I have mine in a science from a state school on east coast. I then did a post doc at NIH. I hated it, hated research, and my advisor was horrible. But I couldn’t have my current job without it, and So for that reason it was worth it. If I could do it all over again, I would go to med school or become a therapist. Or have married rich. My current dream is to not work
Yes I few the same way. Work is so stressful right now and I just feel that between work and kids I’ve given all of myself and have nothing left. I’ve been feeling particularly bad lately
How old is she? The track series by Jason Reynolds is a great Realistic Fiction series, it starts with Ghost. There’s a great series about 3 friends that starts with Raymie Nightingale. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is still popular and so is the Princess diaries series. There are a lot of Mystery series. The Truly Devious series is fantastic, but I would say 12 & up for that one.
She is 10. I will check these out, thanks! Some of her favorite books are Front Desk and Miscalculations of Lightning Girl. Ghost sounds right up her alley!
When looking to support black owned businesses I found a bookstore, brave and kind books. They have a lot of great stuff and I got DD both of the books your daughter likes (she also loved keeper of the lost cities). Happy to share some of my daughters other favorites we got from there. One is the unteachables by Gordon korman. Another was when you reach me by Rebecca stead. Happy to share other recs if you’d like. www.braveandkindbooks.com/
ETA has she read the Raina Tagelmier books? Graphic novels that were big hits with DD and her friends
YES! My daughter was recently diagnosed with this. At her 8 year old appointment I brought up that she recently had gotten some public hair. She referred us to an endocrinologist and did the growth plate x-ray and blood work. Her bone age showed she was 10.5 which meant that she would likely stop growing early. The endocrinologist did some additional blood work and an abdominal ultrasound. The ultrasound was the deciding factor to treat because she was showing ovary development that meant she would get her period in elementary school which I really wanted to avoid. She is doing hormone suppressing shots every 6 months for 2 years. One we stop at 10.5, she will then begin puberty again.
Any signs of puberty before 8 should have a follow-up.
My son is on his way to this diagnosis. He just turned 8, has some pubic hair and so went off to endo. his bone scan showed age 11! Bloodwork will come back next week. I really wasn’t expecting those bone age results bc my daughter also head early hair but t turned out to be nothing. Good Iuck to your DD.
OP I would definitely go to pedi for this-that is what I did for my DD and they didn’t think it needed a further step. For DS they thought it looked more suspicious. Worth going to get checked out
I just looked at Costco online and it says members only but shipping out the week of 12/14 (which is Monday). So realistically it might arrive by Xmas. Is it something your mom could order for you?
You saw it available? I see it as saying sold out?
ETA: I think I might have gotten one. I got an order number and the charge is showing as pending on my credit card, but until I get the actual confirmation email I'm not going to believe it.
Oh man wish I had seen this. Trying to get one of these is crazy!
Possible TW... Monday night around 11pm my husband suffered a major seizure. I had to call the squad. He came around and they took him to the hospital. They obviously ran a lot of tests and scans. Yesterday they told us he has a brain tumor. 😭
The neurologist and neurosurgeon are optimistic that it can be removed. It’s a slow growing one that has probably been there for years, until Monday when it triggered a seizure. He’s been released home and is on anti-seizure meds.
We’re getting a second opinion. Hopefully at Ohio State or Riverside. But I’m open to all possibilities.
How do I do this?! I’m so scared. How do we do this?
I’m open to any advice anyone has who’s been through something like this.
I’m so so scared.
I found my brother with a brain tumor in April. Like your husband, slow growing-none of us had any idea. He was about an hour from dying according to his neurosurgeon-he went to first hospital where they found it and then transferred him to trauma hospital for emergency surgery Bc his Brain was so full of CSF. This was a Sunday. He was completely nonresponsive Sunday night but then started to respond early Monday. On Tuesday they did the MRI and on Wednesday determined it was benign but huge and in a bad area. They took about 75% out the following day. He walked out of the hospital a week later. His short term memory was pretty bad for a few months but conflictive therapy really helped. He’s about 1.5 years out and you can’t tell anything happened. He will continue having MRIs for life to monitor the growth since the part that is left cannot be removed bc of the location.
It was a horrific experience. But there is hope. Please reach out to me if needed. I am happy to answer any questions. I’ll be thinking of you.
I have a really dumb Q. MSNBC is giving results that include early mail in votes. What states still need to count over the next few days-mostly just PA or are there others? Sorry such a dumb Q
Michigan is one. Counting for mail-in ballots doesn't start until the polls closed at 9PM (I believe).

I hope this is ok to ask here. I know there are a lot of NJ voters. Has anyone's ballot been "accepted" yet? I thought they could start counting 10 days before Election Day so I hoping mine would be marked as accepted. It's not really clear on line when they change from received to accepted. Anyone know exactly how it works? I am in Essex county if that matters.m
I stole this from the local NJ board...
from the division of elections website (below where you log in):
Ballot status information (i.e. – received, etc.) is provided by the counties via an automated process. The amount of time it takes until updates post to the Track My Ballot tool may vary from county to county. A voter's ballot status won’t be changed to "Accepted" or "Rejected" until after the certification of the Election, on November 20th. Please check back periodically for updates to your ballot stat
Related to that article, this tweet is making my stomach churn with anxiety:
Yes that’s what I saw too which prompted me to look at the article. It is sooooo scary. When he won in 2016 I said I didn’t think he’d ever leave and I meant it. But now that we’re here and we know there are no checks and balances, it is just unbelievable to me that there is no one to step in and stop this.
And the I lose my shit at how narrowly he won in a few states And how the third party votes made all the difference.

I just suggested That DH get one. We went to WDW and universal at the very end of January and we all came home sick but DH was terribly sick with respiratory and flu like symptoms but negative for flu. He took almost 2 weeks off Work which is unheard of for him. Id like him to get the Ab test bc the lifelong Health implications associated with this virus seem extremely concerning and I would like for him to know if he had it. I realize that the time for finding out has likely passed but I still think it’s worth the test
I don’t care how dumb his answers were. Instead I’m giving abc a huge side eye for giving him this opportunity when they know he’s a huge freaking liar and the fact they they say they would “fact check” will do nothing. Some people will watch this, say he seemed reasonable, and vote for him. I really just think it was foolish and dangerous of the network
I'm not a journalist, so I don't know the answer to this, but is it unethical to cover/interview a known liar? I definitely stopped watching CNN long ago because there is no reason to cover trump every single day and every single tweet, so I think there is a line. But interviewing him or having a town hall at all, is that really the line? Obviously I hate trump, but I don't think it's fair to say that news networks should never interview him. That's not what democracy is about, that's a slippery slope.
I get this POV too. It just seems like he got so much press in 2016 bc he said horrible things and that contributed to his election. I worry the format of last night does the same

My boss took away my job and gave it to her daughter’s best friend, and had the audacity to tell me I should be thankful they were calling it a layoff. She sucked, and that job sucked, and getting out when I did turned out to be a good thing for my career. But I’m still mad.
My SIL was pregnant when H and I got engaged. ILs took the whole family out to dinner to announce/celebrate it, and SIL decided that was the perfect opportunity to announce her baby names. She made everything all about her/them for the rest of the night. Normally I don’t like being the center of attention and am relieved when SIL takes over, but I’m still annoyed that she couldn’t let us have one night.
