I read something (a tweet maybe?) where someone said they were at the show and got to the "and I'm the damn fool that shot him" line and she said the woman next to her gasped in shock. LOL
Jesus Christ, does no one remember the Got Milk campaign of yore?
AARON BURR. AARON BURR! SPIT OUT YOUR PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICH AND WIN THE MONEY, GODDAMMIT. MILK HAS LET YOU DOWN!
No, no "we" don't. I know who Aaron Burr is, but never heard of this milk commercial. Was it on cable? Off to google.

The White House performance was amazing, but I also loved watching POTUS and FLOTUS bopping their head along and dancing in their seats.
Love.
It's coming to Chicago and I am hoping that my Broadway in Chicago Club membership gets me access to the pre-sale for individual tickets. I'm also trying to convince my H that we need to just buy a subscription because we will get to see five shows (including Hamilton) for the price of probably two Hamilton tickets if we have to do resale.

Dear people who haven't heard of Hamilton: How is that? This thing has been EVERYWHERE. They were at the White House just a few weeks ago -- and someone posted about it here. They did a routine at the Oscars. Lin-Manuel has done interviews with everybody everywhere -- TV, radio, podcasts. People have been talking about the sold out tickets since last winter.
I don't watch TV, hate Awards shows (so didn't see the act on the Grammys), and work from home. I listen to music during the day, but I stream it through my Echo. I get my news online and the only movie I've seen in the theater (or even at home) in maybe two years was Star Wars.
Pretty much when it comes to pop culture, I live in a hole.

FI informed me that before the musical, the only thing he knew about Hamilton was based on that commercial.

1. I am in BFE. There is no way this play will ever be here.

I was in NY In mid-February and didn't hear or see anything about it. About a week or two later, my Facebook feed started blowing up about it. Then on the day of the Oscars (I didn't watch), I had a phone call with a friend who explained what it was. Did something happen in February before the Oscars that caused it to catch fire?
I hate musicals. Is this the kind if musical that only people who like musicals will like, or does it appeal to us musical-hating people?
I think you'd like it. History, drama, intrigue.
I usually need to see a musical to get into it, and I love musicals. Not with this one. I pulled up the soundtrack for the first time one day to run in the background as I did stuff. By the 3rd song I quit whatever I was doing and sat down to just listen.

Alllll of this, except I don't know what Echo is and the last movie I saw in the theaters was Black Swan.
I'm both a history buff and a musical theatre nerd. Miranda takes some dramatic leeway to help the show flow better (Angelica was already married in 1780, the final straw for the duel was not the election of 1800, but the NY gubernatorial election on 1804), but overall it's pretty true to history. Ron Chernow was an advisor for the show. Now THAT GUY knows his Hamilton.
I'm also partial to Hamilton because he was our nation's first treasury secretary.
Thanks to those that posted where I can listen to it. I've been wondering. There's no way I'll be able to ever see it on stage.
Once you inevitably fall down the rabbit hole and Hamilton becomes your new life, youtube the ham4ham videos. It's a good way to get to see all of the performers. They're phenomenal.
Also if you get as deep as I have fallen, you can read the lyrics here and they're all annotated. It's incredible what Lin-Manuel did, truly. The notes that he made himself are in green and it's so cool to read his thoughts behind it all.
I'm now reading this thread from someone like heyjude 's perspective and no wonder people hate it on principle without seeing it. lol
ETA: To be clear, I agree with you that it is everything.
The second half of the pop culture happy hour episode on Hamilton is basically entirely about this point. Lol. "Isn't it sad for all the people who can't watch? Do you think the obsession is a little over kill?"

I was on a six hour flight this weekend....basically back to back full album listenings. My in seat lipsync skills are amazing. I am shocked there has not been a full on thread about this yet.
It's fucking amazing is what it is. Luckily I got my kids into it so they sing it loudly with me everywhere.

We were at a baby shower last month and my 5 year old lifted up her glass and said 'Raise a glass to freedom!' I listen to some of the songs with her and she loves them!
It'll be in San Francisco and LA in 2017 and my husband and I purchased season tickets for our anniversary just so that we could see it. I'm glad the lineup for this coming up season has some great shows in it too.
Have not listened yet. I'm excited to do so. Please tell me that it is not overhyped and I won't be disappointed? Everyone hyped up Book of Mormon as basically the best thing ever created. I watched and was entertained, but not blown away. I probably would have been better discovering it on my own rather than having expectations going in.

The soundtrack is undeniably good. It's on Spotify for free which is how I have listened to it. I love some sings more then others but like them all.

Yes. This. Sometimes the beauty and joy of something is because you experienced it before everyone told you how you were supposed to feel about it.

I, too, thought Book of Mormon was overhyped. Hamilton is amazing. I'd say it's a new classic, like Rent or Les Miz were in their time.
“On any of those rare occasions when you get a glimpse of someone wondering whether Hamilton might not be the greatest thing that ever happened in 50,000 years of culture do you find yourself stunned, surprised, or fearful for the heretic’s safety?”
