I think I want to avoid listening to the soundtrack in hopes that one day, I can snag tickets. It helps to be local, I guess. But my friend got tickets in January for NEXT January, so it will be a while.
I am hoping we can snag tickets the way we did for Book of Mormon - through our credit card company. The BoM tickets we scored just happened to be for a show the night before my 30th birthday, which was perfect. And the show itself was fantastic no matter what anyone in this thread says...except for the part where a Rangers' Game 7 game happened that same night and we had to run through Times Square to our car with our eyes semi-closed and our ears closed to avoid seeing/hearing the score so we could watch off the DVR once we got home.
I am not into musicals overall but I will be a sheep in this case. I am sure the show is amazing.
I basically love him forever due to his wedding reception video.
I will have to get on this listening to Hamilton on Amazon Prime thing. I never got to see In the Heights and kind of wish I had. Is Lin-Manuel still performing in this?
Holy crap this is awesome. I'd never seen it before
The guy who came in behind LMM's dad is serving such strong Mr. Bean face realness!

For everyone that is waiting to listen to the soundtrack, I actually think listening to it before seeing the show it best. There are so many little things that I missed on the first couple of listens and I think you'd want to know all of that nuance before actually seeing it.
I have the CD in the car (DS1 asks to listen all the time!) and then I stream it when I'm home from Amazon Prime. I'm totally and completely obsessed. H thinks I'm crazy, but I don't care. It feels so much like when Rent first came out. It has just totally changed the rules of theater and I'm so excited about it. My very white, almost 70 year old mother is also becoming obsessed with the soundtrack, so it's cool to see multi-generational appeal.
Also, I know we're supposed to hate him because he's the "villian" in the story, but hot damn, I love Leslie Odom, Jr. so much! He is hot and his voice just puts it completely over the edge for me.
Thanks to those that posted where I can listen to it. I've been wondering. There's no way I'll be able to ever see it on stage.
Once you inevitably fall down the rabbit hole and Hamilton becomes your new life, youtube the ham4ham videos. It's a good way to get to see all of the performers. They're phenomenal.
Also if you get as deep as I have fallen, you can read the lyrics here and they're all annotated. It's incredible what Lin-Manuel did, truly. The notes that he made himself are in green and it's so cool to read his thoughts behind it all.
I framed two Hamilton valentines on my photo wall. 3 year old DD has me read them to her and walks around the house singing, "you walked in and my heart went boom!" And "my dearest, with a comma after dearest". It's super cute. She is also really concerned about why he is not throwing away his shot.
I wouldn't worry about getting spoiled by the Broadway cast recording. Even if you're lucky enough to see it on Broadway, chances are there will be some understudies. Like I saw it without LMM (he doesn't do Sunday matinees), but his understudy was fire. Philip and Peggy were also absent, but their replacements were also really good. I figure that anyone who steps on the stage will be completely vetted and ready to go. I can't wait to see it in LA.
Oh and the musical is SO lyrically intense that I'd recommend not only listening to it all the way through at least once, but also reading the libretto.
Last night, I went to see In the Heights, which is written by the same guy. OMG! It was amazing. I honestly was crying at parts and laughing and loving the music and the dance. It was brilliant! I totally want to see Hamilton now.
The dorky part of me is like, okay, now I need to read more about Alexander Hamilton and his life. I haven't really studied or learned about that time period since high school.
The Chernow book that Hamilton is based on is really good if a bit heavy.

Its a great read, but reallllllly long. I didn't end up finishing it

Since I discovered how much I love this musical, I have pretty much decided I am the world's foremost Alexander Hamilton scholar.
Shame alert ahead. SHAME ALERT:
I have asked to teach US History next year (I teach World History 1500-present) solely so I can teach about Alexander Hamilton. I mean, whatever that all of my coursework was in US History and I like it more, I would have stayed happily in World II forever IF NOT FOR THIS MUSICAL.
I keep imagining my PowerPoints:
Slide 1 - Everyone give it up for America's favorite fighting Frenchman! Slide 2 - LAFAYETTE!!!!
I'm generally in favor of using musicals to teach...everything. You also have 1776 and Assassins...probably more if I think about it. (Cabaret could work for both US and World history, more the latter, though, given its setting).

I remember watching 1776 in either my American Lit or American history class and being shocked at the idea that the founding fathers were....real people, LOL.
Here, @majorwife , I'll sum up my feelings for Hamilton.
Basically, it's the intersection of three of the things I most enjoy: history, singing, and hip hop. Also, the best entree songs are the Cabinet Battles. They will hook you.
I actually cried at the end the first time I listened to it all the way through. I have never in my life cried at a concert or over a band or anything like that. Then, at 32, I wept from LISTENING TO HAMILTON. I am not a "fandom" type of person. I guess I am now.
When I saw them perform "Alexander Hamilton" on the Grammys, I fucking cried. I cried like a 13-year-old at an NSYNC concert. I specifically bought the CBS app to stream the Grammys.
It's just everything.
Hamilton is the only thing I listen to in my car. It's the first CD I've purchased since, like, high school. Nothing warms my heart more than my 4 year old saying "your perfume smells like your daddy's got money" or all 4 of my kids rapping My Shot. I know better than to listen to the last 1/3 of the second disc before going into school, so I don't look like a giant, sobbing mess. I teach 8th grade history (which is SC & US), so we've listened to a few of the songs, and the kids are now really interested in John Laurens. I even have a Hamilton background on my promethean board. If you haven't yet, checkout the YouTube video My Spok (if you like Star Trek) and Batlexander Manilton (Batman). Basically, Hamilton has almost replaced my decades long Star Wars obsession, and there's even a connection there since Lin wrote the new Cantina song for TFA. I'm pretty sure I've become a Hamilton evangelical, asking people if they've heard the good news of Lin-Manuel Miranda.
I listened to half of it while driving back and forth to an event last night and i kept going this morning. I was loving Cabinet Battle #1 in the preschool pick up line.

1776 was my favorite movie for most of my life. DD is named after Abigail Adams. If Hamilton had come out sooner, she'd be named Elizabeth, no question.
I have been obsessed with genius.com all day. I know what I will be doing at work tomorrow. I thought I wanted to see this show bad before, but now OMG. I am going to be all levels of crazy obsessed. I just can't spend $500 on one ticket. OK lets be honest...I would, but I don't think I can find anyone to go with me at that price.
