I agree there was mental illness with both. My issue is that the guy who shot the cops was known to be mentally ill at the time, yet he was being called animal, thug, and the like. This guy, who we don't know anything about, is being given the benefit of the doubt. I haven't heard him called an animal or a thug.
I was happy to see our local elected official, Mike Seekings, call him a thug in his TV interview this morning. This is being recognized as a racist act by our police chief as well as our mayor...At least as far as I can tell, most people are viewing it this way around here.
I think he was mentally ill. I think the guy who shot the cops was mentally ill as well. I'm ok with saying he was mentally ill.

Will South Carolina fly its Confederate flag at half-staff?
On Wednesday night, nine people were murdered by a white man in a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina. A hate crime.
And someone has raised a good question: Will South Carolina honor the victims by flying its Confederate flag at half-staff?
I thought they took that shit down from the capital?
I went to college at UoS.Carolina and went to two protests on the capital about the flag. I would have gone to more but there were only 2 while I was there. This was back in 2000/2001. I really thought it had come down.
I agree with others here that the difference in narrative here is awful. Awful, heartbreaking, mind-boggling, defeating. I am not trying to make this political, but at least HRC brought racial disparity up in her recent talk following the baltimore shootings. I will vote for her b/c she is at least willing to talk about the issue.
how old is she? I would ignore at at toddler age, personally. That is what I am doing with DS who was 2 in January-lots of penis play that I just ignore. For my DD, who is 5.5, I make it a point to tell her that's normal, everyone does it, but we do it in private.
my dd once asked my DH why he was pooping in the shower. he told her he wasn't and she asked "then what are those brown balls coming out of your butt?" that was the last time he let her see him naked. she was probably 3 at the time.
During the kid's bath the other night DD (who is 5) said I was the best mom ever and it's mom appreciation night. DS (who is 2), on the other hand, told me to "go away" and when I told him that wasn't nice he said, "go cook the dinner." Wtf where do they come up with these things. Admittedly that line has had me chuckling for the past 2 days.
Can I ask you about the inguinal/axillary freckling? My DS has no cafe au lait spots but has a couple small freckles around his groin. He is 2. Do you remember when those spots first appeared for you? Are there a lot? One thing I read said that any freckling in the groin is very indicative of NF1 but our pedi seems not super concerned since he only has a few. She doesn't recommend seeing a specialist unless more freckling materializes but I'm not sure what to do.
I can't recall when they appeared - although I was pretty young according to my mom.
As Captain Serious pointed out, though, you do need more than one symptom. If you are unaware of anyone in your family with the disorder and right now he only has the inguinal freckling, I would worry too much.
I wasn't diagnosed until I was 37, and only because I googled, called the clinic because I was concerned, and the specialist wanted to see me. It was confirmed with a blood test, but I could have lived my entire life never knowing I had it.
Just keep an eye on him, but for now don't let it worry you.
Thank you so much for responding. I'm so glad to hear you have a mild case.

I can't answer about when they appear, but did want to say that you need at least two things on the list to be diagnosed with NF1. So if you don't have a family history and he only had the freckling, I wouldn't be too worried without any other signs.
yes so far it's just the freckling and no other symptoms but I *thought* it was usually the freckling or cafe au lait spots that led to checking for the 2nd symptom. I will try not to worry. And thank you for responding when dealing with your own child today. I hope he's out of the MRI by now.
I have NF1, but only have cafe au laits and inguinal / axillary freckling. No tumors or optic gliomas.
When they tested me for optic gliomas, though, they dilated my eyes and looked at them using a special scope. Did they do that for J?
MRIs are fairly regular for people with NF1, so don't worry too much that it's been brought up. I've had s few since my diagnosis and everything has been fine each time.

If you like the tikka recipe you should try the Chicken Korma Recipe he just posted. I made it yesterday and it's really good for when you don't have the time to marinate the chicken for tikka masala.
I just sent that link to my DH yesterday and told him i'm putting it on next week's meal plan.
tonight i'm grilling the green chicken from nom nom paleo. i hope it's good.
I wonder where all of those people are getting their info. I just looked at wapo and wjla and neither have this story on their first page at the moment.
I also think it's probably 90+ pages of the same 5 people posting over and over again. They obviously think they are SO important. Ugh
Last night my husband made grilled mahi mahi which he marinated in lime juice and coconut milk and served it with a salad/salsa of mango, red pepper, lime, cilantroa, and serrano chiles.
Tonight: chicken kabobs with tomatoes, peppers, and pineapple on the skewers
Tuesday: Kids are having pesto pasta and I'm having roasted chicken with pesto zoodles
Smoked ribs w/ balsamic grilled butternut squash Salmon cakes from Well Fed 2 Meat sauce over spaghetti squash. I'm going to try the meat sauce recipe from Well Fed 2. Not W30 b/c of the honey but Adobo Lime pork chops from So Tasty So Yummy (I think she does pork loin, I do chops and grill). Grilled chicken with roasted asparagus Salad w/ chicken from a grocery store rotisserie chicken with Tessemae's dressing, avocado, olives, HB egg, tomatoes, etc.
Go to Sally's Beauty supply and get colored mousse. OMG it is the most fun thing in the world to have streaks, and it washes out with the first shampoo. Actually, normally I do streaks but tomorrow I'm going to try blue ombre.
Be sure to use gloves though because it will last the day on your hands, too. And a tiny bit goes a long way.
This is the stuff I have. It comes in blue, pink, red, purple and I think one other color that I'm just not remembering. Maybe a copper or something.
(Never mind; I misread that you DIDN't want it to last.)
do you know how this will fare with dark hair? My DD wants colored hair for crazy hiar day but I don't want it to last more than a couple washes. Thanks!!
Sometimes I'm really jealous of my friends who have babies and don't get PPD. I don't WANT them to have it but when I see people just totally happy, able to have newborns like it's no big thing it just makes me sad that I pretty much missed out on the first four months of Henry's life. It just looks so easy for so many of my friends/family. Why did it have to be so hard for me?
sometimes I want to have baby #3 just b/c of this. the psychologist i saw after baby #2 said if I had a third i'd have to go on zoloft at the beginning of third tri, start seeing her, and we could totally control it. I want a newborn phase where i'm not crying 24/7 and wishing my children hadn't been born
I am trying ,trying so hard not to call them and see how she, I know they will call me and give me the update as I am the news passer on at this point but fuck. I have texted people about stupid things and I haven't even talked to them in years. I made lasagna, baked ziti, meatballs and I don't know how to make any other casserole dish type things and I am freaking out here. I am looking up casseroles and then I going to go to the store and then go by my house to see how my family is doing and get dinner for them. Do people eat a lot of casseroles when they just need to heat up something or should I make something smaller? Should I buy microwave stuff? I don't want to buy fruit or something bc it could go bad if they don't see it or eat it. Ham keeps for awhile, right?
you could get a rotisserie chicken and make chicken quesadillas that can be frozen in individual servings.
