The dorky part of me is like, okay, now I need to read more about Alexander Hamilton and his life. I haven't really studied or learned about that time period since high school.
He is legit one of my favorite founding fathers. Him and Benjamin Rush.
He was a short dude IRL, though, if his statue in Philly is to be believed...
I have been obsessed with genius.com all day. I know what I will be doing at work tomorrow. I thought I wanted to see this show bad before, but now OMG. I am going to be all levels of crazy obsessed. I just can't spend $500 on one ticket. OK lets be honest...I would, but I don't think I can find anyone to go with me at that price.
I mean, I doubt they'll come to Greenville, SC anytime soon (one can dream), but if they do, I fully intend on buying season tickets to our theater for $400 to make sure I get a Hamilton ticket. And then I'll sell the others that I don't want, lol.
put me (and DH) into the never heard it camp. I decided long ago that musicals are not my favorite form of entertainment (why sing about it when you can just say it?!). I listened to the soundtrack of Hamilton yesterday and today based on the rec here. OMG! So good! I hear their voices, little snippets of the songs, and cadence and tone when I'm not listening, I'm thinking about the story too. I love how despite it being a historic based piece, so many things are relevant to our political climate RIGHT NOW. It's a bit of a comfort how much politics have really stayed the same (the same small pool of repeat names, fears the other party is destroying things, infighting, incompetence, narcissism, etc.)

I have never agreed with Jefferson once / We have fought on like seventy-five diff’rent fronts / But when all is said and all is done Jefferson has beliefs. Burr has none.
Because of this thread, I listened to the entire soundtrack while doing yard work today. SO good!! And I feel like I got a lesson! I put it on for my 2.5 year old, and he was singing along to You'll Be Back
I exposed the menfolk in my house to Hamilton with mixed results. DS loves it and was singing along like crazy to the dueling countdowns and "The Room Where it Happens". I played one of the cabinet battles for DH and he asked if this was some kind of April Fool's prank because this NPR Raps business is just too damn weird for him.

My dh didn't like it either - except for King George's songs. He's not a huge rap or hip hop fan to begin with and he said he couldn't keep up with everything. Plus I think he was annoyed that he was struggling to catch all the words and I was driving, singing along, and doing some hand motions/dances (#work) lol. But I told him it was his first time listening to it and like my 409th time.
He didn't hate it so I'm hoping a miracle will happen and we'll somehow be able to see it in Chicago.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

Since I discovered how much I love this musical, I have pretty much decided I am the world's foremost Alexander Hamilton scholar.
Shame alert ahead. SHAME ALERT:
I have asked to teach US History next year (I teach World History 1500-present) solely so I can teach about Alexander Hamilton. I mean, whatever that all of my coursework was in US History and I like it more, I would have stayed happily in World II forever IF NOT FOR THIS MUSICAL.
I keep imagining my PowerPoints:
Slide 1 - Everyone give it up for America's favorite fighting Frenchman! Slide 2 - LAFAYETTE!!!!
Uh, I made my friend go to Lafayette Square during our exploration of New Orleans yesterday just so I could get this pic. LOL.
ETA: I was super bummed there wasn't a statue/likeness of him though. Womp womp.
My H is anti-musicals, but I told he might like this one cuz the music is actually good. I played him the grammy performance and we had a whole discussion about the story/Hamilton, and I *think* he may actually not hate the idea of going to see this!
Now to win the lottery so I can actually pay for the damn tickets.
I think my favorite character is Jefferson - he's so snarky! And my favourite line in the whole musical is "You know why? Because I'm the president". #Spoiler
(And I obviously judge his actual personal and political impact on slavery, but in the micro-world of this musical, he'll forever be a snarky asshole that I could imagine on project runway.)
Also, are any of you listening to the Presidential podcast? It was recommended to me here when my Hamilton craze got started at the end of last year and I wanted to learn more about the era. It's a little goofy, but as a non-american I'm learning a ton and I'll be the queen of Presidents at trivia this summer.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”

So we've spent a lot of time in the car this weekend and DS was demanding that we play Ten Duel Commandments every time we got in. I'm pretty sure we can add demands satisfaction from his classmates and challenges them to duels to the list of things that will be added to his preschool permanent record.

What podcast is this?
It's called the presidential podcast. It's by the Washington post. They dedicate an episode to each president in chronological order. It's really interesting.
