Seriously??!! If Trump is your Republican option, you would really vote for him? Someone who is outright racist? If the Dems nominated a bigot, I would vote Republican before I would vote for the bigot. This bothers me so much. I'm sorry Tillie, I really don't ever attack anyone on here, but this is so upsetting to me.
Believe me, I hope it doesn't come to it. I still feel Trump may pull something closer to the primaries. However, HRC is a criminal and crook and Bernie has Robinhood syndrome
I hoping it will be Rubio, who I'm still not thrilled about.
Well, I was about to ask for (evidence-based) reasoning as to how Hillary or Bernie could possibly be worse, but never mind, I won't bother.
You would actually vote for a racist, misogynistic pig who mocked a disabled reporter and wants to block Muslim Americans from re-entering the country before you'd vote third party?

Wait, so being blatantly racist, having zero understanding of foreign policy, and being praised by Vladimir Putin is preferable to "Robinhood syndrome"?

Is voting 3rd party not an option? Or, not voting at all?

Question:how is voting for a walking, talking pile of garbage not throwing away your vote? Sincerely. Not based on anything partisan. Just the complete bullshit that comes out of his mouth and the horrifying rhetoric he encourages.

This is what all my Republican law school classmates plan to do (at least the ones who've posted about it on Facebook). One said that if it's Trump vs. Hillary, he will vote third party or abstain, recognizing that doing so is essentially a vote for Hillary. His reasoning was that while he can't bring himself to vote for Hillary (a position I can respect knowing what his political positions are), he also thinks the country is better off with her as president than Trump and that voting for Trump sends a message to the GOP that this type of candidate is acceptable. I genuinely appreciate his position. If the GOP were putting up the kind of candidates he wanted, I think the country would be better for it because it would contribute to improved political discourse overall and better debate and compromise between the two parties.

The real long-term problem with voting for Trump in the general is that it sends the message to the GOP that this kind of candidate is acceptable, that this is the kind of candidate Republican voters want. And that means we will see more candidates in his mold.
If it's HRC vs. Trump and HRC wins partly because Republicans abstain or vote third party, it sends a message to the party that this is unacceptable. The hope is that the party would do some serious thinking and put up a strong, serious candidate in 2020. Sixteen straight years of a single party in the White House is pretty unusual, so perhaps they would be well-positioned to regain the White House with a good candidate.
If the Republicans win with a serious candidate in 2020, the future of our country will be much better for having had four years of an imperfect president who is respected by world leaders than by having had four years of Assbag Trump.
I'm looking at this long-term as far as our standing around the world, and Trump will bring that down further than ANY OTHER CANDIDATE. There is absolutely no question about that.
For years, liberals have accused the GOP of being racists, racists, misogynists, etc. Asking her why someone like tillie why they'd vote for a racist who will embarrass America is probably a question they've been asked for years. And one they will be asked about regardless. I mean Rubio the "moderate" supported that misogynist piece of garbage known as Florida's Scarlet Letter law. These people are used to having people lodge these accusations against them, so I imagine they don't resonate at all.
People have ignored these accusations for years when their politicians were just using dog whistles. Why do we think they care when they are loud and proud racists?

If, god forbid, Trump gets elected, I very much doubt he would serve a full term. I feel pretty certain that he'd do something worthy of impeachment before too long and be booted out.
So tell me more about how voting third-party is throwing away your vote.

tillie I'm assuming you liked my response above because you know there is no actual fact behind the ludicrous assertion that trump is the better choice.

