You know, as much as I regret it when people deactivate rather than re-evaluating themselves, I regret it more when POC no longer feel welcome here.
Yeah this is where I am. I mean, if I make a terrible comment and can't re-evaluate my actions enough to eat crow and apologize and feel I must deactivate, well I really have no one but myself to blame.
I hate that nature and wandering are leaving over us white people being unable to agree on appropriate reactions. Imagine calling a poster retarded. You would get run off the board for that language. I'm sure many of us used the term growing up but at some point we learned better. Yet we feel kid gloves are necessary on matters of race?hcsnnx nssn s d x de x x xxnnnnnn. Nnf
Eta: sorry my phone was hijacked by tiny hands and my train of thought is gone now.

All right, I've caught up. Damn.
I'm sorry that this is still a problem. And I'm sorry to the people who are hurt by these attitudes over and over again, where even a place like this becomes a not safe space.

I also can't think of a single time when after Poster X is called out for making poor taste comments that said poster and her(his) supporters were ever ultimately considered in the right in GBCN lore.
I think just being called out would be enough to make you stop and think and realize you're just plain wrong.
@natariru I'm sorry. This place was better for having you here and it's a damn shame that we -I- didn't reciprocate. Sorry that we might lose more amazing people because our pride in not being labeled racist is more important than actually not being racist.

Well, maybe not considered "right" but people have pretty short memories.
"Where is token, she gave such good advice" "I know booby was an ass but at least she kept things interesting" "Were the things V said really THAT bad in the grand scheme"

Perfectly said. I'm just seeing all of this after a busy day and I'm both horrified and miffed. I can't even imagine how our POC posters feel that this shit keeps happening.

I keep thinking, wow, this new bex person is so on point. Then I remember that I know who you are!

I have to say, it's infuriating to see active posters who post all day damn just ghost on racial threads. Like we can see you still posting in other threads.

I would never had known if I hadn't seen the other thread. Its not out of the realm that this board would post kid pics for weeks in that thread

You are right and I am guilty of this. I've been distracted but there is no excuse. Ignoring it is just as bad and I am glad you posted this so I could check myself. You shouldn't have had to post this for me to realize this.
I don't understand how people still don't get it. So disappointing and rage worthy. Open your eyes and your ears. Look betond yourself and your experiences.

It's not just this thread, it's EVERY thread, that's what I'm talking about.

A valid point, I apologize for not speaking up more. I am reading, and absorbing. I'll do better.
LOL that people should treat racist comments with kid gloves. Uhhh no. That's how we treat posters with differing parenting opinions, not blatantly offensive and hurtful posts. I don't post much on GBCN these days but I used to be really active on CEP. When I offended someone I actually preferred that people would just call me out. I mean, it's embarassing but it works. A solid roast lets people know the level of vileness their words reached. If you tip toe around about it that gives people the impression their comment wasn't that bad. That doesn't help people understand why they were wrong. the pg 5 comment was terrible and deserved to be flayed. as does this nonsense about dealing gently with racism. It's the Internet, not high tea with the Queen. Telling the board not to flame racist comments is the same as saying we should treat racism as if it's a normal, unimportant differing of opinions, like FF vs BFing. That's wrong.

Actually, I think it is telling that people are more likely to be 'too harsh' in parenting threads, and nobody says boo. But then when it is race related, it's like, oh, can't we be nicer?

This board seems much less harsh to me than CEP (could be bc I'm on it less though) but yes, if you get more offended by BF vs FF comments than racist comments you need to examine yourself.
I'm not as frequent a poster as some. And I just finished reading most of this post. I'm also an introvert here and IRL - and I hesitate to post sometimes because I feel like a lot of others have said it better than I could - but I'll say it as well - those were disgusting, hurtful comments. And also, after not being there for @kirkette back when shit went down with Booby, I promised to speak up, so here I am (hugs).
Feel free to make a list of topics least likely to turn up an insensitive remark or micro-aggression. I mean, maybe it's stupid of me to simply walk out of my house since that's what seems to prompt remarks IRL.
ETA: TamiTaylor, this is the shit that comes up when you basically force people to check in and prove they're here. Wow, profound, huh?

Also to clarify, I didn't post my PSA so that more posters came into this thread (although I think more people should have read it); rather, it was just to prevent more "look at my cute kid!!" When the thread had moved so far beyond that.
I am one of the ones who have been too quiet on these threads, and it makes me complicit, so I am truly sorry. I am ordering the books @kirkette recommended and I will not be silent anymore.

This is me too. I never know what to say so I just don't say anything at all. I'm also not on much during the day or I read a few things but don't have much time to post. I need to remember that saying SOMETHING is better than nothing.
I'm sorry that you ladies have to deal with this crap. It's not acceptable at all.
