i swear every time i was forced by the Army in it's infinite wisdom to give me the flu mist/shot, i felt like crap for days afterwards and i always never fail got the flu that year. when i don't get it, i NEVER get the flu. i get sinus infections and had pnuemonia last year which i'm blaming on my coworker who sat next to me coming in with it rather than staying home or in the hospital, but it is so rare that i ever get the flu.
even when we went back to NE for Thanksgiving last year, my nephew had it, and DH got it from him...i didn't get sick at all.
i do support all other vaccines, and pretty much have everything you can think of including small pox and anthrax series.
would i make my kids get the flu shot, for sure....but i don't have any yet. maybe then, i'd get one too, doubt i can convince DH to get one...he never keeps up on vaccines and on our honeymoon had to get a tetanus shot since the last one he had was in high school.
Healthy people should still get the shot. I know a healthy 26 year old that got the flu and died.
Point being, your current state of healthiness isn't an immunity.
Thankyou for sharing. I am sorry for your friend
We have enough non-preventable causes of death (cancer, arthritis, terrorism) to add things we can prevent.
For the person who gets a cold when you get the shot, you can get a mild immune response. You shouldnt have cold symptoms per se, but you may feel tired, even mildly feverish but it is just your body responding to the vaccine. And pretty rare.
I have an autoimmune disorder, so I should get every vaccine imaginable, but the last one almost killed me due to an allergic reaction in one of the ingredients that is common in many vaccines. Cardiac arrest < influenza.
So, for all those responsible people who are getting vaccines, thanks!
To all those who aren't, hopefully you don't get the flu and spread it to someone with a shitty immune system and kill them. If that's how I die I'll come back to MM to haunt you assholes.
