Well, lemme go ahead and weigh in here since it's only about 3 times a year that my opinion matters.
FTR, I left the party over a year ago. I'm very happy to not claim either crap party. If it's Rubio v Hillary, I will likely vote Rubio (his statement on BLM did a lot to convince me he IS a moderate at his core) anyone else, and I'll vote Hillary because of Foreign Policy (y'all know she's a hawk, right). I don't know 1 single Republican that supports Trump. I do know some that I could see voting for him if he won the nom, but they are not people I think highly of. People like my parents would likely not vote at all, although I would talk long and hard with them about making a statement by voting 3rd party.
R candidates saying they'd support Trump if he was the nominee? Whatever. Party unity is a thing on all sides. Saying otherwise, especially at this stage of the game, would be complete and total political suicide. . Dumb in many ways, but especially if they DON'T want Trump to represent the party. But whatever--Lord knows I'm not going to convince a damn one of you that there are R candidates that aren't minions of the devil himself (or Adolph Hitler/Pol Pot/Dick Cheney for the Atheists).
And finally, anonymous polls are such BS. Nothing says "fuck with the real answers" like an anonymous poll. And I think the majority of y'all would LOVE to see Trump as the candidate. Slam dunk win, death of the R party, blah, blah, blah.
You are so damn ridiculous. Ain't nobody in here running around yelling about how all the R candidates are minions of the damn Devil. Hell, folks have even said they could deal with Rubio/Jeb!. For somebody who claims not to be part of any party, you sure as shit are quick to get all up in your fucking feelings when people start bitching about the R's. Trump is the focus of this thread and you still want to roll up on your Martyrmobile with this bullsit. Bye Felicia.
Her comments weren't out of nowhere. She was responding to my question of whether we think support for Trump by a fellow candidate equates to support for Trump's actual policies and crazy shit.
The fact that the candidates are claiming to support Trump to prevent further rise in the polls from him working the persecution angle is a point I had not heard before, and a good one. I'm still very squeamish over the fact that the party is not doing more to eject him and accept whatever loss comes of it, but it's reasonable point. I asked the question to get answers like this, and she waded in despite the chaos in this thread, so I appreciate that.
OK, I am super behind this thread but I have to shout here - WHY are you agreeing with and quoting people who basically are calling you simple? You are 100% acknowledging that you're not giving it an awful lot of thought because "gosh I'm a GOP voter." I don't know whether to laugh or cry but JFC - the BEST you can do is "eww I don't like democrats"? God help us.
Also, again, super far behind the thread -but I also have to shout that I don't buy Trump's shtick for a second. His views have changed? Fuck that - if he saw a power vacuum in fucking Peru he'd move there to try to broker power. He doesn't have a "political agenda" or platform. He doesn't have "beliefs." He has a pathological case of hubris and megalomania. If he were running as a Dem, spouting the same lines as Bernie or promising income equality, full paid maternity leave and universal health care I wouldn't buy that either and STILL WOULD NOT VOTE FOR HIM. He is positively transparent and I weep that anyone takes his hunger for fame as a sincere interest or representation of their beliefs. It's pathetic.
A Trump America in 2016. Flush.
Well this took a turn.
Ditto everything EPPHD said. However, it still terrifies me how many people in this country want this piece of shit to be president.
I think if a candidate came out that was 100% committed to doing something, anything, about climate change, but was racist... I'd vote for them.
Good to know that melting glaciers trumps Black Lives Matter. Because - my black ass will always be black and this right here is why we have entire discussions about inter-sectional feminism. Because in the grand scheme of life - there will always be more pressing issues than ensuring that the centuries of institutional racism are broken down.
*writes it down for future reference*
And y'all wonder why black folks don't trust shit folks have to say. Right here folks.
And yes, I'm salty as hell about this statement. Because before I'd vote for a Dem nominee, I'd ensure that the person was not racist and was pro-choice. I don't pick the least of these things because they are the least important. But, hey, rights are only important to the oppressed, so carry on.
I...I....I don't even know what to say to this all, Pixy. I think I caught up, but I am hoping I missed something to explain this, as if it can be
I also have to say that my entire family is staunch Rs (except for my bleeding heart liberal SIL) and nobody wants Trump to get the nom.
But they'll still vote for Trump if he ends up being the Republican nominee, right? To be perfectly frank, I don't think that's at all reassuring to any of us. I do not want my fellow Americans to be registered or interned because of their religious beliefs. The fact that Trump can even suggest such a thing and find support from some people is truly disturbing.
I've talked about other R candidates I didn't mind (Kasich being the one I like the most). I don't "like" any of them, not because I'm unwilling to see the other side, but because they're all pro-life/anti choice and anti-gay marriage, and those two issues are important to me.
I paged you largely because you're the R I can remember easily, and because I know you educate yourself on issues. I wasn't trying to be an ass, and I'm sorry if you took it that way.
I was genuinely curious how moderate R's felt. I DO know trump supporters who seem to not care he's an asshole and like his tax plan. For me, I can't overlook him being an asshole, but clearly many do.
Anyways thanks for coming to answer. I wish we had more R's on the board.

I thought I'd heard some rumblings about finding a way to keep Trump from getting the party nod at the convention. That may have been some talk radio speculation because I can't remember where I heard it.

I would be annoyed. Not because I want Trump to be the nom (lol NOPE) but because this is what the Republican Party has unleashed, and suddenly now they want to put a stop to these shenanigans in a possibly shady way ("possibly" because I honestly don't know if they could do such a thing ethically). Nope, you reap what you sow, GOP.
And I'm catching up to the last four pages after a two-hour drive home from work. I will blame Trump for that.

