H and I have our appointments! 4/13, but over an hour away. I’m excited but definitely have a vent.
NH opened up to 40-49 on Monday. People registering and getting same day appointments. Today they open for 30-39. Appointments are 2-4 weeks out. We are supposed to open to everyone on Friday. What’s the point of all this hype of “rolling out quickly” if you’re really not? I mean, the past few weeks has all been folks registering and getting appointments within days. I’m glad to have an appointment, but I’m disappointed it’s weeks away. And yes, I know that people waited a long time for appointments in January, but this isn’t what I feel like we were told to expect, if that makes sense. I feel for the under 29 crowd who is hoping to get an appointment in April. A 100-mile radius around me doesn’t have any appointments until 4/19, and we just opened moments ago.

I wouldn’t assume that more appointments won’t open up with earlier dates. A lot of places only drop about 1 week of appointments at a time. Some drop 1-2 days at a time. so while that’s the earliest you could get today it doesn’t mean something for tomorrow won’t open today. Basically—keep an eye out. I hear your frustration though.
I think once they hit 50 they should just open it up to everyone. Realistically it’s weird to me to prioritize a 40 year over a 35 year old when the risks are similar. Give everyone a chance at that point.

Thank you! At least I now know why Sununu didn’t want to open up availability to college students from out-of-state - they’ll be back home by the time they are eligible! 🤨
With the state opening up to everyone, the largest health provider here took away the exclusive access pools for priority populations. Which sucks, because some of those pools have only been open for a week.
@@@ yes I think they said the next phase will be 5 and up.
ETA: will be the next phase they have results for but trials are already in progress
@@@@
They are saying 5-11 will not be getting shots until early 2022. I am hoping it's fall but I don't even know if that is possible.
@i'm hopeful. I feel like we're hearing about the @@ teenage data earlier than expected (I think it still needs follow up safety data though? But it's only March). I'm reallyyyy crossing my fingers. @@
I checked distribution and my state is getting as much J&J next week as we are Pfizer (about the same anyway), which is a huge increase, so hopefully the trend continues. Pfizer and Moderna numbers seem flat. My big question is how much is going to the federal pharmacy programs. I don't *think* this is included in the state allocations, but I *think* is in the total vaccinated numbers by state, and I'm really curious and can't seem to find it anywhere.

It was released via WA state DOH that there have been confirmed "breakthrough" COVID cases, which sounds scary, but this was known/expected already, right? It seems they are trying to keep everything transparent, but anti-vaxers are using this as a "see vaccines don't work" already.

I just got my shot yesterday - I didn’t expect to be so emotional about it. The whole experience is done from your car here and the nurses are so upbeat and playing this fun motivational music in the building. The people who watch you after are dancing around and congratulating you and thanking you “on behalf of our health care workers, the whole community, and world.” Then they wave a cheesy checkered flag when your time is up and yell - “See you in 21 days to get that immunity pumping!” and cheesy things like that.
I had Covid and it was bad flu for me, but after knowing what my dad went through with 21 days in the hospital including 7 in the ICU. On top of how everyone, all of you included, have changed your lives to be mindful of keeping each other alive over your own wants. I just broke down and started crying in the post-vaccine line.

Yes - and the breakthrough rate is 0.01% of those vaccinated based on this article.
Out of one million fully vaccinated individuals in Washington state, epidemiologists report evidence of 102 breakthrough cases since February 1, 2021, which represents .01 percent of vaccinated people in Washington. Breakthrough cases have been identified in 18 counties. The majority of those in Washington state with confirmed vaccine breakthrough experienced only mild symptoms, if any. However, since February 1, eight people with vaccine breakthrough have been hospitalized. DOH is investigating two potential vaccine breakthrough cases where the patients died. Both patients were more than 80 years old and suffered underlying health issues.

The two deaths were what surprised me. I'm glad the DOH is investigating, and am interested in their follow up.

I’m sad, but not surprised. Maybe because I had a grandparent with an undiagnosed lung condition die after getting the flu decades ago, so I think it isn’t surprising that we will continue to see deaths from Covid similar to the other flu viral strains. I don’t expect the world to ever eradicate flu viruses - it’s impossible.
I think this is funny, but I have to admit that I signed up for a vaccine on Monday and got it Tuesday of this week. I think Suez Canal blockage analogy is more prelavent in states with higher percentage of health care workers or elderly who needed way more vaccines.
Is there a map somewhere showing wait times and such? We just moved this week to anyone 16+ can get a vaccine. I expect there will be a rush and more wait times now, but so far 6 coworkers and 4 friends all got appts for the next 10 days when signing up.

I got both of my doses in a large indoor clinic, where the vaccination room had "calming" music. The first day was whales/ocean sounds; the second day was classic Elvis hits. Both times, I was there for only 20 minutes or so, and both times, there was a conversation about the music. I love all the cheesy, upbeat, motivational stuff, but I had to laugh about waiting my 15 minutes listening to whales and Jailhouse Rock.
I'm volunteering later this month for one of the giant, drive-through centers. Apparently there was a big dip in volunteer rates as the qualifications opened up. I'm so excited to celebrate with people as they get their vaccine!

Yes. Even if nobody who was fully vaccinated died in the trials, that doesn't mean there is a 0% chance of death post-vaccination. It just means that the risk is very low.
I'm sad for the two who died and their lived ones.

One thing to remember is that a vaccine is not a guarantee of immunity, it largely depends on the immune system of the person who receives it. These two may have had compromised immune systems or other conditions that prevented them from mounting the desired defence. It’s unfortunate, but it does happen, and will continue to happen in elderly populations.

Well people over the age of 80 die pretty regularly, that's past life expectancy in this country :/ Yes of course I'm mourning all the lives that were likely cut shorter than expected due to covid even those who were 80, 90, 100+, but it is not surprising to me that people over the age of 80 are going to die after having covid even if they've been vaccinated.
It also said they were both over 80 with underlying conditions.
I wasn't aware that anyone (including the most vulnerable) could still have serious complications after vaccination.
People, especially people over 80, die from respiratory viruses. It's certainly sad, but medically speaking it's not terribly surprising when someone over the age of 80, especially if they have any medical conditions dies. The immune system at age 80 is not the same as someone at age 20 (in general).

Washington is opening up eligibility to everyone on April 15!! This is moved up from May 1. I cheered out loud during the press conference. Now hopefully I can get an appointment!

Thanks for the explanation (and from PPs too).
My mentality has been so set on waiting for the cure/vaccine. Yes, I know the vaccine isn't a real cure, but it's been a long year and my goal posts to "normal" keep moving, and I'm forgetting the sad reality of the frailty of life. Thanks for the reality checks.
I've been trying to keep up with the various aspects of how the virus attacks the body (and the huge differences in how it affects different bodies) and how the vaccination process works from research/trials/emergency use authorization/FDA approval. I really appreciate this board and the knowledge so many of you have been able to share this past year+.

My sister and her H got appointments for tomorrow!! This means that as of tomorrow evening everyone in my close immediate family and my H's family has gotten at least 1 shot.
