I'm just coming back in, I'm sorry to hear this isn't something legitimate
I am very hopeful you can find something soon, I really do think that having money of your own and getting to the point where you are fully independent will be a huge change for your situation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you find something soon...and as others have said, I would considering anything (minus the scams) right now.
Also, I would think about making your resume private on the job search sites, and just let them see it when you submit it for a position - I feel like too many scammy, and others will be able to see it and not give you the type of job that you're hoping for.
Have you looked at your state's Workforce Services website? That's how I ended up in my career. They'll have all sorts of listings that you might not really have thought about applying to off the top of your head. My state's did anyway. I'm sorry that it's going so poorly for you.

Hey all, I've written down all your sites and Workplace information and I will be doing a lot of research tonight. I just got back browsing 2 malls for Now Hiring signs as well as the surrounding restaurants. I also emailed the staffing agency, two other injuries and the call center position.
I'm chalking this whole experience up to practice. I hardly interview, and I thought I did a good job, in comparison from previous experiences.
The prostitution thing was over the top, yes, but at this point I'm going to be $400 in the hole with only $100 in my account and time is running out for me.
I'm looking for any job at this point, menial or not. I'm just tired of taking a step back when I really should be moving forward at this time in my life. I'm not doing myself any favors.
Have you considered Starbucks? Your sandwich shop experience would be relevant and it would be a national company with medical benefits and room for a little advancement rather than the poorly run mom and pop store where you used to work.
(Yes, there are six figure jobs that cold contact potential applicants. We get flyers for them weekly. But they are specifically seeking board certified physicians and even so these are the jobs most doctors don't want because the hospital or location or both are undesirable. "Conveniently located half way between SF and Vegas!")

You may have given a great interview. The scamminess of the company says nothing about your performance while there.

I'm networking with a friend of mine to be a state caregiver for the mentally challenged. I've already submitted my resume and background check to them. I called them to confirm they were hiring, and they are. So I'll wait on that. A friend of mine is pushing me to apply to her store, but it's a 2 hour commute (one hour each way) for a part time job at minimum wage, but I did apply to her business in the close proximity, using her as a reference. Admittedly, a good chunk of my friends are bums that refuse to work.

Well, just fyi: don't say mentally challenged. Are they developmentally disabled? You need to be as PC as possible.

I might stick with adults with disabilities or maybe adults with special needs, since they all won't have the same diagnosis. also - Mental Retardation has been changed to Intellectual Disability and remember people first language - Adult with autism, not an autistic adult

Depends on the disability. Intellectual disability is the most recent term, at least where I am. And it is always people first language... A person with disabilities, not a disabled person. A person with Downs Syndrome, not a Downs Syndrome person, etc . (not that either of you did that wrong, it's a personal pet peeve and been drilled in us by the state )

According to my friend, she helps with day-to-day tasks of those who were deemed able to take care of themselves (rent an apartment, hold a job etc.) but unable to do the basic things like laundry and bill paying. Sometimes, she's required to take a few to NA meetings.
I apologize for the term. I thought that was the phrase Proboards used here. Developmentally disabled.

A cousin of mine does this. She loves it so much. She was kind of directionless before getting this job, but found it so rewarding that she went back to college to get a degree in social work and just graduated this May.

Constantly changing it with little or no difference in the meaning is pointless to me. Of course when the understanding of the different diagnosis change there should be updates but how are "mentally disabled" and "intellectually disabled" really different?
It makes it difficult for people to describe people in a respectful way which is the exact opposite of the intention (I assume.)

1. 11 people so far do NOT believe that I am the biggest asshole here. I do not CARE anyways, because 1a. I do NOT believe this shit any longer. 2. I have pretty much given up on using the most updated language. People first, always, but MR is still a very commonly thrown around term at my company. I use either the actual diagnosis (spectrum, down's, etc) or, if it's to someone non-HIPAA'ed, the vaguest language possible. I will not make an ass of myself falling over myself. 2a. One of the SpEd teachers in the room today called something retarded. My eyes fell out of my head. Then I felt like a hypocrite, because I've used it before. But TIME and PLACE, woman.

Don't get too down on yourself! It happened to H too a few years back when he was job searching. I'm glad you found out and now you can focus on your other interviews. Good luck!!
ETA- Just read that the other interviews were scams too. I'm so sorry! I second the suggestions that you have already gotten. And the job you mentioned sounds great! I am a para and I work with high school students with autism and I love it! It's so rewarding.

I just can't. You are like a sad, dumb puppy @simplypenguin. I agree with PP that I'm not sure how you function IRL. I feel like you're just here for the attention and it fucking annoys me.
Are you 22? I don't know how anyone can't see the signs. Like, it's seriously blowing my mind how naive you're making yourself out to be. So, I'm new, but I'm calling bullshit here.

Well now, this I'd consider an over reaction.
Considering your problem that you came here for and how you explained in circles, we could have said the same about you. But eventually you got it. I'm not a simplypenguin fan, but seriously; pot meet kettle.
ETA: Never mind, you did not get it. You had something in front of your face for a long time and never noticed a real problem. YOU WERE NAIVE. The worst Simply did, in this post, was to fall for a scam. How in the hell are you getting off calling someone naive when you blindly turned your eyes to what your own husband was doing with your sister?

I kind of figured someone would say this. Yes, I was talking it out here. I'm still figuring my shit out. But all of this? She's been here way longer than me. I remember her SN from when I was a lurker. I just can't get past the "woe is me" shit here. It seems like an attention grab.

And so does yours. One could argue that she is talking out how to proceed in life as well. Who cares if she was here longer? Who cares.
You aren't exactly the most upstanding poster to be calling out Simply here.

I call it like I see it. I don't really think that I'm not entitled to an opinion just because my personal life isn't perfect.
I'm not blind. I'm dealing with it. I wouldn't have posted it here for judgement if I wasn't prepared to deal with the flames as a result.