I think it is probably misplaced this evening, though, in light of shit that's been said in here.
If there is someone specific with whom you have a bone to pick, have it out. Otherwise, I don't know why you're "y'alling" the participants in this thread. No one is Hitlering up in here.

LOL. Okay. I really don't give a shit anymore. Very few people are interested in POVs that aren't from the left. Hence the reason that @ladydisdain, IIOY, origami, et.all. don't post much anymore. I used to get really riled up about it. Now, I just don't post. Except I was specifically asked. And there are numerous people here who think all R candidates are all the same, as is their prerogative as well. Hell, even in this thread, this was said. And the devil comments were TIC. Because I really.don't.care. anymore. I'm tired. I'm tired of the "airing of grievences." No one cares. This board is the way it is, and people can take it or leave it. I choose to stick around for mostly the non-political stuff. And, yeah, I'm a sarcastic bitch. So when specifically asked to participate in a political thread, that's gonna come out. It stopped being personal a long time ago. I have no fucks left to give. Now, I'm just having fun.
I mean, wouldn't that really really piss people off? Here they voted from the cast of bumbling fools, and their votes would literally be tossed out the window? Talk about wasting a vote...

Seriously, my whole post was not intended to be some "smackdown" or whatever. I mean, Pol Pot and Dickinson Cheney? That shit is funny.
This board isn't what it used to be. And it's fine. Shit changes. But I'm allowed to be a little eyerolly that we get paged in threads like this. Because it's kind of implied that all we're good for is disputing the ultimate crazy.
Take it or leave it. I am truly done getting pissed off.

The fact that KateAggie is being called ridiculous, in spite of her being summoned, makes it evident that non-liberal perspectives on this board aren't missed.
The fact that she is reconciled to that, yet offered her asked-for opinion anyway, gets a big "good for you" from me.
The fact that exactly one poster in this thread has observed why no Rs post anymore is... telling.
The board is left. We (the old non-lib regulars) all get it. And I use "we" because I also have been one who is only summoned/tagged to get my non-left opinion when it's desired. (Which has been what is is, but I finally decided I didn't care to be a consultant when any other non-left political opinion I might offer spontaneously will either meet opinions which stereotype all non-liberals as idiots/racists/extremists or will be met with anything from one-liner snark to WsOT with chest-bumping included). I, like Katie, usually just engage with the non-political threads because non-liberal ideas aren't welcome on here 99% of the time. Props to Tef for sticking it out.
That's the board you want. You've got it. The non-libs have other places we can and do engage, and amazingly we even discuss with other liberals and have mind-broadening conversations. I miss when this board used to roll that way, and now it's about paging a conservative or even an indie to get some outside perspective. But now that this is what the board is, I laugh at the surprise over tillie being a lone representative of the GOP and lo-and-behold, she might vote for Trump.
Back to giving no fucks.
Off to the Festivus thread where I get to air out my hatred of the term #notextremists.
I thought I'd heard some rumblings about finding a way to keep Trump from getting the party nod at the convention. That may have been some talk radio speculation because I can't remember where I heard it.

So a friend of mine is dating a former Republican staffer. When I met him, we naturally talked politics. He wants Rubio but is seriously concerned about Trump becoming the nominee and I DESERVE A COOKIE because I didn't mention that his popularity is the culmination of years of dog whistle politics (hi, ESF!).
The fact that exactly one poster in this thread has observed why no Rs post anymore is... telling.
It's noticeable, and probably is to most other people (or at least should be). But we've harped on the conservatives leaving before and maybe people just don't care to keep bringing it up anymore. No amount of "We need to hear more from the conservatives!!!" will bring you guys back, so why waste our breath? Not to mention, I get why the conservatives probably roll their eyes when they hear that and why they feel like their opinions only matter when consulted the way they were in this thread. Hell, I roll my eyes when people say they want to hear more from the Rs here because it doesn't seem genuine and I'd rather R posters just post instead of being summoned.
But anyway, I do lament the fact that it's clear (and has been for quite some time) that the conservatives have mostly left, and apparently have found another home. It sucks. I don't like one-sidedness. But whatever, this is just another useless post (my post, not yours) during our annual(?) grievances about how the board has changed.
I think it is probably misplaced this evening, though, in light of shit that's been said in here.

Look, I said it was stupid to page you to do circus tricks in here, and a bunch of people agreed.
I did not read your previous post as TIC, especially when you brought up people who don't feel like posting here at present as evidence of the board's suckiness.
The board is angry. They are angry because they routinely hear terrible things said about themselves, about women, about people of color, about religion, on a national and very public stage. And people here don't understand why other folks would encourage and support that ideology. So they are angry. I don't know what to say beyond that.
@koko, I was being sarcastic. As I often am. I don't know how to make that any clearer.
Since I've realized that the majority on the board don't really want to hear our POV, it's actually a lot easier to hang out here. I mean that with no martyrdom or pleading for change. It's not going to change. So I roll with it. The "3 times a year" was a joke on the paging of Cons that very occasionally happens. It's no secret that many think there are no real differences between the R candidates. Kind of like I think there's really no difference between any established politician of either party. It's not an insult to point that out. I didn't name names because it's not a call out. I thought by jokingly using non-biblical examples for.our atheist friends that was pretty clear. And "Hitler" is a frequent, frequent joke on this board. Why would it be taken seriously now?
