In bed. I woke up at 4am with period-like cramps. I shrugged it off and rolled over until I woke up again at 6am. I remember thinking, "Blah - period time" until I remembered I was pregnant.
I was scheduled for an induction the next night, so we went on one last date before having a baby. We walked all through a classic car show and then went to dinner. Fell asleep when we got home and woke up with back pain that I initially assumed was just from all the walking. Within an hour it was clear they were contractions and my water broke all over my kitchen floor at 3:30am.
No labor with D. He never dropped and so I had to schedule a RCS.
Water broke in bed at 11 pm. I had to get cervidil to start contractions. My mattress was saved thanks to a waterproof mattress protector, thank you extreme paranoia.
DD1 - At home, watching a really bad Matthew McConaughey movie. What I thought was Braxton Hicks got more regular and kind of painful, although I wasn't entirely sure it wasn't indigestion from too much Mexican food at dinner.
DD2 - At home, fast asleep. My water broke around 2 a.m. and woke me up. In retrospect, I am not sure how I ever doubted it was my water breaking, but at the time, I was afraid I'd just wet the bed.

Kid 1 - water broke at work, had to be induced 5 hours later Kid 2 - crampy contractions started while in bed, then water broke in bed 1.5 hours later. I had a lot of preterm contractions, but the real thing WAS recognizable!
At home, although they weren't super strong or close together. I ultimately went into "real" labor at my MILs house but we were there because they were only like 2 miles from the hospital. I labored there until contractions were closer together. They had to break my water at the hospital.

DS1 - induction in the hospital. ETA: water broke at 4 cm.
DS2 - labor started at 10pm with me feeling "something" every 15 or so minutes. Got to the hospital after 1 at 6cm, so the "somethings" were definitely contractions. I had never felt them in early labor since it took many hours of pitocin to get the party started with DS1. ETA: water had to be broken at 9 cm because my cervix was swelling and I lost a cm. He was born shortly after that.
1 - at home in bed; woke up at 5am with contractions
2 - started having irregular contractions at home on a Saturday morning; lasted throughout typical Saturday activities (bday party DS1 was invited to, park, etc.); eventually concluded it was real labor Sat night after dinner and went to the hospital in the wee hours on Sunday morning
3 - started having contractions at home early in the morning; went to an important all-day meeting for work and then my kids' science fair in the evening, timing contractions throughout the day; it was clear by the end of the day that I was in labor; went to the hospital at ~11pm and had a baby about an hour later
My water broke while walking the dog before work in gray yoga pants, I would not recommend it. I am fairly certain my neighbors thought I wet my pants.
O: Contractions slowly built over a day and half. Shit got real about 3 hours before he arrived. R: Water broke at 7am (in bed). Shit didn't get real until about 8:30pm that night (30 min before he arrived).
My water broke at home. But it was a slow leak so I didn't know. I thought I was just peeing on myself. So I went to Thanksgiving dinner at my mom's house anyways and pigged out on food. Then we went to the hospital just in case and yeah...baby was born a few hours later.
It was a Monday morning, and I heard a pop while I was peeing. Then I stood and felt a little gush of fluid. I called H to come home from work, and a few hours later we were at L&D. They confirmed it was amniotic fluid, but it was a very slow leak and I had no contractions. They sent me home until that night. When we got back, I was having only mild cramping, so they started pitocin to augment labor.
