While I can understand wanting to post on a more trafficked board, isn't that a problem that solves itself? You all move to the board for makeup, and you get your old cohort plus new people. Does a community you know really have a better ability to talk about fucking makeup than people you don't?

Well we also have a book club on MM. We just all decide on a book and then start some posts about it. You certainly don't need a sub-board for it

But even if you did create a PCE sub-board for your book club, I think that's great! One more board for me to browse. I like to lurk on almost all the boards but I really only post on MM and sometimes on this one. But I think I will try to post more actively now that we have GBCN.

NBC desperately needs new blood.

They seem to read the same five things and spend months talking about one book.

NBC was insanely cliquey. The new Books board (sub board of hobbies, apparently) is pretty nice, since it seems to be all new people. NBC is one of the lone hold-outs on TN (they escaped to the Harry Potter sub board which did not convert to the new format, I guess). But yeah, there was complaining on the new board about how the old board used to only talk about YA fiction.

I read political non-fic, so I'm down for that, but IIRC, someone mentioned we all should read Winner-Take-All-Politics and then discuss it in, like, March, and no one did. I read it last month, finally!

Honestly Pixy, what is it to you? If you've lurked enough on MM you'd know that a) a good amount of the board was irritated by the amount of makeup talk and b) that MMers used the tax sub board to talk about makeup. So a sub board over here, that is accessible to all, isn't all that revolutionary.

I guess I don't understand why the complaining MMers didn't just tell the make up loving horz to post on F&B and why the other make up loving horz didn't just IDK, reply to their MM friends' F&B posts.

Now the bump thing I can understand however, this isn't the bump and the bump hasn't migrated. Some people on some boards have but not in such a massive scale that you can't ingratiate yourself over there.

I lurk on mm a fair amount. I could see being irritated by the makeup posts. I just don't get why the solution is to create a sub board when there's already a board for the very thing you're discussing. The baby thing makes more sense bc the bump is crazy, and parenting is a more contentious matter. Or maybe I'm wrong, and mascara can spawn as many pages as circumcision or bf vs ff.

I'm pretty sure we understand being on a board with people you like. A lot of people posting in this thread consider this their "home board" on TN. I do. But I'm not going to bug people here to discuss books with me, or even pets, even though I know people here like books and pets, because there are board that are more on topic, with people who are knowledgeable specifically about those things. Also, I don't mind talking to new people or making new friends.

It's great that a lot of MM posters are knowledgeable about makeup, but I still don't understand why they can't all just post on F&B. Wow, there might be some non-MM people there. You might even like them, who knows. The sub-board is no skin off my back, since I rarely go to MM and I really have no knowledge of makeup. It just strikes me as people who are scared to move out of their bubble.

To be fair, Pixy, I think you coming in changed some of that. The old regs did love up on each other a lot, and some of the newer posters got missed. But that's the same for all of the boards.

We all need to stop thinking of GBCN as TN 2.0. It's not and that was the whole point, yes?
