week, so Friday is the next time you'll be able to make an appointment (for Moderna) through them- but I bet it will be for next Monday!
CVS and Walgreens are also doing their own thing- I think some Walmarts may be, too?
The mass vaccination site in rural eastern MD has availability all day, every day this week again. Which is great I guess but also SO FRUSTRATING when people here in central MD can't get appointments. Re route those shots, governor!
But I guess it's a good sign that getting shots will be easier and easier.
It would help if Wicomico county would open up beyond Phase 1C. Only last week was I notified that 1C's could even register for a vaccine. The mass vax site has only been opened since March 18ish. There is also no advertising of the site to get people there. Our site hasn't had the time to become a well oiled process like the sites across the bay.
I keep seeing that the Civic Center clinic is open to all, 16 and up. I confess that since I don’t live there anymore, I didn’t pay attention to dates.

My mom’s friend asked me to find her an appt. so I did. And then apparently one of her relatives told her they have dna that reacts badly to the vaccine and sent her a video from some Belgian dr about why she shouldn’t be vaccinated. That relative of hers is a nurse and she trusts her: So she cancelled her appt. And a week later she regrets that decision and asked my mom if I could help again. I had a horrible day and I’m overtired and probably incoherent waiting up to get her another appointment. So that’s a vent.

Oh my gosh. I hope you got one. Thank you for helping her! I am glad she changed her mind back and I think it's good to strike while the iron is hot and get her in asap.
But that's so incredibly frustrating on many levels.
Gosh it’s so disheartening that PA is still on 1A. I’m phase 2, and it is going to be a total shitshow in a few weeks when everyone is supposedly eligible. I signed up for the medical reserve corps in my county weeks ago and my status is still pending. I figured that was my only way to get a shot any earlier (I know they tend to give the leftovers to volunteers). I’m on standby lists but they go in order of phase. Trying to be patient but dammit I want one.
It has been almost two weeks since I got my first dose (Pfizer) and had a reaction to it, and I am still experiencing some mild numbness around lip/chin area. I guess it must be getting better, since I can feel it more than before. It's more annoying now, and I can tell that it actually affected more than I thought though...pretty much the entire area a mask would cover if I was one of those people who wears their mask below their nose. I didn't think it was that wide of an area.
I have an appointment with an allergist on Thursday, to find out what I should do about a second dose. From what I could find on the CDC website, it looks like I should not get a second dose of Pfizer, (or Moderna) and they just say to consult an allergist to find out what you are supposed to do.
I guess I should spend some time today filling out the zillion new patient forms. Those things always give me anxiety....it feels like taking a test or something. lol
1/3rd of Massachusetts has apparently received at least one dose yet our numbers are climbing. 40% increase in daily cases from 2 weeks ago.
I’m trying to stay positive but feeling a bit doom and gloom reading about the increases here in the northeast and reading Covid news around the world today. Ugh.
H's family is at odds over two people who are refusing the vaccine. One of his cousins has been brainwashed against it (from the left!) and believes all the "CDC will be tracking you" BS. This led her mom, H's aunt, to start wavering on getting one. She's 80 and not in great health, so she REALLY should. H's uncle has a new kidney, so he's telling her she can't come to my MIL's memorial this summer unless she relents and gets vaccinated. So far, it's just been a lot of back and forth on Zoom, but these people are extra stubborn and unlikely to back down, and I can see it coming to a head at the actual memorial.
Fun times! At least I got my first dose on Saturday. Many people complained about Maine's rollout, but once I became eligible last week, I was able to sign up and get the vax just two days later, with one visit to the CDC site.

Wow, I didn't realize it was so high. Cases in our town are swinging up too. It's scary. I noticed on the news that the map of states with increasing rates it was all NE and northern midwest and then Florida. Makes sense with all the spring break travel.
I really don't understand people. Yesterday during a staff meeting, one of the people wanted help navigating things to get an appt. Someone asked if she had clicked the link sent out (5 times!) to employees. No, she had not. So she ended up looking like an idiot when she clicked the link and was easily able to get an appt. I honestly don't know how it could have been even easier for her. I just don't.

I wish there were more readily available case numbers broken down by vaccine status and/or age (almost the same thing in my state still). Likewise I'm really nervous about the increases. Are we seeing a really huge increase among unvaccinated people who are acting like the pandemic is over? Or are my vaccinated parents not as well protected as we thought? I'm not sure which scares me more. Although I feel like it's probably safe to assume that for those who can't get vaccinated yet, our danger from others who also can't get vaccinated yet is probably quite a lot higher than the numbers would suggest, since (probably?) nearly all those cases are concentrated among the unvaccinated.
I wonder the areas that are seeing more increases are ones that are still opening. I can tell you for county that has now been fully open the hospitals and ICU have stabilized and cases are going down. Most places still require face coverings for the most part. I know there will be a spring break spike but so far it hasn't been that bad. Crossing my fingers the trend continues. Our county already has a good trend going for those who are vaccinated too so I am hoping that is contributing.

I'm in FL, under 40 (barely lol). I was able to book my appointment this past saturday for next week once I'm eligible. So I'd say go ahead and try now! I got lucky that a friend texted that winn dixie had a bunch of times available.
I know people like to dump on FL but I had signed up on the website for them to let me know when appointments were available for me, and I got a phone call this morning from someone to sign me up. Another friend got a call today too. I was fairly impressed. I already have something booked, but it was nice to know that would've been possible even if I hadn't been lucky enough to have a friend help me out.

Yes. I think there are lots of factors at play. That’s probably one of them. Another is what is the vaccination rate in younger populations? Is immunity wearing off in the NE? They were hit hard first. I think we will have better answers in a month.
If Texas has a spring break spike we will see it start to pop up in a week or so. I think we will. A smaller 4th wave was always expected, right? I think we are seeing it.
