It's finally here! We have had a Hamilton-filled three days...... It's been a bit ridiculous. And I just dropped $205 in the popup shop. Whoops. Lol
Ha! On our trip, we ended up hitting Trinity church and the museum of american finance, so my trip ended up being a lot of Hamilton. It was fun though. Don't forget to order drinks and get your Hamilton souvenir cups at the show! Have fun! It was so amazing.

So.
Taran was amazing. He started off a little shaky but definitely got in to his groove after his nerves called down. He was hilarious. I am a bummed because they did an all-day bow and they was it. I was thinking he'd come out for a solo bow since it was his first show but they didn't do any individual recognition.
Mandy Gonzalez is amazing. That girl can belt it out.
And Michael was a wonderful Hamilton - I really enjoyed his performance. Burr was so, so good. As was everyone else. It's so hard to pick out individual performances because they were all great.
One Last Time was....... Ugh. I cried. It's too relevant to our current state of affairs. Battle of Yorktown was also brilliant.

Ok...so I just started listening to the soundtrack, and I am not wading through all 109 pages of this thread to see if this has been discussed - so, if you all don't want to talk about it, thats ok, lol.
George Washington is the only person I love more now than prior to listening to the soundtrack. Hamilton sounds like he was kind of a turd - and the affair stuff just cements by current feeling that no man should be in an office of power because apparently, all it takes is for a woman to spread her legs and all sense goes out the window.
Sorry for being a downer. I do love the music, and I am so excited to see it in LA this year...but I am not sure it has had the intended effect on me - Eliza and Angelica and Washington are the coolest people in the story.

If you need more love affair material for Washington, get his biography by Chernow. I'm about 4/5 through right now and it's just as amazing as Hamilton's. I've learned so much and have so much more respect, love and admiration for him now than I did when I started, and I thought he was a pretty rad guy when I started.

You aren't wrong. LMM even says as much in the Hamilton's America behind the scenes show. Hamilton is fascinating because he is such an idiot/asshole considering how smart he actually was.

Oh, Angelica, Eliza, and Washington definitely are better people than Hamilton. Hamilton's kind of a tool. It's still a beautiful show, though, because the characters are flawed and real. Angelica is the most brilliant, Washington is noble, and Eliza's a Saint.
Hercules Mulligan was awesome IRL, too, and Laurens.
Hamilton was brilliant and talented and he threw away his chance to do even more great things because he was impulsive and self centered, no question. Lin doesn't want to hold him up as some wonderful guy. He has some admirable traits, but maaaany flaws and his mistakes hurt his wife, killed his son, and ultimately killed him, too.
You should watch the PBS documentary- soooooo good.
I'm glad that Lin meant for him to be flawed. I just felt like maybe I missed the point while listening to the final song with Eliza - I was like, Eliza, dude, YOU did a lot of awesome things, you should be telling your own story, not Hamilton's!
And gretchenindisguise, thanks for the rec - One Last Time is my favorite song, and I like to think that Washington was really that amazing, so maybe I should read some like, real literature to cement that in.

jigsy no I am almost certain LMM said somewhere that the final song being Eliza's was to make that point. She in life didn't see it but he wanted to show that SHE was even more amazing then Alexander in what she accomplished.

But...did you watch the documentary? Even Chris thought Washington wasn't that great. He owned slaves, he believed only smart, white, educated MEN should be able to participate in government.

Ok...so now I am supposed to REALLY love LMM.
I am starting to see why there is a 109 page thread about this, lol

I haven't watched the documentary. I should.
He was not a perfect man by any means, either before, during or after the war, and Chernow's biography doesn't hold him up as a perfect man. He goes into his history as a slave owner and how he treated them. And talks about the mistakes he made prior to, during and after the war, including his conciliatory opinions on slavery. He benefitted from them, full stop.

Is there anything Chappelle can't do? He's been a lifesaver for them! I think he's played almost every single role (except I think for A. Ham - correct me if I'm wrong on that)!
Glad Taran was awesome! I think this is such a good role for him. You really need a comedian like that to play the role!
Seriously, everyone in the cast is amazing. It's clear they have high standards for their casting!!!

I saw him post a few weeks ago that the first time he played Burr meant he had played every party he was "understudied" for. I think that includes Burr, Lafayette/Jefferson, Madison/Mulligan, Laurens/Philip... I think that's all of them, but damn!
WAIT did he play King George once, too? The internet says yes!

Yes, he did. The Hamilcast podcast did an interview with him a couple weeks ago (Episode 48) that was great. He talked at length about playing all of those different roles, the first time he almost went on for Burr and then when he did.
They also did a 2-part interview with Michael Luwoye (Episodes 50 & 51) that was great too.
