2 adults 1 toddler 1 dog : 2600 sq ft. It is too big for everyday use and not big enough for entertaining. If we move, I'll probably want to go bigger, as we regularly host 20-30 guests and it's super tight right now if, due to weather, the deck is off limits.
2 adults, 1 baby (16 months old), no pets 540 sq ft, which is a good size for us now, however, we are currently living abroad, so we didn't really bring our stuff with us. Long-term, I'd want a bigger place.
At one point we were 2 adults, a toddler, and a medium sized dog in 648 square feet.
Now we're 2 adults, a pre-schooler, a toddler, and a medium sized dog in 1500-ish square feet, which feels enormous after living in a small space for so long.
I think we have 2000+ with 2 kids, 2 adults and 2 cats. We previously lived in 1500 and that was pretty good to be honest. The largest issue was the layout not the SQFT. I know plenty of folks who live in 1000 sqft or less with 2 kids.

1400 sqft 2 adults, 3 kids, and a cat. It's all one level and has a great layout. But the kids are still little. It will not work when they are teens. We are looking for 3700 to 4000sqft right now.
around 1700 sf, 3 bed/2.5 bath, 1.75 story, garage with storage shelf above the door
Currently: 2 adults, 2 felines and a 10 gallon tank (with 5 swims and a whole bunch of pond snails)
In the past: 1) see above (with a different adult) 2) add another cat to above 3) 3 adults, 2 cats, fish tank 4) 4 adults, 2 cats, fish tank 5) 3 adults, 1 kid (elementary-middle school aged), 3 cats, fish tank 6) 3 adults, 1 kid (elementary-middle school aged), 2 cats, fish tank
7) 1 adult, 2 cats, fish tank
I'm listed the past occupancy because my house is fine with 2 adults and 1 kid or even 3 adults but it was tight with 4 adults. So while it would be okay for 2 kids when they were young, it would start getting very tight when they were teens. The biggest wish with my house is another living/play room. When it was me, my XH, MIL and step daughter over the summers, I didn't have a place to go to be by myself. I think it would be useful for a toy/play room when kids are young but only if you can swing it.
2 adults, 2 children and 1 cat in 2250 square feet. Plenty of room. We are planning to add a dog to the mix in the next 12 months and we'll still have more space than we need.
2 adults, 1 child, 3 cats, and at one point, a hamster and a gerbil. House is 1,400 sq ft, only about 1,000 - 1,100 is finished space. I'd like a bigger house; however, with a different floor plan, I think 1,100 is doable (we have an old 1950s rambler, the bedrooms/bathroom and living room are all crammed together, and my DD's room is not much bigger than a walk-in closet).

2 adults, 4 kids, 2 cats, and a guinea pig. We used to have a large dog (she passed ways a few months ago), and we plan to add another large dog to our family when we find the right fit.