Then shouldn't all GOPers be rallying your own party and those you know who vote republican to NOT vote for him in the primary?! If you are a GOPer who doesn't want to swallow the Trump pill, then shame them with this article if you want - knowing something is wrong in the eyes of Americans and then voting for them anyway is wrong. I said the same thing to a relative who is a GOP member, but thinks their candidate will "just be Trump no matter who I vote for."
You individuals in the GOP are deciding if your candidate is a rude, ridiculous joke of a candidate or someone who has can lead your party to changes that would not take away someone's rights, but instead enhance their economic abilities, and represent the whole US in world/national affairs.
And what mentality is it to just vote party line b/c you are "throwing away" your vote? You throw your vote away if you check "Trump" b/c he could possibly win in the electoral college, but he will likely be so unpopular that his presidency will be useless and you'll get nothing you had hoped for anyway.
He is delusional in his ability to change and is promising things that aren't even relatively realistic or legal.
He will likely screw up the Supreme Court (once said his left-of-center sister judge was amazing, and then took that back and said that even John Roberts - who gutted campaign finance and has promoted business/corporate needs over individuals is too moderate).
He will likely try over and over, without consensus to stop immigration - both from overseas and from Mexico and Central America. Building a wall is a stupid platform and then on top of that he romanticizes old 1940's and 1950's programs where immigrants were rounded up and dropped back outside the US or put in camps/isolated (Link). And he's actually delusional or overly self congratulatory b/c he has said his immigration policies would have stopped 9/11. He is so focused on claiming that everything that was done in the past was wrong that he isn't even realistic or idealistic about what to actually do in the future. He has no vision, just revision.
His goal for the economy may be the only thing that you may agree with... and is that enough? It's not just a talking point, "Make America Better Again," but again it's very revisionist. Including things like a 0% corporate tax to create more jobs and then individuals can make up that tax loss by paying their taxes. Stop corporate inversion and therefore make it hard to take jobs overseas, but the wealthy should be able to move their money overseas without barriers. Cut defense budget, entire EPA, and Dept. of Education (said in October), but then turned around and wants to start a huge war within Syria and against ISIS. The whole of EPA and Department of Education just b/c they take up, 2.5% of our budget?! EPA's funding has been cut by 75% in the last 30 years anyway, and now you just want another 0.5%the budget back?!
However, he is for keeping the mortgage deduction in taxes, but wants to get rid of the money you pay your hedge fund broker when you make money on those types of investments (carried interest). He's also pro using the debt ceiling as a bargaining chip in order to push legislation that is not supported by a majority through congress. Link
And there is so much more. I mean, you can't keep him in the race, GOP! I'm holding it on the moderate GOPers if he gets elected, you can't be complacent to someone who is not right for the country. And if you think he is right, I am not above thinking you are delusional also.
I post way too much anti-Trump stuff on my Facebook, I don't know that anyone would tell me that they're in favor of him. I know I need to stop posting so much political stuff, but people need to know!
What I am saying relates not to Trump, but to conservative/Republican beliefs in general.
People are very likely not to post conservative political beliefs on FB because they will be attacked and jumped with such venom if they do. There is a DEFINITE chilling effect.
What? Have you ever read the comments of any news article posted on FB? If I had a dollar for every anti-Obama meme I'd be rolling in bills.

I think it is the old saying "his shit don't stink"
I love that people forget that tillie is extremely far right.
Haven't forgotten. But I don't think that should be a reasonable excuse to shrug her shoulders and say "welp, guess I just have to vote for the bigot that's buddies with Putin."
I love that people forget that tillie is extremely far right.
I haven't forgotten. I know she is extremely conservative. I appreciate that she posts here as it can't be easy given the views of most on the board. I still didn't think she would vote for Trump. He isn't just conservative. He is something else all together.
I love that people forget that tillie is extremely far right.
There is extremely far right, and then there is just plain stupid. Trump is NOT extremely far right. He is just plain stupid. Anyone who would vote for stupid is, well, stupid.
This very well thought out message was brought to you by the fact that I am working on four hours of sleep and my office is currently a construction zone without a door.
I love that people forget that tillie is extremely far right.
I still find it shocking that she'd vote for Trump. I know a number of very far right people who will not vote for Trump. They won't vote for a Democrat, either, but they will vote third party or abstain before voting for Trump.
He isn't even conservative. He has the most progressive tax plan of any of the R candidates. And building a wall on the border of Mexico is an insanely expensive endeavor, and will not be paid for by Mexico, so having Americans foot the bill is anything but conservative.
He appeals to the xenophobic chucklefucks that can't fathom the idea of anyone that doesn't look like them being accepted and living peacefully in our country. It's unfortunate that someone is so stuck on voting along party lines would vote for someone so vile.

She'll vote party line. Much like others here that would vote for a Dem regardless of candidate. Which is why I don't find it shocking in the least.

A very conservative friend of mine just posted a big thing on FB about why Trump is basically the antithesis of what the GOP is supposed to stand for. I agreed with almost every single point he made.
When a very conservative Republican and a very liberal Democrat are agreeing on politics, you know that pigs are flying.
He's kind of right, but not for the reason offered. Trump isn't popular because Obama's politics are divisive and "politically correct" (seriously, when did this make a comeback in the GOP?). Trump is popular because uneducated white people have freaked the fuck out over having a black president, plain and simple.
You would actually vote for a racist, misogynistic pig who mocked a disabled reporter and wants to block Muslim Americans from re-entering the country before you'd vote third party?
Really?
REALLY?!
But but but HRC is a criminal and a crook and Bernie has Robinhood syndrome.
I totally read all of tillie's political posts in Rush Limbaugh's voice.

I really don't care who tillie votes for. There are plenty of candidates I'd hold my nose and vote for if I had to. I do care that she thinks she will have "no choice" but to vote for Trump. There is always another choice (third party, write-in). Not voting is a choice although I have a hard time supporting not voting (well, depending on the circumstances), but alas, it is an option.
